Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics during childbirth

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Your baby will be fine, it's only really a concern during the birthing process. It's a normal bacteria that is in your body at all times, and sometimes it gets a "colonized" or there is more than the normal amount. It's harmless, except to an infant, but only during childbirth is there a risk of infection for them. You can also be positive at one point and negative later- the antibiotics don't really "cure" it but they do go back into balance on their own.
Avatar f tn MY GRANDMOTHER ALWAYS SAID THAT 84 YRS AGO DURING CHILDBIRTH AT HOME BY A MIDWIFE SHE SCREAMED SO MUCH SHE GOT A TRIPLE GOITER FROM SCREAMING-IS THAT POSSIBLE??
Avatar f tn The antibiotics you have been prescribed for you Strep throat will usually quickly and effectively treat the problem. There should be no likelihood that you would pass this on to the newborn baby through a throat infection, however take the necessary precautions of hand washing, etc.
Avatar f tn Trichomonas is an std. Because std's can cause complications for infants when they get it during childbirth, it is routine to check for std's during pregnancy. So, having it before the kids? Highly doubt it. It would have been detected during at least one of your pregnancies. And it takes different antibiotics to cure or treat different std's.
Avatar f tn I would say childbirth classes are extremely informative and helpful when it comes to determining the procedures done at your hospitals, health, what to expect during labor, how to breathe, etc etc. I highly recommend first time moms taking childbirth classes. HOWEVER... When it came to actually putting that information to use at the hospital during labor, it was completely pointless for me and my baby. Unexpected things come up and sometimes no class can ever prepare you for it.
2013578 tn?1341812012 If you have a cold no. A cold is a viral infection and cannot be treated with antibiotics. It won't do anything. Usually they will just monitor you and make sure your fever is kept at bay.
Avatar f tn re consenting to! Informed consent during childbirth is a joke. They make toy read and sign this paper about epidurals while you're in the middle of this intense pain... how are you supposed to know what you're signing unless you know beforehand?
Avatar n tn My physician put me on three differenty types of antibiotics, retin A and nothing has even come close to clearing it up. What would make somone all of the sudden develop such bad skin if they never had bad skin before. I try everything, from washing my face, using acne creams, acne washes, etc, but nothing stops the oil or the pimples. Help.
2168213 tn?1357062544 My good friend who just gave birth to a healthy baby boy told me about the book Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. I bought it and was so thankful for all the comforting words and was able to read a lot of testimonies from women from TTC to giving birth, ups and downs and a lot. It talks about speaking to your body and having that authority to take over your body and turn away from fear and anxiety during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn How safe are antibiotics during the first trimester? I was prescribed azithromycin before i new i was pregnant.. I have a throat infection and i am afraid to take the meds.. But i wa reading that if the infection isnt cleared it can go to the baby..
Avatar f tn Definitely take the antibiotics. Uti is something that needs antibiotics to cure and if it goes untreated then can develop into a kidney problem which in some cases can cause early labour. Much safer to take the meds. I've been on the same antibiotics twice during this pregnancy and am now 36+ weeks and baby is perfectly healthy.

1981214 tn?1327949140 Id also get a second opinion from another doctor, given that it didnt happen prior to childbirth. there are some complications that may cause this symptom. Get checked out by a different doctor is my best advice.
Avatar f tn t worry, it sounds like an infection of some kind, which can easily be treated with either an antifungal or antibiotics. Speak to your doctor, it's not uncommon after childbirth, so don't be worry.

454221 tn?1259445739 It is very rare for women to die during childbirth and if women do die during childbirth it is usually not even birth-related (maybe she got into a car accident, etc.) You may want to talk to your doctor about this fear because it can turn into depression. My mom-in-law hemorraged with her third baby, who is now my husband, and ended up having a fourth child after him (so she had 4 children total). She is still alive to see her grandchildren be born!
1840402 tn?1355432565 Left untreated it can travel to the kidneys and cause a kidney infection that can be dangerous to both you and your child. Amoxicillin is one of the most widely prescribed antibiotics during pregnancy and has not been shown to cause any harm to a human fetus. Take the medication to clear up the infection, the last thing you want is for it to get worse.
Avatar n tn Your doctor is aware of your pregnancy and some antibiotics are perfectly safe during pregnancy. Best to work with your doctor and follow their guidance. Wishing you a quick recovery and easy rest of your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn If it ends in cillin.... its a no no for me so I have had to have some pretty funky antibiotics during all 3 of my pregnancies. .
