antibiotics

974371 tn?1424653129 I've used both (I'm on daily probiotics and just recently was on antibiotics for pneumonia) and didn't really have many issues. The antibiotics gave me worse diarrhea but it clears up after time - nothing in regards to adverse effects being used together. In reality anything can have an adverse affect with any medication. Even just taking OTC pain meds. All things are given on a risk/benefits scale, and he seems to think this one will work best for you.
Avatar m tn hi, sorry this is so long! i've had abdominal pain to the point of fainting and crying for about 6 years (i'm an otherwise perfectly healthy 21 year old now). at first i was told it was just being a woman, but when i was 19 it got to the point where i was unable to walk sometimes. eventually i was forced to go to the doctor who ordered some blood tests and an x-ray. they were normal, except for coeliac.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I am new here and would like some feedback from you guys. I've been experiencing some pretty intense stomach cramps or spasms that only last up to few minutes but they are so intense that I have to go to the bathroom right away. Soon after I have BM, I tend to feel somewhat better immediately. I was constipated and then the same day had diarrhea. I was recently on antibiotics for dental work and my GP thought it was c.diff.
Avatar m tn I am too scared to take them as they are known to cause severe colon inflammation as a side effect especially in ibs sufferers and can cause severe diarrea and bleeding and a worsening of ibs. Response from doctors was just take the pills. From past experience with mild antibiotics i have ended up in hospital with bad ibs flare up resulting. Have also been given a thrush cream. Please, can a thrush cream really help?
684508 tn?1234917191 A lot of this has been spoken about over the last few years, but there are still doctors who over-prescribe antibiotics and some patients that insist on taking antibiotics for viral infections. Thus, adding to the problems with antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. If you really do need the antibiotics, go ahead and use them, that's not what I'm talking about at all.
Avatar f tn My skin is a bit dry from the antibiotics as well as my taking lots of showers to relieve the feelings but I doubt this is the cause of the feelings. Lotion helps some, but only for about 10 minutes. Could this be anxiety? Could I have somehow convinced myself by way of a placebo like effect while taking the antibiotics, hence the symptoms went away? I talked with my doctor about what the antibiotics did, but she was at a loss.

Avatar m tn I highly recommend against antibiotics unless you have symptoms and they think the antibiotics will kill off the bacteria causing these symptoms. Antibiotics will kill off all of the good bacteria too.
Avatar m tn Firstly a quick question, can IBS cause my tongue to have a thick yellow coated gunk on it??
Avatar f tn My gastroenterology consultant that i orginially had has gone out of his way to try and find a diagnosis, in which at my last consultation with him he said i think it is severe IBS but i am not convinced. 572521 tn?1217226838 Okay, here's my opinion and it may not be a welcome one. First, get off the antibiotics. Period. I know you say they help, but you have no idea of the possible problems you could be causing by being on antibiotics - especially Cipro. It's on of the antibiotics that can cause a nasty little problem called C. diff which stands for Clostridium difficile - a bacterium that can do very real damage to your lower GI system if it gets out of hand.
Avatar n tn I don't believe this is cause for concern about Hypochondria. Don't give in to doubts or to anyone labeling you with this. If stress doesn't cause IBS, it definitely aggravates IBS! What you're describing sounds like IBS to me. If you've had every other test under the sun for GI problems and they all come back negative, that's when your doctors start telling you that this is IBS.
Avatar m tn A nephrologist would be good. But I think that is a separate issue. Although, know that antibiotics can cause an increase in the needs for bowel movement. When my son takes an antibiotic, it compounds the issue with his slow digestive track and bowel issues. The remedy for my son was given to us in the emergency room, a cup a day of grape juice. It keeps it all moving. AND, while he is severely constipated, you'd never know because he also goes regularly.
280234 tn?1532986249 The antibiotics are a good first line treatment, and definitely follow up with the liver enzymes. From what I could find, IBS could cause swollen lymph nodes, so if her IBS is flaring up, maybe that is the cause. I would think that they might want to do an abdominal ultrasound to see what is going on with her liver. Sometimes, with an acute infection, liver enzymes can be elevated. I would recommend your sister continue her follow up with the infectious disease doctor.
Avatar f tn t mean you have IBS, but it can also cause IBS. Antidepressants can also cause this, depending on the person, as can other medications. But other things can cause digestive problems as well. It does sound like you're getting loose stools as a result of anxiety. I've had the same problem, as I'm sure so have many people when they get nervous, but again, IBS is a more complicated situation that just having a nervous bowel.
1398693 tn?1343684738 Thank you for answering I was reading the Rome/Manning criteria for ibs and it says that if mucus is present in stool it's a symptom of ibs, and I rarely have mucus in my stool that’s why I was wondering.
Avatar m tn Have you been to a GI specialist about this troublesome issue?

Avatar f tn most kids find school difficult to a certain degree but it is something we all have to persue in order to recieve a good and proper eduaction ,for me if it were my child i would try and find the root cause of the anxiety and if it is ibs find a good gastro and find ways to control it ....i will just say here as well a lot of ibs symptoms are linked to celiac disease {gluten} and this can cause a lot of symptoms with anxiety as well due to the gi being irriated a lot ..

Avatar n tn ve experienced ID because of their IBS...Could IBS really cause involuntary defecation? I thought IBS was just cramping and having to go to the bathroom, nothing serious like ID.. I'm only wondering because I suspect that I might have IBS and right now my symptoms are really not there so I'm afraid of what could happen if they flared up again especially since I'm hoping to start working soon.

Avatar f tn My IBS was pretty much under control and then after a few rounds of antibiotics and doubling up on Culturelle to prevent diarrhea plus still being slightly hypothyroid I became extremely constipated. I could only have BMs that were tiny balls, some with mucous (IBS?). Took Colace and Miralax and ate more fiber rich foods (despite the fact that high fiber disagrees with my system) and drank more water. I even started to dribble olive oil on my food.
Avatar n tn When people take antibiotics it skews the normal/beneficial bacteria in your GI system and that can cause changes in bowel function. There are a number of good brands on the market that include PB8, Digestive Advantage-IBS (not only for IBS), OTC brand of VSL#3, FloraQ and others.
