Antibiotics during labour

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics during labour

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Definitely take the antibiotics. Uti is something that needs antibiotics to cure and if it goes untreated then can develop into a kidney problem which in some cases can cause early labour. Much safer to take the meds. I've been on the same antibiotics twice during this pregnancy and am now 36+ weeks and baby is perfectly healthy.
8075190 tn?1401035475 I'm also GBS + and all that really means is that I will be given IV antibiotics during Labour tomatoes sure my baby doesn't become infected. Roughly half of all women have GBS and don't know because it doesn't cause any problems for us. It isn't picked up until pregnancy because there is never a reason to test for it until then. Please have the antibiotics as there is a chance your baby could contact GBS in the birth canal and in some rare cases babies have died as a result.
Avatar f tn Its only really necessary if they need to administer anything to you during labour eg fluids, pain meds, antibiotics etc
Avatar f tn This is the reason we are given IV antibiotics every four hours during labour, to give little one the best chances. If you get the IV then there will be no problems and baby will not contract it from you. Honestly, there is no need to stress out. And don't listen to other people's horror stories. THE will NOT put you into pre-term labour. It will also not make your waters break prematurely. It is always present inside your body with no adverse effects.
Avatar f tn 1st my waters went at 12 and then had I had my daughter 23 weeks and she obviously had an infection aswell she stayed inside me for 12 weeks witch is very rare.
Avatar f tn I tested positive in my last 2 pregnancies. Had the antibiotics during labour and both times my babies were completely fine. It's a fairly common thing and as long as you have the antibiotics you and bub should be fine too.
Avatar n tn I did. They gave me antibiotics during labor. My daughter was a little jaundice the 1st week but it cleared up and now she is a healthy 3 month old. Just make sure you go to the hospital early so they can start antibiotics early. It's really nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn I'm so concerned. Just reading what can happen to my baby is making me feel terrible :( I know its not that big of a deal as long as I'm given antibiotics during labour, but I can't help but feel a little uneasy about it. Anyone else have it/had it in a previous pregnancy? I need some positive stories!
389909 tn?1225996852 i had group b strep and received antibiotics in labour and had a healthy 8ib 4oz beautiful baby girl, hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Yes and I had IV antibiotics during labor and everything was fine. I have tested positive this pregnancy and will have antibiotics again.
Avatar f tn I've had it twice both my daughter's passed away I went into early labour because of me having group b strep it only affects some women and you only have it during your pregnancys its more likely gonna happen again with ny 4th baby I'm hoping it dont but positive thinking and dont worry if they give your baby antibiotics during and before labour starts you'll be fine.
Avatar f tn Every women has the bacteria it grows from but some women just over produce and thats why you are GBS positive. You just have an IV with antibiotics during labour, if your labour is too quick they give the antibiotics to your baby after born for a few days. I wasnt positive with my second and im now 27+2 with my 3rd.
234013 tn?1231110193 I did not have this during my first pregnancy. Dr is not concerned. Just will need antibiotics during delivery. Wondering if anyone else has tested postive for this???
Avatar f tn / i did the same thing, theres a slim chance it can be passed to baby with antibiotics during labour..but i think about it everyday if something was to happen:/ i would like to know too!
641492 tn?1247955514 I am positive also and my doc said i will have antibiotics when i get to the hosp and another dose during labour and then oral antibiotics for 1 week after bub is born. It shouldn't make your stay longer. Getting close!
Avatar n tn It's one of those things that we are carriers for and the strep can activate at any time and become an active infection. Usually they give you IV antibiotics during labour, I haven't heard of treating it beforehand. It's only a big deal if your baby gets it during birth. If you're on the antibiotics everything should be just fine. I was gbs positive with my first and got on IV meds about 2.5 hours after my water broke and she was just fine.
Avatar f tn There is only a risk when water breaks I had group b strep when I was pregnant with my little man I had antibiotics during labour and he was fine
Avatar f tn t even notice your getting antibiotics during labor. Friend had positive test, she had a foul smelling odor, green like discharge, she did have to be induced only because baby would come on her own. And fear of baby getting too big.
Avatar n tn I tested positive during my 1st pregnancy, too. It's very common. IV antibiotics during labour are a precaution for your little one. Babies can get very sick in the first little while with complications from the Strep, so it's good to go for the antibiotics. The IV is no hassle at all. It all kind of just happens! Hope you have great doctors and midwives to help you through. They do an amazing job!
Avatar f tn so im 37 weeks and yesterday my ob told me i was positive for gbs infection and that i would need antibiotics in my iv once im in labour. but i have looked it up and said that it can cause death to the baby if i dont get treated the right way. has anyone ever had this?? and how can i get rid of it before labour???im very scared for my unborn child.
Avatar f tn last week at 36 weeks my doctor gave me the GSB test for that strepped infection in the vagina/colon. Well it came out positive so I have to take antibiotics when i deliver so the baby won't be affected. My doctor said there is nothing to worry about since im getting antibiotics during birth but i looked up GSB and did research and it's pretty serious for the baby. So im really worried about my baby but i'm only gonna stay positive. I know everything will be fine.
427258 tn?1266445242 I have the GBS too. Didn't you mention that you had had this in your last pregnancy as well. I may be getting mixed up but I thought it was you who had mentioned that when I had posted... I hear that there is a threat to baby but really only if the antibiotics are not given. If your water breaks you are supposed to get to the hospital right away and get the antibiotics asap. You are also supposed to be given the antibiotics a few hours prior to delivery as well..
Avatar f tn I have strep B and will be having a vaginal birth.
Avatar f tn I was positive with one pregnancy, negative with another. They will hook you up to antibiotics during your labor since you are positive. Don't wait till you're pushing to go in because the antibiotics takes like two or so hours to get into your system.
Avatar f tn You nd baby will be fine youll just get antibiotics during labor
7479298 tn?1391160752 I have just been told I have group b strep. Really upset me I'm 37 weeks pregnant. Midwife said I need a course if anti biotics now and my doctor said I don't need them. But I have still got to have iv antibiotics during Labour. Any1 else in this situation.
Avatar f tn t spell it) The infections sent me into labour at 22weeks thankfully drugs to stop labour worked. Again at 25weeks I went into labour they stopped it...
