Avatar m tn Just to clarify, 2 g azithromycin isn't quite "protocol" for gonorrhea treatment at least not in the US. It is sometimes used for gonorrhea, but never as the drug of choice. It is somewhat less effective than the recommended regimens, like cefixime or ceftriaxone. However, it does have the advantage of also being active against chlamydia.
Avatar m tn It is possible for your infection to be resistant to azithromycin, the typical treatment for NGU. The Augmentin will have no effect on chlamdia, which is what I think your doctor suspects you have. Go back into the doctor. He/she will most likely do a culture and sensitivity to identify the infectious organism as well as determine what antibiotic or combination of antibiotics will work best.
Avatar n tn This study concluded that azithromycin 1g single dose was quite effective in curing gonorrhea. "This paper describes the efficacy of azithromycin 1g single dose in the management of uncomplicated gonorrhoea either with or without chlamydial co-infection. Three hundred and one patients were treated for gonorrhoea between January 2000 and June 2001; 226/301 (75.1%) were treated with azithromycin 1g stat dose while the rest were treated with different regimens. Ninety-seven of 301 (32.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Azithromycin for 4 days. I have gotten worse. Still have fever and have developed nasal congestion with yellow discharge. ENT gave me Spectracef. I read that Spectracef does not treat mychoplasma. So, is there an antibiotic that would treat both mychoplasma AND sinusitis incase I have one or both?
Avatar n tn Agreed. 1000 mg of azithromycin would prevent chlamydia, if you were at risk for that, but probably not gonorrhea and syphilis, which you are at risk for. Unfortunately, since you've taken the antibiotic, you'll have to wait to test for gonorrhea since the antibiotic can cause you to have false negative results. You should wait at least 3 weeks from the day you took the antibiotic. If you get symptoms - a discharge, pain with urination - see your doctor. They can test the discharge.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was treated yesterday night with 2 grams of azithromycin for gonorrhea (25 year old female). Didn't have any symptoms, but knew a sexual partner had it. Couldn't take the shot because of a bleeding problem I have. I have pain in my back today. Can this be associated with PID? I was exposed 10 days ago. Going for a follow up in 10 days to make sure the pills worked, should I worry before then? Or give the meds some time to work?
Avatar n tn but almost 2 hours after taking 1g single-dose azithromycin I developed serious diarrhea. Could the antibiotic have been evacuated and thus the effects negated prior to absorption in this short amount of time?
Avatar n tn 50 mg twice a day for couple of days, and then once day for 10 days), along with an antibiotic eyedrop (azithromycin). I started with one pill of the oral antibiotic, though I don't like taking it as I have colitis, so I'm worried this may cause a flare-up-- especially when she is only guessing this is a systemic bacterial infection (nothing tested). I started on the eyedrop, and the burning and stinging were fairly severe.
Avatar f tn Amoxiclav is an antibiotic to help infection specifically water n maybe a sinus chest.infection etc azithromycin is antibiotic but generally used for chlamydia.
Avatar n tn I noticed discharge from my penis and immediately went to the doctor and received 1 g of Azithromycin treatment for Chlamydia. I had diarrhea ~5 hours after I took the azithromycin. Was the antibiotic absorbed into my system or did it pass out with diarrhea?
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar f tn You should have absorbed the dose in that time. Chlamydia symptoms may persist for days until the inflammatory reaction subsides. You may need a test for cure in 30 days. Be sure to use condoms until then.
Avatar m tn After 2 separate incidents (the last 2 sexual encounters Ive had),1 of frottage & 1 of mutual masturbation, a lot of vaginal fluid from a woman (of unknown status) was in direct contact with my penis. Vaginal fluid seeped through both our underwear and I had some on my hand which I used touched my penis. I also fingered her and immediately put my fingers, with her vaginal fluid on them in my mouth. I went to a GP to complain of urethral sensations/small amounts of clear discharge.
Avatar n tn Took amoxicillin for a week and then visited Doctor he put me on azithromycin for 3 days but today is the fourth day still i feel the same.
446049 tn?1649005835 Last week, I went to my primary care doctor last week after 3 weeks of cough/congestion. She sent me for chest xrays and started me on Albuterol inhaler, ZPak antibiotic (Azithromycin) for 5 days and mucinex. The xrays came back negative for pneumonia but indicated lungs were minimally hyperinflated. I've never smoked. I feel a bit better but still have the cough.(4 weeks now). Would Erythromycin be a better antibiotic to stop this cough?
Avatar f tn I was still worried and went into a walking clinic and he thought I had gonnorea so he gave me a shot of ceftrianxone and 4 tablets of azithromycin which I took and the urine test came back negative.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor, to be sure; however, I've had thyroid blood tests done while on antibiotics and it's never changed the results. Is TSH the only test you are getting done? You really need to have Free T3 and Free T4 tests done, as well. TSH is a pituitary hormone and is not always indicative of actual thyroid status. Have you already been diagnosed with a thyroid condition? Are you currently on thyroid medication?
Avatar n tn t yet developed the infection, as would be indicated by the presence of a lesion or a positive blood test, than it takes for curative treatment. The augmentin taken twice daily for two weeks would certainly cure and prevent development of syphilis. The combination of cefixime and azithromycin would most probably prevent infection but it would not be curative if the infection was established.
Avatar m tn He prescibed me doxycycline for 10 days, azithromycin for 2 days, potassium permanganate crystal to dissolve in water to dip my penis in for 10mins and also a bottle of transparent liquid drops for my penis. Now, i read through online and found out that gonnorhea, mycoplasma etc can be tested throught PCR and asked my doctor about this. He told me regardless of which bacteria(chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc) caused my std, the antibiotic treatment will be the same.
Avatar m tn Yesterday I finished a 5 day course Azithromycin after a postive test result for mycoplasma genitalium. I'm still feeling some of the sad symptoms as I was before. When is a retest recommended? Does anyone know if the Azithromycin continues to work, even after the course is finished or whether the fact that I still have symptoms (burning when I urinate) this means I need a longer course of antibiotics. I've read that some Azithromycin is resistant to antibiotics.
1431138 tn?1294566894 one of them says its excreted in breast milk so not to take while breast feeding (which im not it just freaked me out) the main one that i really need to take is the antibiotic Azithromycin but this one says it can affect your heartbeat so i really dont want to take it cause im afraid of what it will do to the baby. silly i know if a dr gave to it me. but i was wondering if any of you have taken this or know anything about it? help!
Avatar f tn I had some azithromycin prescribed to me for diarrhoea from my doctor before I came overseas, to use in case of illness/travellers diarrhoea and inability to see a doctor. I looked up the uses of azithromycin and saw that it could be taken for chlamydia. Unfortunately at that time I didn't read the prescribed dose, so I took 1000mg in the way that is recommended for travellers diarrhoea, two 250mg tablets Day 1, Day 2 + 3 one 250mg tablet.
