Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics cause gastritis

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Antibiotics wipe out bad and good bacteria, and cipro in particular seems to cause more problems after a course. It's wise to always follow up antibiotics with probiotics to reestablish some of the good bacteria for a happy, healthy balance!
Avatar f tn Does the gastritis itself cause bloating, or high levels of acid which cause gastritis(Im trying to understand if what caused the gastritis is still there since I dont know what that is). Secondly, a few days after taking the Omeprazole I started having a feaver and acute diahrea. Ive been told that its not related but its been a few days now without change. Can Omeprazole cause this?
Avatar n tn I really think you have something more going on than simple gastritis - from whatever cause. In your case, I think a visit to a gastroenterologist would be a good start in getting to the bottom of your problem.
Avatar f tn Yes, any of these might cause back pain. Are you on antibiotics for the H pylori? What about meds for the other two? Gastritis might cause softer stools.
Avatar n tn Alcohol, NSAIDs, Helicobacter Pylori, Autoimmune Disorder. The only one that makes sense for my case is Helicobacter Pylori. (Unless Autoimmune Disorder is somehow related to food allergies.) Pylori is a bacteria that is resistant to stomach acid. Taking Prilosec would only make it even more hard to kill. Therefore, antibiotics would be necessary to kill the bacteria. (I don't even know WHY I am taking Prilosec. What is it supposed to accomplish?
1709162 tn?1314084832 H. pylori typically results in causing gastritis, so the antibiotics are going to hopefully remove the bacteria but will not cause the gastritis to immediately stop. Most people (and doctors) find they need to stay on a course of acid suppression meds for several months and follow a GERD-friendly diet in order to tamp things down. Talk to your doctor about follow-up care. He/she should also recommend follow-up testing to check on the status of the bacteria (gone or not gone).
270554 tn?1289511647 May I ask...have u had to be on antibiotics recently or b4 feeling like this?
Avatar f tn Can the gastritis cause this to happen and also can they determine if its gallbladder problems or gastritis by blood and urine test cause the symptoms are alike? I also have a lack of appetite. Never had this problem before just happened suddenly. How long will it take for this to go away, and when will i get my full appetite for food back?!
Avatar f tn Common pain relievers — such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox) — can cause both acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. Using these pain relievers regularly or taking too much of these drugs may reduce a key substance that helps preserve the protective lining of your stomach. Older age. Older adults have an increased risk of gastritis because the stomach lining tends to thin with age and because older adults are more likely to have H.
1307217 tn?1282324189 Hi...antibiotics can cause heartburn and acid reflux in that they kill off all bacteria...unfortunately we need good bacteria to help us digest our food. SO it feels like u may have too much acid, when in fact u may not have enuff right now. Ask ur dr about a pro biotic to help with the stomach issues. R u sure it is ur tonsils giving u the throat pain....mayb they have to come out?.....
1442483 tn?1284210716 I was initially told by the Dr., following upper and lower GI, that my 7 year old son had "infectious" gastritis as well as eosinophilic esophagitis. Later that afternoon we received prescriptions for Amoxicillin, Metronidazole, and Omeprazole. After the weekend the nurse phoned me the pathology results, but couldn't see any answer as to what the cause of his gastritis was. However it did state Moderately Acute Gastritis H. Pylori not detected.
2085202 tn?1373199740 ve been wondering is it true that cysts on the liver are pretty common and usually benign? Could gastritis be the cause of all of the pain? Could the cyst on the liver be causing the constant reddish brown stools? Any advice and ideas will be greatly valued , appreciated and used to tell the Dr. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn pylori (which is the most often cause of gastritis/ulcers), if positive, treatment with a combination of antibiotics for 2 weeks, and then another breath test to see success. 2. Along with antibiotics, strong anti-acid drugs, like Prevacid or Nexium - by doctor's decision. This should stop bleeding, if the cause was gastritis (ulcer). If all this won't help, well then you'll need another endoscsopy.
Avatar m tn Sounds like the antibiotics killed the bacteria that were competing with your normal bacteria in your bowels that lived around your genitals and were keeping a subclinical fungal infection in your inguinal area at bay. When you took the antibiotics, those good bacteria were killed and the fungus, possibly candidal, ascended into your colon and right up to your mouth. Anyone who has a yeast infection in the mouth should be checked for HIV.
Avatar f tn Gastroscopy showed h pylori gastritis and a presence of excess bile in the stomach. Triple therapy antibiotics prescribed (lansoprazole, amoxi and clarithromycin), he says he feels a lot better, but i'm worried sick. He says he still gets an ache but it comes and goes and is not constant, he says that certain foods seem to make him feel worse, am I right in believing you can eradicate the h pylori but the gastritis takes time to heal?
561356 tn?1216078616 yes i am on 2 antibiotics for gastritis and for the h. pylori and pepcid also for reflux. it is almost instaneous after eating no matter what it is. bigger meals are alot more painful though.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics in the Prevpak can cause heartburn as well. I would still suggest giving it a bit more time...
Avatar m tn Hi, thanks. But the nausea should be gone right? I've tried all sorts of medication to stop the damn nausea. However, it doesn't seem to go away. It's getting me frustrated, and I'm starting to lose faith. Sometimes I feel my nausea is not caused by my gastritis. So you're saying GASTRITIS will cause nausea, ALL THE TIME? And if my gastritis is cured, the nausea will be gone? :) thanks!
Avatar f tn i also baught some garlic supplements as they are a natural antibiotic apparently which i take sometimes as the doctor didnt give me any antibiotics for the gastritis. he never tested me for gastritis though properly by doing a blood test or owt. i also get shaky legs sometimes and dizziness. sometimes i gag at the smell of foods or if ive eaten too much or a food that i don't like. i do take the cetirizine hydrochloride as well omeprazole at the same time in the mornings.
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed Prilosec for gastritis I have developed after having the stomach flu two weeks ago. If gastritis is caused by H-Pylori, wouldn't it seem that antibiotics should be prescribed to kill off the bad bacteria?
Avatar m tn Severe gastritis can cause shortness of breath. The side effects of acid blockers however are long and very unpleasant. You are what you eat and what you absorb! If you want to help with gastritis then try digestive enzymes containing proteases.
Avatar f tn I don't think that could cause gastritis but it might well irritate it if you have inflamation present. Hope the doctors appointment goes well and they refer you for some tests. Ant acids are very helpful with controlling pain and treating symptoms but I think we should have an endoscope before just being prescribed ant acids such as omeprazole or ranitidine.
Avatar f tn I have short breath, difficult breathing, chest congestion, deep tiredness, night sweat, swollen lymp node, sore throat, coating on tongue, bumps on back tongue, rash, numbness, fatigue, joint pain, headache, fever, nausea, heartburn, itch.... Seven months ago I got h. Pylori and chronic gastritis, and four months ago took antibiotics for 10 days, 9 weeks ago had unprotected anal and oral sex. 8 week after sex tested with 4 generation test and result negative.
433485 tn?1321813390 Gastritis and GERD can go hand-in-hand. If you're doc saw irritation in the stomach then it's gastritis and it can cause all the symptoms you're describing. But it sounds like your doc didn't discuss diet with you. There's a whole list of 'do' and 'don't' foods - some are more acid provoking than others, so it might be a good idea to see if your current diet doesn't have a whole lot of those 'don'ts.
Avatar f tn Tomorrow my suppression phase (leuprolide acetate shots) for ICSI process is going to start. I have a history of very bad Gastritis. Though doctor has assured me, but i m still so tensed. I already feel so bloated, are these injections going to worsen the condition. I dont want to delay the process as well. Please help.
