Antibiotics cause diarrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics cause diarrhea

antibiotics

Avatar m tn Antibiotics can cause diarrhea in and of themselves as a side effect. Antibiotics can also disrupt the normal intestinal flora and cause you to allow a bacteria called Clostridium difficile to take over. You need to get cultured for this. It s a stool (fecal) culture. See your doctor (not the nurse) and ask to have this done. If it is positive they will actually have to treat you with another bacteria to get rid of it plus you will need to take probiotics.
Avatar m tn Antibiotics can cause diarrhea, but it sounds more like you may have a bug since you may have a fever. I would call your doctor about this and go from there. For now, keep a little vaseline on your bottom to ease the burning and drink lots of water and low sugar Gatorade to replenish your potassium and electrolytes lost with diarrhea. I hope this helps and wish you all the best.

Avatar m tn Taking antibiotics can often cause diarrhea because of the antibiotics killing good bacteria along with the bad. But you may be able to prevent diarrhea if you take acidophilus capsules regularly at the same time you are taking antibiotic.
Avatar n tn hello, It is due to antibiotics, i suffered 3 weekss of diarrhea from taking a cure of antibiotics and 3 months of stomach and abdominal pains. it is due to antibiotics 100%. the way i made it stopped was drinking a lot of fruit juice with active bacteria. You do the same plus alot of youghurt with active bacteria, not the one with fruits and sugar. hope you get better soon, it wants patience, but i am sure you will soon let it behind.
Avatar n tn It is a big possiblity. You have probably developed colitis and will have bouts of it when you take a antibiotic. Make sure you always tell your dr that you have this and that it flare ups with antibiotics. Tell him you have been able to take flagyl. Sometimes they give you steroids to take with the antibiotics so that it doesn't cause the colitis to flare up.
Avatar f tn "Traveler's diarrhea" that is caused by parasites (food or water poisoning) often starts with some delay and it may also last for ...weeks...Ova & parasites tests of the stool would show if you have parasites. Treatment is with antibiotics. If you do not treat it diarrhea may last for weeks and even after healing some parasites may stay in your bowel...
Avatar m tn Flagyl can cause nausea and diarrhea. Many of the antibiotics do. C. diff also causes nausea and diarrhea, so it may be difficult to figure out.
Avatar n tn It is certainly plausible that the wisdom teeth can cause glands in the neck to be swollen. If the teeth are infected that can cause a general malaise. I am not too sure about the stomach issues. Could be from the antibiotics.
Avatar m tn The smear they did that shows bacilli and white cells actually sounds pretty normal for the stool. The "pus" cells are white blood cells. Usually, when you have a "bad" bacteria or pathogen you would a lot more that 6-8. Bacilli are normal in the feces. Did they say if they were "gram positive or gram negative." So in order to tell if you have an infection you have to get a stool culture not just a smear or gram stain (which is what they did).
Avatar f tn Hi, well the symptoms you have may be a parasitic infection or possibly food poisoning (bad food). Do you have diarrhea or watery diarrhea? Any cramps? Where do you normally live? Can you have them check the stool sample for parasites. They are probably pretty used to seeing that there so would be able to identify them. They can also do a culture on the stool to see if you got Salmonella or Shigella which comes from contaminated food.
Avatar f tn All groups of antibiotics may cause AAD (antibiotic-associated diarrhea) are those with broad-spectrum coverage -- in particular cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, extended-coverage penicillins, and clindamycin -- are the most common culprits.
Avatar m tn Sometimes those tests should be done at least 3 times but maybe this has been done. The steroids and antibiotics can cause Candida which is an over abundance of fungus. It could be Irritable Bowel Disease. Have her B Vitamin levels been checked, that could be checked before a biopsy. I assume pancreas, liver and kidney levels are all ok? Wish I could be of more help as I know you are worried and this can be so frustrating.
Avatar m tn You still took the antibiotics. I'm referring to a reaction to the antibiotics causing the diarrhea. Otherwise, there isn't an std that I can think of that would cause diarrhea as I stated in my first reply.
Avatar m tn I developed frequent diarrhea shortly thereafter. It stayed with me for almost 2 weeks after finishing the antibiotics. About two weeks later it has returned. I now have it again for about 1.5 days. Is diarrhea alone without fever or sore throat at symptom of ARS? I am at the 8 week mark now and will get tested shortly but very concerned. Your feedback is most appreciated.
Avatar m tn Drink plenty of water to prevent any dehydration, take some oral rehydration solution and consult a doctor/physician as antimotility agents to control diarrhea and a course of antibiotics is needed. Since diarrhea is associated with fever, so the cause seems bacterial for which antibiotics may be needed. Hope it helps. Take care and do keep me posted on how you are doing. Warm regards.
Avatar m tn Diarrhea occurs from antibiotics generally because the medicine destroys the beneficial bacteria in the intestines that helps to digest food. You need to call your doctor immediately regarding the antibiotics! That concerns me greatly. Your sexual activity is zero risk. You are much more likely to experience problems from stopping your antibiotics.
Avatar m tn t had any burning when I pee or lesions around the penis. I have had diarrhea for almost 2 weeks now (possibly the antibiotics?) and some general feelings of not feeling well the past 2 or 3 mornings which goes away as soon as I get up (possibly the infection?
Avatar f tn To clarify: It's not diarrhea. Just very soft and often. I've had diarrhea & what I deal with on a daily basis is not that.
Avatar f tn C diff is a bacteria that can often invade your bowels after antibiotics and cause diarrheah and bloody stools . Most of the time it comes after antibiotic use but this is not always the case. The antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria which usually can keep this in check so the cdiff takes over. Thats why its a good idea to always take probiotics when you are on an antibiotics and never take antibiotics unless you are sure an infection is bacterial.
Avatar m tn I am an 18 year old male and I have had diarrhea for about 3 months now. I don't have any pain in my stomach and I am not dehydrated, I drink plenty of liquids throughout the day. The diarrhea alternates between once a day and a couple of days off then 3 times a day. I have been to the doctor and we have had blood test, urine samples, and stool samples and we haven't found anything wrong yet. He told me to take citracel and eat different types of foods but I'm still having diarrhea.
Avatar f tn I took my antibiotics for bv and then went to sleep. Woke up sweating and running to the bathroom having diarrhea. I'm still sweating and I'm having some stomach pain. Anybody experience this? Is it the antibiotics doing it to me ? I'm 17 weeks pregnant.
905425 tn?1242337287 The vet did a full fecal workup and nothing was found except for some inflammation from the diarrhea. She suggested that it might be due to the heat cycle. Dia-Gel and antibiotics provided relief for ALL of us. Things were fine for about 4 weeks then Lola went into heat again and had diarrhea again. More Dia-gel and things were fine. We had her spayed 4 weeks ago, everything has been great but last night she had a minor bout of the poops.
