Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics and diarrhea

antibiotics

Avatar m tn Antibiotics can cause diarrhea in and of themselves as a side effect. Antibiotics can also disrupt the normal intestinal flora and cause you to allow a bacteria called Clostridium difficile to take over. You need to get cultured for this. It s a stool (fecal) culture. See your doctor (not the nurse) and ask to have this done. If it is positive they will actually have to treat you with another bacteria to get rid of it plus you will need to take probiotics.
Avatar m tn -Diarrhea that burns like hell and smells really bad -No abdominal pain, only pain I have is once it is coming out so to say -MAYBE a low degree fever, I am at work so it is hard to say. Could this be associated with the antibiotics? Anything to do or look out for? Appreciate the help.
Avatar n tn hello, It is due to antibiotics, i suffered 3 weekss of diarrhea from taking a cure of antibiotics and 3 months of stomach and abdominal pains. it is due to antibiotics 100%. the way i made it stopped was drinking a lot of fruit juice with active bacteria. You do the same plus alot of youghurt with active bacteria, not the one with fruits and sugar. hope you get better soon, it wants patience, but i am sure you will soon let it behind.
Avatar m tn Flagyl can cause nausea and diarrhea. Many of the antibiotics do. C. diff also causes nausea and diarrhea, so it may be difficult to figure out.
974371 tn?1424653129 I've used both (I'm on daily probiotics and just recently was on antibiotics for pneumonia) and didn't really have many issues. The antibiotics gave me worse diarrhea but it clears up after time - nothing in regards to adverse effects being used together. In reality anything can have an adverse affect with any medication. Even just taking OTC pain meds. All things are given on a risk/benefits scale, and he seems to think this one will work best for you.
Avatar m tn So I've had a surgery on a granuloma in my mouth this Wednesday and I have to take antibiotics. I've had a bad reaction to them with diarrhea which got better after I ate few yogurts, but I also had a few questions I take augmentin btw, which is pretty safe, but still So I've found some blue bruise mark type of thing in my leg, both sides. Could be just be hitting something and not noticing, but are there any this type of reactions http://imgur.
Avatar f tn To clarify: It's not diarrhea. Just very soft and often. I've had diarrhea & what I deal with on a daily basis is not that.
Avatar m tn No I was perfectly fine and hanging out with friends and then all of a sudden I started having this problem and it never went away. I was not taking any medicine or antibiotics and my family doesn't have any GI issues or food intolerances.
Avatar f tn I took my antibiotics for bv and then went to sleep. Woke up sweating and running to the bathroom having diarrhea. I'm still sweating and I'm having some stomach pain. Anybody experience this? Is it the antibiotics doing it to me ? I'm 17 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn C diff is a bacteria that can often invade your bowels after antibiotics and cause diarrheah and bloody stools . Most of the time it comes after antibiotic use but this is not always the case. The antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria which usually can keep this in check so the cdiff takes over. Thats why its a good idea to always take probiotics when you are on an antibiotics and never take antibiotics unless you are sure an infection is bacterial.
Avatar f tn Today, twice so far, I have gone to use the bathroom and all that came out was clear w/ yellow tingle and slightly bloody mucus. Nothing brown or diarrhea like, just this mucus. Should i be worried? Anyone have this or had this and seen a doc? Its Saturday and my doc not available till Monday.
Avatar m tn Hello, in Dec. 2010 I got a pres for Levaquinn 500 and took this until around 12/17/2010, the sinus infection did not subside (I took levaquinn probably 2 - 2 1/2 years before always for sinus too). Therefore, I went back to an immediate care place versus my doctor and was prescribed Augmentin 875 2x day for 7 days.
Avatar f tn I was taking amoxicllin at first and just got told to stop taking it and got switched to arythomycin cuz I have what they believe to be the start of bronchitis. Now as a result im starting to get diarrhea is there anything I cam do to help stop the diarrhea?
Avatar f tn s the problem that worries me, you had staph took antibiotics which hopefully killed the staph but continue to have diarrhea. The problem with the antibiotics is that they kill off good and bad bacteria. And in the process, they can leave behind some bacteria like C. diff that can 'bloom' after the antibiotics are stopped. So if you're having diarrhea after the antibiotics were done and you've been taking probiotics, something isn't right.
Avatar m tn It is 20 days that I stopped it and now no burning and no bloody stool but still I have diarrhea. is it possible to have diarrhea 20 days after stopping it? I have IBS also.
Avatar f tn The good bacteria keeps things like yeast in our gut at a manageable level. When you take antibiotics it kills all the bacteria, good and bad, and therefore things like yeast grow and cause major problems. First thing to do is to stop taking antiboitics, start taking probiotics (at least 10 billion cultures), start a low fodmap diet (google it), and hopefully these things will have you feeling better in a short amount of time.
Avatar f tn He was put on antibiotics for 3 weeks and since then has has a lot of GI issues. It started as just diarrhea and his food was changed. Diarrhea continued and he was started on probiotics. Same thing only now he has bloody diarrhea with a really foul smell. Could this be C-Diff from the the medication? What would the treatment require? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn started having intense diarrhea, nausea and felt overall exhausted. I thought for sure I had picked up a parasite or bacterial infection. A few days later, I came home and as it was the weekend, an on-call doctor prescribed antibiotics to treat both possibilities. The antibiotics didn't touch my symptoms and made me increasingly nauseas (more than I've ever felt in my life). I have since been back to my primary care doctor three times.
Avatar f tn Treatment is with antibiotics. If you do not treat it diarrhea may last for weeks and even after healing some parasites may stay in your bowel...
Avatar n tn i had abdominal pain and diarrhea and even if i drank a little bid of water i was in extreme pain and more or less i was going to the bathroom every 20 minutes .

Avatar m tn I'm a 32 years old non-smoking male. On 23rd of January, I started to experience stomach upset and heaty body (37.5 deg C). Thinking that i might have too much of deep fried food, I ignored it and started to drink lots of water. The condition didn't get better on the next day which I started to feel burning sensation in my throat, mouth, esophagus as well as my eyes. My body temperature remained 37.5 deg C. I didn't go to see the doctor but instead drinking lots of water and rest.
Avatar m tn Taking antibiotics can often cause diarrhea because of the antibiotics killing good bacteria along with the bad. But you may be able to prevent diarrhea if you take acidophilus capsules regularly at the same time you are taking antibiotic.
