anxiety

Avatar m tn my question is that the combination of my drugs and alcohol is it creating some sort of serious problem like brain tumor or heart conditions...i think im functioning properly,my depression and anxiety and psychosis is under control for the last 3 years or so...
8442871 tn?1398141631 I should add, alcohol is also mostly sugar, so it sure isn't going to help weight loss in most cases. And if you're taking anti-anxiety medication, it doesn't mix with alcohol.
Avatar f tn it is dangerous to mix alcohol and anti depressants, he really needs to cut down the beer as it will seriously damage his organs, get him help
Avatar f tn I was 11 weeks (by the ultrasound). For the first 5 months of my pregnancy I used Alcohol and prescpibtion drugs to cope with my anxiety and depression ( this is not my way of making accuses for myself, I know what I did was and is wrong). My question is when they measured my baby when I was 11 weeks, is there any chance that the ultrasound could have been wrong about my due date due to the fact that I was using?
Avatar f tn Third, enzymes activated by chronic alcohol consumption transform some drugs into toxic chemicals that can damage the liver or other organs. Fourth, alcohol can magnify the inhibitory effects of sedative and narcotic drugs at their sites of action in the brain. To add to the complexity of these interactions, some drugs affect the metabolism of alcohol, thus altering its potential for intoxication and the adverse effects associated with alcohol consumption.
Avatar n tn He is probably frustrated and mad at himself but being sick and being dependent on alcohol to drown his pain.....why don't you try taking him for a walk, be more strict with him - hide the booze....I like to have a few drinks with Xanax too....it makes you very relaxed........but he shouldn't be abusing alcohol that's for sure!

Avatar n tn I have been on various forms of different anti-depressants which also help some anxiety. The longest medication I was on was Effexor XR for maybe 8 years. Over that time I developed an alcohol problem. Since then I quit alcohol without a problem, however, I am currently in the midst of a major depressive episode due to a break up of a relationship. I went off Effexor 6 months ago and my doctor put me on 150 mg of the Zoloft generic and also started me on Wellbutrin generic.
Avatar m tn I am a 22yr old female and have been taking 50 mg of zoloft for anxiety/panic attacks for id say atleast 5-7 yrs. something like that. Anyway i recently increased my dosage to 75 mg because the 50 has stopped doing its job. Just a little about me. Back to you, i'm not sure if the zoloft and alcohol cause liver damage or increase damage to your liver. However i do no this, i use to drink quite a bit, and i was having worst anxiety. It got really bad actually.
Avatar m tn First of all, you need to talk to your Dr. first. People are all different when it comes to medications. Sometimes Dr.s just prescribe an anti-depressant, others just prescribe a benzo (a mild tranquilizer type pill, aka: a chill pill) and some Dr.s prescribe both. It really depends on your type of anxiety. Now, to answer your question about the "least addictive" part. Benzos can be addictive. Physically and Mentally. But when used correctly, and prescribed by a Dr.
Avatar m tn Did you take any anti anxiety meds or anti depressants? I have the exact same symptoms as you, with some others. After dozens of tests over the period of a year, I think it's a side effect and withdrawal symptoms of these horrible drugs.
Avatar m tn 3) Eat healthy foods and stay away from alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, illegal drugs, and excessive amounts of sugar. If you do this, your body will thank you. As for the alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and sugar--you don't have to cut these out of your life forever, just until you get better. However, I would steer clear of nicotine. 4) Avoid stress like the plague (easier said than done).
1476999 tn?1287247477 My question is can alcohol cause and antidepressant to stop working? I have been having feelings of anxiety and feeling down for about the last week. I'm 47 years old, could my feelings be coming from menopause? I don't know if I'm really going through that yet. I really want to feel like my good old self again, I've got 2 small children to raise.
1450085 tn?1298941702 (which i wud much rather prefer the label of that than a cocaine/mdma induced one- if i have it) i remember this summer at least twice i wud get a panic attack after drinking (never happened before- and just drinking no drugs) i spoke to some old family friends who had their days with drugs and alco and they all said i just need to 'dry out'. what do you guys think?
Avatar f tn Alcohol is a depressant and causes the pupils to constrict. This is also true with opiate drugs, and benzo anti-anxiety drugs. NOT dilate. Dilate is when the pupils get bigger. Upper drugs will cause this dilation such as cocaine, meth, e, and hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD. The easiest method for Police to check if a person is intoxicated at a checkstop is to shine a flashlight in the eyes of the person to check there pupils and whether or not their eyes react to the light.
Avatar n tn No disrespect, but this is one of the more absurd questions I have read. You are on an anti-depressant (lexapro) and consuming alcohol, a CNS depressant, AND taking another mind-numbing substance (Vicodin). You should be taking Lexapro ONLY to deal with depression or whatever reason you are taking it. Both other meds are contraindicated for Lexapro. Smarten up.
Avatar m tn Okay, now I think I know what you are taking, sertraline, which in the states is Zoloft. Plus your Xanax equivalent. These are medications that are often prescribed for OCD, anxiety, depression. The sertraline can have side effects. What are you feeling like? I don't want to list side affects because I don't want you to start looking for particular one. :) How much Sertraline are you taking and how much alprazolam do you take during the day?
Avatar m tn I just found out he has been self medicating himself since he was 12 by stealing initially hydrocodone, zanax and whatever he could find to help his anxiety. He also did it to get high. He smokes weed several times a day and takes the pills (either he snorts or drops whatever into water and drinks it) and he says having a beer helps him "slow" down.
404138 tn?1308941656 thanks cathy, I would consider AA except its primarily the anxiety thats the problem and the alcohol only adds to it, I guess you can say im a functioning alcoholic when I give in to it, but when Im strong and can handle the anxiety I dont touch it at all, so Im addicted when it comes to calming my nerves but I dont feel 100% dependent upon it, there are many days I push myself not to touch it and I succeed...Im really only working on getting rid of the anxiety...
Avatar f tn Yes I found out I was pregnant at 7 weeks I was getting drunk everyday and smoking weed taking pills and doing coke im 18 and have been threw alot and seen alot I lost my way in life for a while now im 33 weeks and my son is doing amazing
Avatar n tn I took sports as an outlet for fun and hung out with my friends and managed to never put myself in danger by doing drugs or alcohol. It takes real inner strength, self-control and a real deep sense of contentment with who you ARE -- you don't have to prove anything to anyone. I would challenge you to think this over and make the smart decision in order to protect yourself.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been with my bf for almost 2 months now.. He tells me that he has BP disorder and that he has a hard time staying off the alcohol and drugs (weed & pills).. He takes Symbyax and Prozac from my understanding. I really dont think he takes it like he should.. I was wondering if this is a common problem? I am new at this and dont know very much about the problems that he has. I am trying very hard to stick by his side and work through all this.
Avatar m tn I have suffered depression all of my life, feeling sad as far back into childhood as I can remember. I spent many, many years self-medicating (alcohol+drugs). I know for me, I have tried 16 different anti-depressants and other than the ones that gave me severe nausea and the ones that made me feel like a walking Zombie (Effexor, Seroquel and Olanzapine), the others did nothing.
Avatar f tn Both valium and alcohol are anti-anxiety drugs. The official line is not to take them together, because of the possibility of respiratory depression. While not recommended, 5 mg and a drink won't endanger your life.
Avatar f tn R. finally and they told me it was a panic attack. This is before I was using drugs and alcohol strongly, but I quit smoking cigarettes, using any drugs, and alcohol, yet I still felt this way often. Nothing changed and I started my habits up again. It feels like I dry swallowed a pill (feeling in my throat) and sometimes my eyes start being weird and I see lights, as if I had just looked at the sun or a light for a minute.
457721 tn?1256640798 I am 23 years old and currently on Paxil 20mg a day for depression, OCD, and anxiety/panic disorder. I have always had a problem with anxiety...but the depression has been in the past three years and the OCD more recently. I am about to finish my first month of the medicine and then I am supposed to up to 30mg a day since the anxiety is not getting any better. In the past month I have found that I have a HUGE desire to drink. ALL DAY LONG. I have NEVER been a big drinker....
Avatar m tn Drug interactions with alcohol can certainly kill you, or your liver, of course, if you take prescriptions, and many anti-anxiety medications stop working when you consume alcohol, which, combined with the depressive nature of alcohol, can really mess with your body and your anxiety. I don't take meds for my anxiety, and when I start to metabolize the alcohol a few hours after drinking, I tend to get irritable and anxious.
