m a 26 year old female and have just finished a course of antibiotics for a UTI. My period was 3 days late and now that it is here is seems to have a normal amount but it just looks like there is more red blood then the usual mix. Without sounding disgusting there have been the usual dark clots,etc. I was just wondering if antibiotics can have an effect on your period?
For about the last 2 months I've been on and off antibiotics, wile still taking my birth control. I had my last period probably like a month and a week ago but I honestly don't remember i just know I had it. I've been having regular sex with my boyfriend, he always pulls out, but once he came in me and since I had been on so many antibiotics I got the Plan B pill later that day. Now I'm on the off week (the brown pills) of my birth control and my period still hasn't come.

Women can be late for a variety of reasons and illness is one of them. Needing antibiotics means you've been sick recently, so yes, that can be the cause of why you are late. Since you are on the pill AND used protection, pregnancy would not be the case. :>) Other reasons women are late are changes in routine, weight gain or loss, stress or just a blip on the hormonal radar. Every woman is late at one time or another.
Over the past 3 weeks i've been on a z-pac, amoxicillin, a liquid form of azithromicin, and had two shots in my hips for tonsilitis. Today I started my period and I'm not supposed to start until around the 28th. Some people say some antibiotics can affect your period and some say they can't. My doctor recently told me that it is rare for you to be late for your period and get a false bfn. the last intercourse i had was precisely 4 weeks ago with my boyfriend, and right when my app predicted my ovulation (around 3 weeks ago) i got diagnosed with a kidney infection and was on amoxicilin (antibiotics) for 10 days and also heavy painkillers. now that my period is late i am having all the symptoms i normally have before my period, and i got very stressed so i took two pregnancy tests on the third day that my period was late and they were both negative.

Last normal period was March 30th, in March it came 1 week late and in May it completely skipped. On June 4th I started bleeding very lightly and today june 22nd I am still spotting. I have had regular periods for four years straight . In May I was put on birth control and I've still been regular. I ended my last period on July 21st had a lot of sex the next day and then got a uti three days later which would be the 24th and had sex that day too. On the 29th I started bleeding brown blood and figured it was associated with the uti.
You chances aren't off the charts but yes there is a chance. Don't freak out with worry it could cause your period to be late and all kinds of other unnecessary things. Just get a test as soon as possibe and blood test are normally more accurate so if you don't trust the little pink line results go to the Dr for labs. And most antibiotics mess with birth contol so be careful!
