Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and z pack

antibiotics

5915949 tn?1396188227 They say its a class B which means there arent any studies whether its safe or not. 16wks and have a sinus infection and I'm wondering has anyone taken a Z-pack for antibiotics and had any complications?
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
1472764 tn?1287588186 I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe. Much better to treat the infection before it gets out of hand and you have to use a stronger (and possibly less safe) medication to address it.
Avatar f tn Why is it that taking oral antibiotics (leviquin, biaxin and now Z pack) seem to give me spells of palpitations--rapid/pounding heart beat? This is listed as a side effect, but I'd like to know if there's a chemical explanation. I am a 49 year-old female runner w/ normal resting hr of about 50-55. I have a history of PAC's and PVC's but nothing serious.
Avatar f tn Ive heard conflicting information. Will the Z Pack reduce the effectiveness of my birth control pills?
Avatar f tn depends on which IUD....if it's the copper one, no effect. and even if it's the one that releases hormones the effect should be minimal because not only does the IUD use hormones to prevent pregnancy but the placement of the IUD itself can actually affect ovulation and the chances of pregnancy.. but the truth about risk of pregnancy due to taking antibiotics concurrently is iffy.

Avatar m tn I have been on Azithromycin (Z-pack) for 2 days and have a blood test schedule for Monday, so day 3 of a Z-pack? Do you know if the antibiotics could mask or alter the test in a good/bad/neutral way?
Avatar n tn I got pregnant with my first at a young age and I had been on birth control for 4 years and got sick with bronchitis and took a z pack and six weeks later I ended up pregnant! I hope this helps! Let us know how you are doing!
Avatar f tn I have had mycoplasma pneumonia for almost 3 months now- complete with a rash that comes and goes, insane chest pain, body aches.. They finally diagnosed me two weeks ago and I took a Z pack and felt decent finally but only for a few days, Im getting worse once again and I'm SO over this. What ended up working for you??
Avatar f tn Go get yourself some medicine I had bronchitis 8 weeks ago and after 3 antibiotics, 1 breathing treatment, & 2 inhalers we thought I was fine but I have been really sick for a week now and went to the ER today because I was dehydrated and thought my kids had given me the flu, turns out I have pneumonia.
214607 tn?1287677559 I just got off of Zithromax, also known as the Z-Pack because i was so sick. And the doctors assured me it was safe. I also did research online about what antibiotics are safe during pregnancy. Maybe you could start there too. Hope you feel better!
Avatar n tn I took her to the clinic to get tested and they ruled out BV even thought her family doctor assumed it was that. They insist that she has chlamydia and she gave it to me. They gave her a Z pack as well. Im just worried because i took my z pack on tuesday and im still having discharge. I drank a beer or 2 with my z pack later in the evening because i didn't know i could take alcohol with them. Now i'm wondering if the z pack didn't fully work on me.
Avatar n tn She spent next to no time with me, said I had an upper respiratory infection that spread everywhere in my head, and prescribed z-pack. She told me my throat was a bit inflamed, my glands were swollen and my ears had some fluid in them. Nothing about tonsils, but I'm not sure if I can trust her! Well, she forgot to tell her nurse about the z-pack, because her nurse told me whatever I had was going around, lingered for weeks and antibiotics don't touch it.
Avatar f tn I went ot the Dr about 3 weeks ago due to a severe sore throat and low grade fever, he did a step test and it came back negative but due to the redness and the tenderness/swollen glands he gave me a Z-Pack of Antibiotics. Within 24 hrs the sore throat weakened and I was feeling much better. Then, the following day it came back and it has been back everyday since then for the last 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn I began a round of the z-pack early this week for a bacterial infection (I have been sick for a month now; the dr. thinks it started as a cold and then I picked up a secondary infection), and just finished it up yesterday. I had started to feel better on the 3rd day of taking the antibiotics, but then yesterday on the day of the last dosage and even more so today (the 1st day off) I feel terrible again, with a lot of mucous, coughing, sinus issues. Can I go to the dr.
Avatar f tn I am 34 weeks pregnant and am very concerned about all these antibiotics (about 4) i took during my pregnancy, 3 were zithromycin z pack and one was metronidazole for bacterial vaginosis in my third trimester. For all these antibiotics, i received strong reassurance that they are safe to take to treat my common occuring respiratory infections. I am concerned. Is there anyone here who took many antbx during pregnancy and had a healthy child? AMEN...
Avatar m tn I was recently told by someone I had sex with that they tested positive for gonorrhea. I have had no symptoms and it has been over two months now. Is there a possibility that the Z-pack effectively treated the gonohrrea?
Avatar n tn It was most likely a Z pack, not a c pack :) No, steroids and antibiotics will not cause a false positive hsv2 igg result. Your result is over the false positive range and most likely accurate. If you haven't already, be sure to watch the patient counseling video and read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com for terrific ( and free ) info on genital herpes.
Avatar n tn Well, my test results have come back: negative for HIV, negative for syphilis. All I'm waiting for are ureaplasma and mycoplasma. But I'm 2 days out from finishing the z pack and am still having symptoms (discharge yestrday afternoon while at the beach and a continued feeling like there's something in my urethra). I think I need to wait some time to see if this resolves. If not, I'm going to insist on a urethral swab/culture.
5587453 tn?1370826032 when I was pregnant they had to give me a z-pack because I had bronchitis. and I was like 6 months pregnant. so I hope this helps a little bit.
Avatar f tn t be able to make it to the doctors for the z pack this week but he has these antibiotics available. And if so what would his dosage length of treatment be ?
Avatar f tn It can come back if the antibiotics did not effectively treat and clear the bacteria that causes Chlamydia. Some strains of the STD are resilient to some antibiotics, this can be geographical. Request a Z-Pack from your doctor. In the meantime, cranberry juice, garlic, keeping clean down there are all good ways to make life easier. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn I see a lot of people asking about z pack curing chlamydia/gonorrhea and the common response is “It has to be 1g at once to work.” I’m confused by this. 1 g is 1,500mg. The typical z pack is 1,500mg total over the course of 5 days. 500mg on day one and then 250mg the next four days. So my question is, why would it HAVE to be 1,000mg of z pack at once to work rather than also 1,500 over 5 days?
