Still finding it difficult to open my mouth and my gums also seem to be aching off and on. Could this be an infection? Spoke to GP via phone and he precribed antibiotics with penicillin which I started taking today and wondering how long it will take for some ease to take effect? And when to expect the swelling to disappear? Thanks in advance!

Most likely a yeast infection, those IV antibiotics are pretty heavy duty. Eat lots of yogurt and call your doc, usually they will just call something in for you.

Over the counter treatments are safe for a yeast infection but a bacterial infection needs antibiotics. If you have a bacterial infection and get put on antibiotics make sure you up your yogurt intake so the meds don't give you a yeast infection.

If they gave you antibiotics its a bacterial infection which means it will go away and you won't have "outbreaks" it sounds kinds like impetigo to me.

If you have been on antibiotics that would do it. The antibiotics kill all bacteria (even the good ones) and that is why we are more likely to get a yeast infection after being on antibiotics. My suggestion would be if you ever are on antibiotics or just want to prevent the yeast infection, make sure you buy Danactive and drink one a day- that will keep your "good" bacteria up and this will help prevent further yeast infections...

I had bladder infections twice between Apr-Sept and took antibiotics. s about 6 months ago, I am unable to take oral antibiotics without some serious side effects, such as diahhrea and a lot of abdominal pain.
