1243543 tn?1269127622 If someone can take a daily anti depressant why cant they take a daily anti anxiety med?I personally cant take antidepressants im to sensitive to their side effects and they make me worse than the horrible generalized anxiety that i already suffer so horribly everyday from or believe me i would take them and yes ive tried several and gave them all enough time to build up or do something besides make me 10 times worse.
Avatar f tn First of all, You dont need to try to make yourself sound "smart" by pointing out things that quite frankly, you should already be able to tell I know. " The whole bit" THERE IS NO EVIDENCE that they actually "Help" a person comapered to a Placebo. Are you getting your information from the FDA website, or a A.D Commercial?
Avatar m tn I know for me, I have tried 16 different anti-depressants and other than the ones that gave me severe nausea and the ones that made me feel like a walking Zombie (Effexor, Seroquel and Olanzapine), the others did nothing. From what I have read as well as independent, double-blind studies done by universities (not drug company trials), they showed that for mild to moderate depression, a sugar pill was sometimes more effective than any of the SSRI, SARI, anti-psychotics,Tri-cyclics, etc. meds.
Avatar f tn Try going on anti anxiety meds and do some dbt it really helps ive suffered with anxiety since i was about 5 years old and im 19 now , altho mines quiet bad lately im not on any meds but my dbt skills from being in hospital are really helping me
428506 tn?1296560999 I have a few books on MS that talk about the use of tricyclic anti-depressants (ie; Elavil, Triavil) to treat paresthesias and dysethesia. My concern with starting an anti-depressant med would be the long list of side effects, and as you point out, the possibility that side effects might get confused with other symptoms and sidetrack the diagnostic process. The symptom of numbness is very hard to treat and in fact I don't know that there are any meds that really help with that.
449946 tn?1205493932 I was told my two doctors that I am suffering from Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and I would like to know what the symptoms are.
Avatar f tn Personally given what you say, I wouldn't be taking anything other than possibly a light anti-anxiety drug then. Anxiety about starting treatment and work stress hard to focus etc is much different than what SSRI"s are intended for...clinical depression. Clinical depression is a life altering serious disease that needs powerful medication to help with. The normal life stuff usually is not a reason to take one of these meds than can very often have serious sides and some long lasting..
Avatar m tn what if something like adrenal fatigue is causing my anxiety and I take anti anxiety medications that raise the serotonin levels in your brain !? I have many thoughts in my mind , I am getting crazy Has anyone had any experience like this before ? sorry for my bad English .
Avatar m tn My prescribing physician does not treat me with anti-anxiety medications. I do take diazepam once in a great while for severe muscle spasms as the usual "muscle relaxers" were not very effective for me. But that med is prescribed in addition to pain medications. It is not what I call a primary medication....just a "helping" one. The local clinics in my area are very reluctant to prescribe anxiety medications.
Avatar n tn I've been given Paxil ( praxitine ) to treat anxiety been on it for 8 days now today is really bad sweating hands feet, trembling, heart palls, breathing is an issue at times too . Could these meds actually be making me worse or is this part in parcel of taking antidepressants in the early stages ?
Avatar n tn Is there any medical reason for routinely denying patients anti-anxiety drugs prior to stereotactic core needle biopsy? I thought it was somewhat barbaric to go through the experience with the kind of terror it seems to cause EVERYONE who's ever had it. My radiologist simply didn't "entertain" the idea of tranquilizers, yet I'm reading about other patients who benefitted from them. Are the doctors truly so unaware of the extraordinary level of stress for their patients?
Avatar f tn I experience shortness of breath, near passing out and it takes me a long time to relax after these episodes happen. I haven't met with the EP yet but will next week. What are your thoughts on how to treat this? What would you do if it were you? I had an EP in December that they couldn't induce the SVT or anything else. Should I request another one? I haven't had an echo since 2006, should I ask for another one?
Avatar f tn 05mg Lorazepam for the unexpected anxiety attack. I have not had previous experience with anti-depressant medication. I have been taking the two every day medications for 3 days now and seem to notice that I'm a little fuzzy in the morning and am noticing some blurring of vision throughout the day. Too early to call the physician? Will the side effects lessen as I get used to the medication? Lastly, I hate taking pills for any reason, but especially for this.
Avatar f tn I did go to a therapist who dealt with chronic disease and went on anti depressants and anti anxiety meds. They did not hinder my MS diagnosis. I stayed in counseling awhile and am still on the medication. I also got over the fear or disability. I found worry is trying to control the future and you can't. Control is an illusion. Much of our lives are out of our control especially our health. I also learned that not every scenario of MS will happen.
Avatar n tn I asked my doctor this same question a few months ago and according to her. there are no anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drugs that are considered "safe" during pregnancy. Most of the "newer" medications are "Class C" drugs which means that the drug has been shown to damage the animal fetus but the impact on the human fetus is not known - lexapro, cymbalta, zoloft, and paxil all fit into this catergory.
3581773 tn?1349125510 SSRIs are the primary, first line medication used to treat anxiety (aside from the anti-anxiety meds, like Ativan, Xanax, Klomnopin, ertc). Zoloft, an SSRI is THE most commonly Rx'd med for anxiety disorders. Here's a good article to read:
Avatar n tn and i have pain 24/7 but am not a medicine taker. before reqesting medicine from my orthopedic surgeon i did research online about vioxx and celebrex. i saw online for myself that vioxx had a high number of heart problems in i went with celebrex. i never took the celebrex though as i am not a medicine taker. plus since i have moderate to severe mitral valve regurgitation i am reluctent to take any medicine that might effect my heart.
Avatar m tn that riba is some strong yes taking anti anxiety/anti depression/anti whatever it takes to get through treatment has been our approach! Giddy finishes his 48 weeks of daily infergen/riba in two weeks!! He is or has been on it all, right now his regimen is protonix for that churned up stomach feeling, compazine for the naseau, and lexapro for the "depression". We were told that valium is not liver friendly.
1138687 tn?1548647578 In your experience do they work, are they affective, or do you think they make your situation worse? I have this same question for anti-anxiety meds? The more oppinions the better! Thank you!
Avatar f tn Once clean though, I did find that I have a very high anxiety level which is probably something I was trying to treat subconciously with my doc....But with time and working a program I have been able to put safeguards in place to help me. It's been 90 days that you've been clean, so what are you doing for you to stay clean? What are you doing to work out the mental aspects of addiction? You've worked on the physical, so how about the mental?
Avatar n tn I must say I have nothing bad to say about anyone who takes pain medicine for a legitimate pain. But when one takes pain medicine to achieve euphoria - that is improper and dangerous way to deal with problems associated with work. If you all are so smart do some research on "euphoric recall". I have been trained in substance abuse. I see the damage this way of thinking does on a daily basis. This type of behaviour may be controllable now to a degree.
Avatar m tn About a month after my diagnosis i found out i haveHyperthyroidism which most likely was the cause to my anxiety symptoms. Well, i liked the sertraline at first but i now notice i'm exremely tired after taking the pill and i have problems "getting it up" and all the way!! This is my major concern!! can someone give me some insight or has anyone experienced something like this?
Avatar m tn i just haven't posted cause i didn't have any news. say a prayer for me as i have some anxiety , of course. but i am optimistic that evrything will be ok.
Avatar f tn My last posting was on if anyone had any experience with chinese medicine. Acupuncture and natural herbs. I found a MD, PHD chinese doctor in my area who is a specialist in immune disorders, hcv, cancer, people who are on chemo- interferon, I have been recieving acupuncture and herbs. He has an in clinic natural herb pharmacy, that he prescribes and mixes fresh herbs, He is the real deal with 21 yrs. in practice.
Avatar f tn They both affect the norepinephrine system-so they are both SNRI's as opposed to SSRI's. Effexor is also used to treat anxiety, general and social anxiety disorder and panic disorder with or without agoraphobia. Pristiq is only approved for major depression. Both can be very toxic is you drink alcohol with them. Alcohol with either can increase the risk for liver disease.
561921 tn?1216609221 A couple of anti-depressants that have some anti-anxiety properties and may treat, to some extent, panic attacks are listed below: Zoloft is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
Avatar n tn My daughter has been without lortab for 2 plus weeks, the problem now is the depression/anxiety that wont seem to go away. She now has asked to go to a doctor but she wants me to call ahead and talk to the nurse about her symptoms. Her fear is that he will some serious questions that will make her cry and turn into mush...She does not want to tell him about her lortab problem she is a nurse.
Avatar m tn I've been experiencing anxiety and feelings of panic that not even a LARGE dose of anti-anxiety medicine can seem to help. Is there a connection? I quit cold turkey, but it's been over a week now. If it is related, shouldn't the withdrawal and anxiety related to this be gone by now??? Help!
