Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and herbs

antibiotics

Avatar f tn So if the comparison is between doxy and herbs, herbs might be better only because doxy is so limited in it abilities. I found antibiotics to work well and they were not a problem -- and I'm very sensitive to many meds, chemicals, etc.
1472647 tn?1297191572 s rosacea, so not everyone responds to everything. We tried liver cleansing, blood cleansing, and natural antibiotics, and no success. Never thought about hpylori, though. I have seen others have some success with this route, however. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have had Lyme's probably 15 years, finally diagnosed. I have been trying herbal treatments first, I figure I can always go to antibiotics later, if the herbs dont' work. But antibiotics don't always get every last spirochete either, especially in a long-term infection like mine. In which case, I will want my gut flora/immune system as strong as possible. Which means go with herbs, not gut scouring antibiotics. Anybody have some experience with this conundrum?
5569754 tn?1376854288 My LLMD was an all-antibiotics-all-the-time kind of doc, so I can't speak to the herbal approach from a doc. Did he indicate that he would add in antibiotics later? Maybe he's just building your immune system in preparation for antibiotics or something like that. It's a very fair question to ask the doc. When do you go back for the next appointment?
1350822 tn?1276880882 Ok so here I go again.... My family members keep suggesting that I cleanse my liver with herbs, olive oil, lemons, epsom salts, etc. to "get rid of Hep B" and it's symptoms. They seem to believe that my system is "toxic and backed up from bad diet and unhealthy lifestlye", and if I go on some radical program of eating herbs and different concoctions all day every day, that I will be "cured" and the jaundice will "go away".
Avatar m tn We wrapped up for winter and my husband struck with severe sinus infection. After no antibiotics made it better, he got really bad. Phneumonia like symptoms. After 72 tests, he had vasculitis. I developed deep chest infection to er 3 toms. Then it was called asthmatic bronchitis. Cold, wet air sets it off. I now believe it's rads. Do lots of herbs, husband in remission. Keep researching. Anti-inflammatory herbs most helpful. Dry warm weather stops it mostly.
798555 tn?1292787551 Herxes are different in each person -- it depends on body chemistry, which infections and co-infections you have, and how effective the antibiotics (and perhaps herbs too?) are at killing the bacteria. If it's just annoying, then think of it as a sign that the antibiotics are working. When the bacteria are dead and the body takes out the leftover trash, Herxing will stop.
1181178 tn?1320783461 My Lyme doc is a great believer in antibiotics, and they worked for sure, but I had to go find another doc who has me on a bunch of supplements because my body was so trashed by the illnesses and then the treatment. My Lyme doc seems to have a blind spot when it comes to supplements, but at least understands the diseases themselves.
Avatar m tn There are different points of view on antibiotics vs herbs to treat Lyme disease and the other infections (called as a group 'co-infections'). I was treated with antibiotics, and I am clear of both Lyme and the co-infections I had (babesiosis). I personally would use antibiotics again rather than trying herbs, because I know the antibiotics work.
Avatar f tn We both have a restricting vein in our neck and legs. I started her antibiotics again hoping it will help and settle her inflammation which I believe is making her veins even worse. The only thing that seems to help is coffee twice sometimes three times a day. I hear that it restricts the veins while supplying blood flow. Is there any naturual herbs for her that would help veins. Also she has been on a rather healthy diet to lose weight and she always feels worse after she goes on a diet.
211043 tn?1337050701 During my last IVF I was on antibiotics, but I got a terrible infection and got a fever and had to be switched to even stronger antibiotics. I was in horrible pain, plus I was mildly hyperstimulatated, so I'm REALLY nervous about my upcoming retrieval which should be later this week. I'm trying to stay optimistic and hoping that it will go smoother, but I'm nervous. Do any of you take additional vitamins or herbs on top of your prenatal before your retrieval?
Avatar m tn I take a different view -- antibiotics and herbs are both chemicals, but they are not necessarily equally effective in treating Lyme disease or other bacterial infections. In recent years, the use of herbs instead of antibiotics has surged, because of fears about over-use of antibiotics ... but not because the antibiotics are ineffective or harmful in and of themselves.
Avatar n tn ve taken antibiotics and herbs such as uva ursi and horstail but nothing has solved the problem and made me go back to normal. I've also been experiencing stinging in the urethra, penile pain and bladder issues since then. I've went to the doctor and passed two urine tests, which showed that it wan't uti, Trichomoniasis, chlamidya, etc. Has anyone ever experienced this and can you provide any assistance at all?
1763947 tn?1334055319 I researched this a lot and talked to two doctor and these herbs are completely safe and can be taken with "western" meds. Dr Zhang has some that have "ABX" features and the medical community here, Burascano included, don't think of these as pharmaceuticals. When I saw his quotes and a couple other ILADS docs comments, I became very interested. Rico, the Bart's herb has houtuynia Chordata thumb. This may be spelled wrong since my eye sight is bad.
Avatar f tn Then, I went back on my Lyme Disease and Babesia (co-infection of Lyme) treatment (Chinese herbs), and they are worse than ever! I am hoping that this is just a bacteria die-off, which is common with Lyme, and your symptoms get worse before they get better. Do you think I should increase my Toprol dose? I am seriously going crazy with all these PVC's!
314892 tn?1264623903 I am so excited for you Kitty! Please let me know how it goes. I have done rounds of oral antibiotics, but went the holistic approach with cats claw and other herbs for the chronic end of it. I can't wait to hear how this goes for you.
798555 tn?1292787551 That is the exact approach that my LLND (member of ILADs) is taking - starting the herbals to build up the immune system and then, if she determines necessary, will add in antibiotics. I see her in a couple of weeks and will get this clarified along with which antimicrobials in my protocol are targeting Babs. Take care, thanks everyone as always for your wealth of info and support on here!!
Avatar f tn But an ear infection is a really acute thing and painful, and could possibly cause damage or spread, and a short course of amoxycillin could have that sorted in 5 days. There are herbal alternatives, but not all herbs which are helpful for humans would suit dogs. Herbs are just not as quickly effective as antibiotics for something like this though. A herbal or holistic veterinarian would be able to advise, if it's possible to . consult one?
Avatar m tn Good catch, mojo. And every doc has a different approach with different meds and/or herbs. My doc didn't do any herbs (like artemisia) at all and stayed strictly with pharmceuticals. Lyme treatment: still in its formative stage.
Avatar m tn I have not heard of those herbs but I am also treating with herbs (along with the antibiotic) and have noticed the most improvement when on the herbs. However, I DO think antibiotics are needed at some point to get this thing under control.
Avatar f tn If you google/search "lyme herbs" you will find information about the different approaches. Everyone is different because of the different coinfections we each have and the interaction of various herbs and meds with our particular metabolisms. Try different things until you find a combination that works best, and keep your doc in the loop so s/he knows what you're taking. Herbs have side effects just like pharmaceutical drugs and may be contraindicated in certain people.
Avatar n tn Im going to begin treatment in about a month and I am wondering what herbs and vitamins people have used while ON treatment? And thoughts on do you think they helped you either feel better and possibly clear faster....etc.. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated. Is there a list of herbs to take somewhere on this forum?
Avatar f tn Sounds like you are making progress -- this is good! Everyone here has a different history on how they were diagnosed, by what kind of doc, what infections we have in addition to Lyme, and how we were medicated (herbal vs pharmaceuticals), and how we responded to treatment. All of those are some of the reasons the docs are confused, and never mind how confused we the patients can be!
