Antibiotics for eye infections

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics for eye infections

Avatar f tn I am 35w and been having a throat infection for about 3 weeks. In addition to this I have ear pain an today I woke up with a pink eye, since I can't take any medicine I believe the infection is spreading. What should I do? I called my oB but they didn't pick up my call. I'm in so much pain.
228686 tn?1211558307 I'm putting this here for anyone who does a search on eye infections for their cats: Most eye infections occur suddenly, ulcerate quickly, and can lead to blindness eventually. This can happen over as little as two to three days. Kittens are especially susceptible to this. Especially strays, which tend to have kitty leukimia or kitty "aids".
Avatar n tn Please see an ophthalmologist. Often patients are treated with antibiotics, unnecessarily for things like dry eye syndrome or allergic conjuctivitis. You could easily have something like dry eye keratopathy. Suggest you see EyeMD Ophthalmologist right away to see what you actually have and in meantime stop eyewash (it has chemicals and detergents and will wash out your good lubricating tear film worsening your problem) and use TheraTears or Genteal drops every few hours and bedtime .
Avatar n tn i read on this site that was a sign that the infection was in my kidneys so i was worried but when i went to the doctor he just game me antibotics and i am cured only thing you need to be careful for is yeast infection as i am prone to get them with antibiotics so keep an eye on that one too.
Avatar n tn Is there a web site that may have info about taking Antibiotics while on Pegasys/Copegus? No one I've contacted seems to know. I have contracted a terrible sinus infection and first called Pegasys. They have no research data about antibiotics in combination with their tx. How bizarre is that? Yet, they told me my GI should be able to advise. I called them. They won't advise about any other problem not directly related to my liver. So...
Avatar f tn old and has had 2 severe eye infections. Doctor just give's her antibiotics and drops for 1 month and no contacts. What can I do for her?
Avatar f tn You'd think that inflammation coupled with a decomposing tampon would have prompted a round of antibiotics, but a lot of doctors are reluctant to dispense them for problems that can potentially clear on their own. You'll want to keep an eye out for a fever, severe pain for one. Continued discharge for another. If it keeps up for more than say three days and you notice any discomfort, go back.
Avatar m tn I won't participate in the poll because I don't have lyme. But I was taking antibiotics for mycoplasma infection (CFS) and that has helped me a great deal.... still have more zapping to do though. For some reason, antibiotic therapy in CFS patients is taking longer than sarcoidosis and autoimmune patients. We have multiple infections I guess.
Avatar f tn They will give you a course of antibiotics. For me I was given the pill. The dr will keep an eye on you. But honestly it is nothing to worry about as long as you finish your antibiotics.
Avatar n tn It may require treatment with oral antibiotics, topical creams and gels. He may need to be on these for long periods of time. It is not good to be on steroid containing drops and ointments for risk of side effects of cataracts and glaucoma. See an Eye MD that specializes in cornea/external dissease. Have him clean his eyelids daily with TheraTears SteriLid eyelid cleaner, available over the counter at major drug stores. He may need to be on an antiboitic drops for a while.

Avatar n tn He went to the ER and was admitted and told he has MRSA. He has no insurance, and they ran an iv with antibiotics for three days and sent him home. In the last year he's been admitted to the hospital three times. He is exhausted, he looks like he is dying. He is pale and on a good day his fever will only get to 102. He now has one on his head and it hurts to even put his head down on a pillow. He also has one beginning around his groind area and he's completely scared.
Avatar f tn A week ago, I got off a course of antibiotics (Augment) that I took for 14 days. It bothered me the entire time I took it. I gradually had bloating, distention of the stomach and tingling, numbness and a 'cold' sensation started later on. This hasn't gone away and has only improved about 30% since taking probiotics and eating a lot of fermented foods and coconut yogurt with live cultures. The Kevita probiotic drinks help the most.
523927 tn?1257022304 Dear Dr. Nicolson, Thanks for your time today. We really appreciate your insight and knowledge. A little long-winded on my questions here . . . I have been plagued my symptoms since the end of February 2008. I still feel that I haven't been provided any resolution from the doctors I have seen as to what is affecting my body. Without a specific timeline to offer, I'll kind of bulk together my history since February and then present the questions that most concern me at this moment.
Avatar n tn I believe I have been experiencing severe panic attacks/ anxiety as a result of a combination of antibiotics I was on for an UTI. I have stopped the antibiotics, abou 36 hours ago, and am wondering how long before they are out of my system? and when they are out, will the anxiety go away? My GP prescribed a mild anti-anxiety drug and it has helped but not completely.. My heart is pounding and anytime I think of leaving the house I get sick to my stomach...
374573 tn?1199673746 A few weeks ago I found this site and posted a question about Fibromyalgia and antibiotics. Nicole had recently been on antibiotics for a sinus infection and had 10 glorious days pain free. That after 12 months of pain unless taking strong (addictive) pain medications. She had a brief reprive last spring when being treated for pnemonia which she will also have a chest xray for on Monday as it seems she has it again.
1475202 tn?1388955435 I am concerned that these pills could damage my liver. Also seems like alot to put me on for a red eye lid. Do you see any problems with taking this? From what I have read the SMZ TMP antibiotic is often used in people with ascites who have a risk of bacterial infection. I have no swelling and infection so I'm thinking about not taking this pill. I have read that the Cephalexin is more geared to my infection since it's a skin infection. Would it be safe to take just the one pill?
101028 tn?1419606604 I'm going to keep looking for good links on it but here's a simple one to start that also has links after it for how to deal with MRSA infections in a home. They are contagious and special cleaning and laundering does need to be done.
Avatar n tn Well, there is an argument for the antibiotics. The viral infections cause the tissue to be inflamed and increases the susceptability to a bacterial infection. Bacterial infections are notorious for "piggybacking". I am not supporting or defending this line of reasoning, but it does exist, and the fact your physician prescribes antibiotics for a viral infection does not mean he/she is incompetent.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with dry eye, blepharitis, clogged glands in March. I was prescribed Retasis, which seems to be helping. I use warm compresses and wash with baby shampoo twice a day. However, I continue to have inflamed eyelids, I've lost most of my eyelashes and my eyes get infected constantly. I have been using zylet, and dioxcycline orally. My doctor insists I keep using restasis even though my eyes are constantly infected. I thought this was contraindicted.
Avatar n tn Chronic sinus infections that antibiotics do not clear up. If I find anything out I will let you know. Please do the same if you find anything out.
91778 tn?1252558770 I took antibiotics for UTIs on a regular basis, no one told me to stop the meds. I would question that suggestion.
554253 tn?1215356649 Well, she sent me home with the proper antibiotics for his nasal bacterial infection and told me that he had loads of nasty green growths up his nose, but she could not biopsy them because of his sever swelling. He struggled to breath. He snorted like a big and sounded horrible. There were some nights I was expecting to wake up and find him dead. Two weeks went buy and barley any chance.
Avatar f tn Reoccurring Skin infections Jun 02, 2008 10:33AM - 0 comments Tags: Skin infections, swollen eyes, red swollen bumps I have a friend who has recently moved into a new apartment with his girlfriend. For the last three months he has had reoccurring, sore red and inflamed bumps in different spots on his body. The first time it was a bump on his hand, which then became swollen. Next, it showed up in his eyes, leaving his eyes closed with crust.
Avatar m tn During the past 6 months I have significantly curtailed my drinking to only beer, and no more than a few beers a week. I take Lipitor, BP meds, and Ambien. For the last several months, I have been had the following symptoms: Daily sore throat ...
7983189 tn?1395979832 Just for the record, My CD57 went up from 20 something into the 40's after 5 months ABX. And I feel slightly better after 3 months of herxing. I was on simple herbals 6 months before ABX, so I dont know what my base line CD57 origionaly was.
Avatar f tn In the past couple of years I have had 5 sinus infections and 3 ear infections. I have had horrible ear-aches the past couple of years and recently in the past two months the pain has made me actually get sick a couple of times. No pain medicine makes the ear-ache go completely away. The past couple of weeks I have had severe pressure in my cheeks and nose. This may sound weird, but it felt like my nose was twitching. I have always had problems with blowing by nose.
Avatar n tn I remember reading a post a while back saying antibiotics were also bad for liver... Reason i ask is i had a toothace dentist prescribed antibiotics i told him make sure there liver friendly he said all antibiotics are.. then i got swimmers ear while vacationing and went to ear doc and she said same thing .Does anyone know of a site that discusses that i trid janis no luck Thanks ..
Avatar f tn The doctor diagnosed it as cellulitis. I was given oral antibiotics (if memory serves ezithromyacin) and was told if it did not go away within 5 days to return and it would have to be lanced. It did resolve and I thought nothing else of it. Two weeks later I woke up with a very sore feeling cheek also on the right side. Upon looking in the mirror I had a very large bump sticking out of my cheek. Nothing like acne, it was much larger. Perhaps the size of a marble.
147426 tn?1317269232 Over and over we here on the forum tell people to be checked for hidden infections when their symptoms worsen. Far and away the most common hidden infection is a UTI. It is VERY common for people with MS to have difficulties emptying their bladders completely. Urine that stays in the bladder without being voided is a set up for bacterial infections. These are almost always bacteria from the intestines. This is true for men and women BOTH!
