Avatar n tn Pneumonia is defined as an inflammatory condition of the lungs. It does not "get into the blood". The causative agent may be viral, bacterial or chemical. If it is viral some studies suggest several grams of vitamin C a day will be helpful. Otherwise, as allmymarbles suggested, if the etiology is viral treatment is supportive.
242516 tn?1368223905 When do I need antibiotics for a cold, as an adult? Never. Are you sick with a runny nose, sore throat, cough, possibly even goey green and brown stuff coming out? Well, you're not alone, you've got a cold like millions of other adults right now around the world. Colds are upper respiratory infections that are almost always caused by viruses in adults. They typically get better after a week to ten days.
Avatar m tn I consulted primary care doctor and he gave antibiotics. After 17 days, I gave urine and blood samples for further tests, results came back for chlamydia, gonnohria and hiv negative. Nurse told that glucose level is increased. Symptoms are getting worse, I still feel burning sensation and something is moving around my penis head. Yesterday, I also experienced severe lower back pain and very light sore testicle(left side only). Also, having mild headache throughout the day.
Avatar f tn I am 20 year old male, 4 days ago I had sex with with 30+- year old woman. The next day I noticed a small pus pouch on my left tonsil; l also had a minor pain in the neck region. I immediately went to a clinic to get tested for any STDs but the clinic was closed. I went to see the doctor yesterday and he prescribed me antibiotics, 10 day treatment ,3 times per day.
Avatar m tn You have to take certain types of antibiotics for parasites (anti-parasitic antibioitics). Some antibiotics that work on bacteria also work on parasites such as metronidazole. Some parasites can get into the brain or eyes. If it is from raw meat it may have been a tapeworm. A parasitic infection does make your Eosinophil count go up as well. If the antibiotic worked on the parasite as well then yes it would make the lymph nodes go down as the infection was being treated properly.
Avatar f tn I know viral infections are not contagious, but I'm pretty sure bacterial infections are.
Avatar f tn There are different things that can cause bronchitis but no - When it comes to respiratory illness- Youll hear viral and bacterial thrown around- Viral (flu, cold) vs Bacterial. They can present differently. The major difference is that an antibiotic will only cure a bacterial infections. Antibiotics are not prescribed for viral infections. Most likely you will receive an albuterol inhaler for wheezing and be told to rest :) If symptoms persist I would revisit your physician.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you describe really do not sound like an STD, bacterial or otherwise. The antibiotics you have taken would have prevented or cured all common typical STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis, syphilis, etc. As for viral STDs, what you describe is not suggestive of a viral STD. Indeed anxiety could be a major contributor to what you are experiencing.
Avatar f tn Without the ability to obtain a history from you and examine you, I can not comment on a formal diagnosis or treatment plan for your symptoms. However, I will try to provide you with some information regarding this matter. Meningitis can recur. Was the prior meningitis confirmed to be bacterial? Was a lumbar puncture (aka spinal tap) performed? There is a condition called Mollaret’s meningitis which is a recurrent viral meningitis.
Avatar m tn I found a symptom checker for you, and I put in all the symptoms you mentioned. There are several possible causes. I do not like antibiotics without good cause, but usually if I am that sick, my doctor thinks it's bacterial even when it's negative for strep, and starts antibiotics. It usually does turn around quite dramatically. You did not mention the color of any phlegm you have seen.
Avatar n tn I guess my question is, Should i tell him to take a culture to make sure it is bacterial. I am a little worried about taking antibiotics so frequently, but I am also scared of the infection spreading. My symptoms are sore tonsils, Low grade fever, around 99 to 100, chills. Looks like small white spots or patches forming and the tonsils seem irritated and swollen. sincerely, Paul, thanks guys for all your wonderful help.
Avatar f tn ER doctors do not prescribe antibiotics for the flu, which is viral. They are treating you for a possible bacterial infection, which HIV is NOT. It's possible the antibiotics are causing some negative side effects or they are not working against whatever possible bacterial infection you may have. If you do not feel better soon, or continue to feel worse and have a fever, I suggest you see your doctor for further testing, or return to the ER.
Avatar f tn I was wondering has anyone had similar situations? How long would it take for the antibiotics to work or is it too late? Does anyone know how pups get this and how long she could of had it in her system for? Praying soooo much she makes it for me and my 2 little children. Im hoping for a miricle. The vet has said thats what it will take to pull her out of this.
Avatar n tn Bacterial infections can be diagnosed with culture and sensitivity or alternatively, antibiotics can be given without culture and sensitivity, or while waiting for the culture and sensitivity. If the problem does not improve on the first antibiotic, another can be tried. Bacterial forms of mastitis can take up to one month or more to resolve. The viral infection will also resolve hopefully, if your goat has a good immune system and given supportive care. However, it is contagious.
457438 tn?1302068407 Has the dr. said whether it is bacterial or viral?? If it is bacterial then an antibiotic will work. If it is viral...talk to the doctor about supportive therapies while she heals. If it is bacterial then she might have reflux..report back and we can talk more.
Avatar n tn I think it's viral. I had excactly the same symptoms and I went to the Doctor because my throat was swelling, the doctor gave me antibiotics just incase it wasn't viral. Its very hard to pin point what it actually is so you could just go to the doctor and see what they say...
Avatar f tn Okay so I have had a yeast infection for a couple of weeks now. I did monistat for one day then I stoped. My boyfriend has really been wanting to eat me out but I have been telling him no because of the infection. I have recently jus been sick due to a virus and my doctor has given me antibiotics. Is it possible that it has made my infection go away? I. Haven't been itching or anything for awhile.
Avatar f tn s a lot of days for a sore throat. Sore throats can be viral or bacterial. A viral sore throat is such that the main thing you can do for it is home care. This includes gargling with salt water, drinking warm tea, extra fluids in general, extra rest and ibuprofen or Tylenol. But viral sore throats usually resolve on their own within 7 days, fyi. Bacterial sore throats require a trip to the doctor.

Avatar m tn 47 y/o male here... thinking of ordering antibiotics online for the purpose of preventing the spread of any bacterial infection I might acquire from receiving oral sex. Cipro (500mg, single dose immediately after the "event") and Zithromax are my first considerations, but I'm having trouble finding "Z" in a single 1g (single dose treatment)... only 500mg 1. Is antibiotic use, as a preventative measure, effective? 2.
Avatar m tn See an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Might not be an infection. Or could be a viral infection that antibiotics don't kill.
Avatar f tn And if it is not bacterial or viral, you should know! So, follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and information. (and I know this was all over the place and not that helpful, sorry!) Let us know how you are doing!
