Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and infections

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Still finding it difficult to open my mouth and my gums also seem to be aching off and on. Could this be an infection? Spoke to GP via phone and he precribed antibiotics with penicillin which I started taking today and wondering how long it will take for some ease to take effect? And when to expect the swelling to disappear? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn Most likely a yeast infection, those IV antibiotics are pretty heavy duty. Eat lots of yogurt and call your doc, usually they will just call something in for you.
Avatar f tn My doctor (rheumatologist, immunologist, and internist) works from the position that infections are at the root of autoimmune disorders, even arthiritis and many cancers. I'm autoimmune and have immunodeficiency, and antibiotics and anti-virals provided the first relief for some symptoms that other doctors had not been able to treat for a long time. There's a bunch of research to support the connection. You can search 'googlescholar' for autoimmune and virus or bacteria.
1123420 tn?1350561158 I Was Told That Bladder Infections Can Lead To preterm Labor. I Have Them Regularly And They Were Actually Part Of the Problem I Had Trying To Get Pregnant For Almost A Year With No Luck. Avatar n tn if it is due to taking antibiotics, try eating plain yogurt while taking the antibiotics...this will prevent a yeast infection from even begining.
Avatar f tn Over the counter treatments are safe for a yeast infection but a bacterial infection needs antibiotics. If you have a bacterial infection and get put on antibiotics make sure you up your yogurt intake so the meds don't give you a yeast infection.
Avatar m tn Is there anythign I can do that I am not. I did notice I felt much better when I was put on antibiotics and the infection went away but that did not last long. it is a Dermoid Cyst.

Many are not sure about the possible harmful effects some antibiotics may cause their liver so below is a general guide: http://www.sinomedresearch.org/hcv/articles/c17_ABX.htm what do you think ? What you know about the antibiotics and HBV ? what antibiotics are safe to use ?
Avatar f tn yes you have to go to the doctor, they will do a pelvic exam and take some swabs and if the test comes back positive for BV they will give you antibiotics, if it's yeast they will usually give you one pill called diflucan or some creams.
Avatar f tn I've had 3. I also was put on a daily antibiotic which you will prob be asked to do as well. I was on a very low 50 dose but it ask made me sick and gave my husband a yeast infection. I stopped taking it and now I have another one. I'm 38 weeks and praying I don't get a yeast infection again. I don't take baths anymore. Only use summers eve soap. Practically shower after sex.
Avatar f tn If they gave you antibiotics its a bacterial infection which means it will go away and you won't have "outbreaks" it sounds kinds like impetigo to me.
Avatar f tn I have Bacterial Vaginosis and I am 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I heard it is common in pregnancy but how do doctors treat this infection while pregnant??
Avatar f tn If you have been on antibiotics that would do it. The antibiotics kill all bacteria (even the good ones) and that is why we are more likely to get a yeast infection after being on antibiotics. My suggestion would be if you ever are on antibiotics or just want to prevent the yeast infection, make sure you buy Danactive and drink one a day- that will keep your "good" bacteria up and this will help prevent further yeast infections...
Avatar f tn I had bladder infections twice between Apr-Sept and took antibiotics. I know syphilis is rare but I was worried about having picked up syphilis from one of the past encounters I mentioned: "2008 - one incidence of a small amount of penetration but stopped very quickly (I believe the guy was not promiscuous)" On this occasion it was 'dry humping' without clothes but a small amount of penetration occurred and I stopped it.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know anything about BV and taking antibiotics for it? I just want more info about it, thank you.

Avatar f tn s about 6 months ago, I am unable to take oral antibiotics without some serious side effects, such as diahhrea and a lot of abdominal pain. Has anyone had any luck with other types of antibiotics or do you go straight for the IV antibiotics? I also have Type 2 diabetes, so infection sends my blood glucose way high.
Avatar n tn I've been on antibiotics almost staright for 3 and1/2 years. As soon as I'm off antibiotics for 2 weeks a bladder infection comes right back! I've suffered on and off for the last 10 years. 19 years ago I had kidney stones when I was pregnant. I've had scopes done and ct scans and everything shows normal. I had a cyst removed from my left ovarian 7 years ago and I had endometriosis removed off of the outside of my bladder 6 months ago!
Avatar n tn Not all cases respond though and oral doxycycline and oral flax and fish oil are often very helpful. I also like to use commercial lid scrubs like ocusoft original to start with and sometimes sterilid cream works great. There is one other thing - demodex follicularis - which are little mites in the eyelash follicles. They can cause terrible blepharitis in some people and the doctor needs to look for that.
3242115 tn?1447004766 The yeast infection is from the antibiotics. You need to call the doctor and report what is going on. Your kidneys are very important and you can't mess around. Once you are done with antibiotics, you can take a probiotic to get your bacterial flora back to normal. You can use a cream to control symptoms now.
317787 tn?1473358451 Antibiotics and Chronic Liver Diseases Chronic hepatitis patients sometimes need to use antibiotics for unrelated infections and various surgical and dental procedures. Many are not sure about the possible harmful effects some antibiotics may cause their liver so I will try to provide a general guide here. The liver has very complicated functions and one of the most important is the detoxification of drugs such as antibiotics and its metabolites.
587946 tn?1240925653 The second question is------ are these frequent recurrent infections (infection that resolves on antibiotics then you get reinfected again frequently), or a persistent infection (one that never went away but gets suppressed on antibiotics, then returns off treatment)? Persistent infections are usually the same bacteria everytime, and means that there is a structural problem like a stone, blockage or other problem causing the infection to persist.
