222417 tn?1241567900 Namaste, You do not have to be off Anafranil prior to taking Celexa, although you should not be taking them together. Anafranil is one of the older forms of anti-depressant called a tricyclic, whereas Celexa is one of the newer SRRI's. Celexa is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by restoring the balance of serotonin, a natural occuring substance found in the brain, which helps to improve certain mood problems.
4548569 tn?1356296237 I have been taking 20 milligrams of generic Celexa for about 4 months to treat anxiety and depression. I was apprehensive to try Celexa because I had heard so many bad things about it. However, within a short time after taking it I noticed a huge improvement in both my depression and anxiety. I am very happy with the Celexa. One problem I am having though is that I have changed as a person and I suspect it is from the Celexa.
Avatar n tn And I do hope I start this tomorrow because I don't know how long I and my husband can go on without something. I was given an anti-anxiety pill if I should need them but try not to use them if I don't have to. I have also been having very weird dreams and sometimes nightmares. If I try to go for a walk my muscles tense up and sometimes can barely make it back home. I can only pray that this is all over soon.
Avatar f tn My doctor has advised me to use the klonopin until the anti. kicks in. I have been on 20mg of celexa now for a week and he would like me to go up to 30mg soon. Does anyone know how long it takes for this stuff to kick in, I'm just wondering if I should hold off with upping to 30mg for awhile and see if the 20 mg is enough. I hate feeling ansie all the time, and the klonopin does seem to help with that, but isn't it pretty addictive? My dr.
Avatar n tn a good 6 to 8 weeks to feel results. Most antidepressants take this long to kick in so switching drugs won't help. Also, celexa isn't known to help insomnia, but in time it does help the patient relax enough to sleep. Like many people that suffer from depression I too did suffer from insomnia, and the celexa has helped a great deal relaxing me to the point that I can sleep again. If she wants to up the dosage she should wait to talk to her doctor after 3 or 4 weeks.
Avatar n tn I am just now starting Celexa, prescribed by my doctor, since Paxil didn't work. He said that Celexa will help control my anxiety and nervousness. I thought though that Celexa was for depression? Will this drug REALLY help my anxiety and nervousness???
1243543 tn?1269127622 If someone can take a daily anti depressant why cant they take a daily anti anxiety med?I personally cant take antidepressants im to sensitive to their side effects and they make me worse than the horrible generalized anxiety that i already suffer so horribly everyday from or believe me i would take them and yes ive tried several and gave them all enough time to build up or do something besides make me 10 times worse.
Avatar f tn Yes its my first anti-de[ressant. I take a mood stablizer though, Abilify. Thank you for your post, it was really informative.
Avatar f tn I posted a similar question in the womens health forum but would appreciate the advice of you ladies too. Does anyone know if there are any anti-anxiety drugs that are acceptable to take while pregnant? Has anyone here had personal experience with this?
Avatar n tn In the meantime, if they are particularly awful, as you have described, you can ask your doctor to prescribe some quick acting anti-anxiety drugs to help you with this period.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed 20 mg of Paroxetine for anti anxiety, which is generic for Apotex I think. I took my first pill last night and had sweats all night and a severe stomach ache. Anybody taking anything that works and doesn't cause these sx. I'm in my 29th week of treatment, geno type 1.
3867523 tn?1348953285 He couldn't take Lexapro with triple tx w Incivek, so his hepatologist switched him to Celexa and it worked fine for him. The anger, irritability, anxiety, and/or depression that these drugs can cause is very real. Please tell your wife that I completely understand. I encourage you to take her with you to your next appt with your hepatologist, so she can share her concerns. That's what my hubby had me do, and I think it helped.
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Celexa because I have severe anxiety because of my PVC's and short runs of v-tach. I have a normal heart so my EP doctor says he is not overly concerned about the short runs of v-tach. He has stated that he thinks I have an abnormal response to my irregular beating. I don't do well on beta blockers or calcium channel blockers and don't want to go on anti-arrhythmic meds. Could you please tell me if you think this is a good choice of drug for anxiety due to arrhythmia?
Avatar f tn Personally given what you say, I wouldn't be taking anything other than possibly a light anti-anxiety drug then. Anxiety about starting treatment and work stress hard to focus etc is much different than what SSRI"s are intended for...clinical depression. Clinical depression is a life altering serious disease that needs powerful medication to help with. The normal life stuff usually is not a reason to take one of these meds than can very often have serious sides and some long lasting..
Avatar f tn It made my anxiety so bad that I wanted to die. I literally cried from the pain. The celexa did nothing for me. Anyway, the point of this post is to show everybody is different. SSRI's don't seem to work for me. I was recently put on Klonopin which is a benzo and it seems to be working. Perhaps you should try a similar medication? Yes, there is a risk of forming an addiction but I don't care. Anything is better then living the hellish life of anxiety. I am not giving up.

They check for gross abnormalities- like you can't lift up your leg or when they hit your reflexes with a hammer, your reflexes don't work. They have two more basic tests in their arsenel - the MRI with contrast and the EMG. EMGs need to be conducted by an excellent practioner for them to be worthwhile, and the MRI with contrast is an expensive procedure (i.e.
Avatar n tn How do you really avoid stress its everywhere. Is it normal to use antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs when you have v-tach?
Avatar n tn Six weeks ago, I began to have severe panic attacks, increased depression, and heavy anxiety. My doctor had me increase to 40mg celexa and added .5mg of ativan twice daily to help with the panic and anxiety until the celexa increase kicked in. After six and1/2 weeks I haven't noticed a big difference and I was wondering if the ativan is preventing the celexa from working properly.
358486 tn?1294779988 I was diagnosed with fibro a year ago but have had it for 12 years, and have been on celexa for yearS, it didnt help one thing! I switched to Cymbalta 60mg 4 weeks ago and have much less fatigue and anxiety. They are in the same family of anti-depressants SSRI which increase "feel good" hormones in your body, but i feel cymbalta works much better!! Im hoping to also start Lyrica as well. Let me know if you have any questions.
Avatar n tn He said that combining THC with the Celexa will cause extreme anxiety and progressively worse panic attacks in the future. Since I seem to always get multiple different answers from MY doctors on these matters, I decided it was time to ask an outside objective professional for the general lowdown. Thank you!
Avatar n tn You might ask your doctors for a short, simple trial of klonopin, which is an anti-anxiety drug, and could help you with some of the anxiety about your condition, and quiet things down for a while, and let your stomach heal.
Avatar m tn I don't want to take the chance to try the Celexa at a small dose of 1 mg and have the same kind of increase anxiety state like I had on the Paxil... Anyway, someone else have a severe panic disorder with a lot of cardiac related symptoms (Cardiophobia)? Witch one to choose and also what is the best time to take it? Morning, evening?... For the dose, start at 0.5 mg of Celexa or Paxil can maybe seem to be ridiculous, but if I increase it by 0.
Avatar f tn Hi "love!" I was on Celexa for depression and a bit of anxiety. It isn't in my experience at all addicting. It was one of the few psychiatric drugs I had a positive response to! My dad is a doctor as well and he has prescribed this to his patients as well. I also have several friends who have been on it. Haven't ever heard anything negative, yet. Best of luck to you! I hope it helps!

Avatar m tn he wasn't sure if I was showing signs of depression but thought it might help with the anxiety that was feeding my insomnia. My wife has used Celexa for years and it works well for her. No side effects at all and she's completely normal. So, I thought I'd give it a try. After 7 days at 20Mg I was all wound up, pacing the floor, heart palps - really terrible side effects. Worse than the sleeping pills. So I tapered off quickly 10Mg for 2 days then cold turkey.
Avatar m tn I was on Prozac for 8 weeks prior but had bad nausea and dizziness so my Dr switched me to Celexa. The psyhc Dr has diagnosed me with general anxiety and stress anxiety depression. I'm beginning to think that the cure is worse than the disease. Anyone else have problems with tiredness/fatigue and Celexa? Thx for your input, Thom.
Avatar n tn Went to get meds and thought I'd try something different to see if I could get rid of the fatigue I feel on zoloft. Ended up on Celexa. I've never had anxiety attacks except after major life events until a couple of months after starting the celexa. Had two major anxiety attacks--started shaking, etc. to the point where I almost couldn't walk. Finally wondered if the problem was the med.s and looked up the side effects on the internet--anxiety was one of them.
Avatar f tn I don't understand why because I have decent insurance. I hope if I do try Celexa that it works well for my anxiety but mainly I need a med that will not make my tremors bad. Thank you both for your help. I found the Zoloft to work at lowering my anxiety and depression but it made my tremor bad. I feel hopeless. I hope they all don't do that.
Avatar n tn 5 months ago, I went to the doctor for depression (which is not new for me, had it when I was younger as well) and got prescribed celexa. I have been feeling better with the celexa and half expected my need/desire for MJ to go away (or down) after being on it for a month. I am smoking just as much, and still drinking the same amount. Is this in any way a harmful combination? I have never felt sick/bad when doing them. Feels "normal.
