358699 tn?1297646442 My primary care physician did test my thyroid when I first met him when he noticed I had Vitiligo and I found out I have hypothyroidism. I am being treated for that but I've read that this autoimmune disorder may be caused by vitamin deficiencies and my doctor has never mentioned I should be tested.
Avatar n tn Hi White bumps on the skin may be due to postinflammatory hypopigmentation, yeast infection and even vitiligo. In your case however, vitiligo does not seem to be likely as you have noted the white spots to disappear in time. Vitiligo refers to a loss of skin cells that are responsible for pigmentation. Just continue to observe your skin condition. This does not seem to be something serious. I do not think this is due to the medications.
Avatar m tn To have a second opinion we went to an another dermatologist he said it is not vitiligo and is 100 % curable this may be because of thyroid / liver problem and suggested LFT and thyroid tests. Now am totally confused what to do, what all tests (another than the mentioned above) should we do so as to know the actual cause. Is there any tests / specific symptoms for vitiligo ?
Avatar n tn White spots on the body may suggest a fungal infection, pityriasis alba, and vitiligo. Vitiligo presents as white patches which may occur symmetrically in both sides of the body. The borders are well demarcated. As for fungal infections, it presents as white patches of skin with a central scaling. It may not be stark white unlike vitiligo. Pityriasis usually involves children. They present as diffuse patches of whitish spots. I suggest you have this assessed by your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn and she also diagnosed that as Tinea versicolor and she gave me a shampoo and antibiotics and it does not work. Lastly, the fourth Dr. said it is not a Tinea versicolor or fungus. He said, they are probably, Pityriasis alba or post inflammatory hypoigmentation. He ask me about the diagnose of 2nd Dr. and when I find it he want me to send the name to him, but the problem is I could not find the name. He gave me a shot and we will see. Any idea about what are these spots?

Avatar f tn First I noticed vitiligo on my inner wrists and a small amount near my mouth. Then a year later was diagnosed as hypothyroid. Next, I seem to not have the general health I used to -- find I'm much more susceptible to viruses, etc., even ending up with shingles at one point. Seems like my immune system is failing me in several areas. Anyone else with Hashimoto's experiencing this same pattern? Any suggestions to halt or slow down this decline?
Avatar m tn White skin patches may have fungal infections, pityriasis alba and vitiligo as differentials. These are differentials that you may need to consider for any hypopigmented areas on the skin. Is there any scaling involved?

I'd appreciate any information about causes and potential treatment options. Thank you.

Dermatologist and GP think vitiligo but no visible improvement from prednizone 50 mg, betamethasone dipropionate .05% topical, elidel pimecromlimus cream 1%. Biopsy of skin on finger stated “a normal density of epidermal melanocyte which argues against vitiligo. No fungal, organism or increased much were found.

Avatar m tn I hope someone in the medical community see my plea and conduct research on the link between low stomach acidity, h-pylori and the vitiligo. For a dermatologist the research is easy. All he/she has to do is to test the acidity level of his vitiligo patient and the fact will speak for itself. The test could be done with the use of PH capsule without inserting a tube through the nose.
Avatar n tn Similar patches also appear on both the mucous membranes inside of the mouth and nose and the retina of the eyes. The hair that grows on areas affected by vitiligo sometimes turns white. The cause of vitiligo is not known. The most widely accepted view is that the depigmentation occurs because vitiligo is an autoimmune disease-a disease in which a person's immune system reacts against the body's own organs or tissues. Vitiligo may also be hereditary or can run in families.

When i got concerned i check my perianal area and saw that the skin are lighter than normal. I've used miconazole thinking it might be a jock itch but nothing happened. Then i read something about tropical hydrocortisone and still nothing happened so then i decided to see a gynecologist.
