Avatar n tn s opinion, vancomycin must affect the auditory system in a manner that results in augmentation of the usual ototoxicity of aminoglycoside antibiotics. This postulated effect may manifest as a temporary hearing loss in humans. More studies are needed, however, before a definitive conclusion can be made. 280418 tn?1306325910 ) Yep, I am on new meds and not feeling well at all! I just worry about ototoxicity. Many antibiotics are ototoxic and I don't want to lose any, and I mean any hearing due to meds. That only equals tinnitus for the rest of your life, which I would hate. My tinnitus is worse when I'm sick, it definitely increases with stress but is a new problem since I started taking doxycylcline. Who knows, like you said, what really caused it to start.
Avatar f tn Certain medications can cause tinnitus (noise in the ears). Medications that have adverse effects on the inner ear are called ototoxic (ototoxicity). However, given the time lag, this seems less likely in your case. You should be seen by a doctor, preferably an ENT, and get a hearing test to rule out any hearing loss or other problems with your ears. Good luck! Nancy T.
18663 tn?1198171815 Hi, I am taking several drugs for a heart condition (Coumadin, Amiodorone, Pravastatin, Carvedilol, Terazosin, Diovan, Aspirin). Is it possible that heart drugs can cause hearing loss? If so - is the hearing loss permanent? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Some medications and environmental chemicals such as lead, mercury or tin can cause ototoxicity which may result in damage to the inner ear or the 8th cranial nerve and cause vertigo. The damage can be permanent or temporary. It would be best to talk with your company or safety committee head about the presence of occupational hazards (such as chemicals) in your workplace to eliminate this cause.
170935 tn?1225371076 for the past week i have been having a tightness in my chest i went to my doc straight away and he listened to my chest and said it was just my asthma. he refused to give me any antibiotics or medication. when i use my inhaler my asthma subsides but the tightness comes back after an hour or 2. my question is, is it possible for asthma to come back suddenly like this? is chest tightness a symtom of asthma?
Avatar f tn m wondering if anyone has any insight or opinion as to whether taking a low dosage of Vicodin over a long period of time could cause Tinnitus to worsen or if Tinnitus is caused more so by a large intake of Vicodin at once? I have never taken more than one 500mg pill in any one day during that time. Also, is Vicodin induced Tinnitus something that can be reversed if the person stops taking this medication? Would greatly appreciate any feedback. Have a great new year's everyone.
Avatar f tn I am now currently 5 days late and took a pregnancy test two days ago and it was negative. Does anyone know if antibiotics cause mp and how much longer should I wait to take a test?
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Indeed, some antibiotics including sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim and levofloxacin may cause headache as one of the side effects. This usually goes away after the course of the treatment. If it persists, inform your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
317787 tn?1473358451 Some antibiotics can cause allergic reactions while others can cause direct damage to their liver, which can be quite severe in patients with chronic liver disease. For patients with a pre-existing liver disorder, the detoxification function of the liver is already compromised and substances that would normally be metabolized could actually accumulate in the liver or in the bloodstream.
1840402 tn?1355432565 Uti's can cause cramping and contractions as it irritates the uterus. The antibiotics are necessary! I'm sorry about the tonsils, my husband went through that at 33 and it was miserable. I can't imagine it during pregnancy, I sure hope you feel better. Merry Christmas, and God bless.

Avatar m tn Hello, i am now concerned, I was perscribed penicillin for strep throat on monday (the day of my urine test) and have been taking it all week, (i got another urine test on Thursday) they both came out negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia after unprotected vaginal sex a week ago i am now concerned because i have read on here that taking an antibiotic can mask the test and cause false negatives?? is this true?? thanks!
Avatar f tn It is on the safe list from my obgyn. I also researched it. Its fine in pregnancy. I'm just worried about a severe reaction that will cause bigger problems for me and my baby - throat swelling, etc.things that are highly unlikely. That's why my husband is irritated.
Avatar f tn Definitely take the antibiotics. Uti is something that needs antibiotics to cure and if it goes untreated then can develop into a kidney problem which in some cases can cause early labour. Much safer to take the meds. I've been on the same antibiotics twice during this pregnancy and am now 36+ weeks and baby is perfectly healthy.
Avatar f tn I too have lived with a panic disorder for well over 20 years now. Has your physician checked your Cortisol levels recently? Cortisol is released during an attack of panic, so realistically, it should be elevated above normal limits. It would be interesting to know what your levels were during this said episode. The symptoms of panic don't always follow the same pattern that we become familiar with and everything you describe about your experience in the car, screams of panic.
Avatar n tn Mixing with water can cause him getting a subdosage, also.
Avatar n tn can antibiotics for prostatitis be given in an intramuscular injestion insted of taking them oraly and would this cut down on side effects like stomach upset please someone answer this question for me it seems difficult to get questions answered here
Avatar f tn Stomach cramps with antibiotics are not uncommon (the antibiotics make the muscles of the intestine move more quickly, and can cause loose stool as well). However, fever and itching can be a sign of an allergy. It is possible to develop an allergy at any time in your life, even to an antibiotic you have taken before. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn People also are very commonly allergic to certain antibiotics. Antibiotics also kill off the beneficial organisms in our intestinal tract that are a very large part of our mental health system. It's probably the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Past history of urinary tract infections which were treated with antibiotics. Also have had 2 cases of strep also treated with antibiotics. Obgyn also suspected bacterial vaginosis so was treated for that. This all happened within last 5 years. Have not felt normal since!
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with tinnitus as a result of Depekote ototoxicity two years ago. I currently suffer from daily headaches and anxiety. Emerging research suggests that anticonvulsants, SSRIs and other anti-depressants show some promise in the reduction of chronic headaches. Due to my desire to avoid exaserbating either permenently or temporarily my chronic tinnitus I a fearful of the anti-convulsant and SSRI drug classes.
Avatar m tn Also, I did read in the research literature that carvedlilol has been associated with ototoxicity and that a minor side effect is swallowing difficulty. I would guess these are not common though..
Avatar f tn also where did you find this info about the MAP bacteria being the cause? EVERYWHERE I go one the internet states there is no known cause. There are suspitions of several different things but nothing says a fore sure cause.
Avatar m tn I had no signs or symptoms. 2 weeks after this I was diagnosed with Prostatitis and put on antibiotics (Levofloxacin). 3 weeks after encounter I tested negative for STD's. It is now 7 weeks after encounter and I am still battling the prostatitis. I guess I am having a hard time believing that I developed Prostatitis right after my sexual encounter and it has nothing to do with an STD. Would the fact I am on antibiotics at the time of my STD testing have produced a false negative?
