554703 tn?1227497870 I never had an eating disorder per say, but years ago during a hard time with my Ex-husband, I didn't eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa.

Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar m tn Hi about three or so years ago I went through a long period of anorexia nervosa, I was checking labels, eating barely any fat foods, always feeling terrible if i aint something unhealthy, and on top of that running 10 miles and working out every day because I thought i was fat. Once then period ended, I immediately began to binge eat at every meal, and would get incredibly bloated and distended (pregnant).
Avatar m tn can anorexia cause pain all over the body? along with dizziiness and sharp eye pain?
Avatar n tn When children do not eat for awhile, they cry because they are hungry. Symptoms of anorexia is hair loss (lots of it), development of peach like body hair, bad teeth, emotional problems, stomach problems, heart problems, etc. She needs help. She will intitially be upset about it, but eventually she will get over it.
Avatar n tn If you are below that, yes you can get some serious problems from being underweight -- malnourishment, which can cause anemia, vitamin deficiencies, which can affect your heart and your reproductive organs. If you have a problem with anorexia you can die from complications because left untreated it will affect your internal organs. If it isn't anorexia and you can't gain weight you need to see a gastroenterologist to see if you may have a malabsorption issue or some other issue.
Avatar m tn ll ask you this- before you lost weight, were you depressed, abused, or have any mental illnesses (personality disorders etc)? Because what anorexia s essentially is a coping mechanism. People who suffer with mental illness or who've had lots of trauma use it as a way to feel better or numb it out or even so they're "good at at least something", stuff like that. If you just lost control over your diet then that's more "diet gone wrong".
Avatar n tn When you say that she displays many symptoms of anorexia (in spite of eating three meals/day), what do you mean? What are the symptoms you are noticing?
Avatar f tn I have a 13 year old daughter who's behavior has changed dramatically in the past few months. She's always done extremely well academically and has mantained straight A's since she began school. However, her grades have dropped drastically to the point where she is getting D's, C's, and even F's. Her teachers are very concerned, as am I, about this sudden drop in performance. Also, my daughter's eating habits have changed.
Avatar n tn Many of the physical symptoms of anorexia are basically malnutrition. So yes, if you were skipping any specific food group or not having enough calories, fat, protein, veggies, fruits, etc it's very possible you had malnutrition. While it's good to be physically active you cannot burn what you do not eat- so your body finds it else where. This can be fine to a point- but even someone who has a lot of fat needed to burn- still needs a basic imput to keep a body healthy and functional.
15146534 tn?1438723243 Straight to the point: How far underweight is a person when they are hospitalized for anorexia typically? I would like to avoid that ever happening. Im 19. 5'6 and use to weigh 130. But now I'm 108. Its hard for me to admit I have anorexia, because I just don't think I'm bad enough... My doctors took note the other month that was was loosing weight and underweight, and she knows I have an ED. But luckily she didn't worry much.
Avatar m tn It’s best not to force food down the throat of a person with anorexia. It is best to get medical help. If person eats less then protein and carbohydrate shakes can be given. Meat and vegetables can be pureed. Egg can be beaten into milk. The treatment involves various types of behavior therapies, nutritional guidance, medications to control hunger, food satiety, and exercise and yoga. Please consult a good psychologist/psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders. Take care!

Avatar f tn she hazards her life by thinking she is to fat or somethings like that must be the reason. so anorexia is a mental disorder. it's not like you give her a burger and the problem is gone. she has to accept her body and see her faults. she is too thin. but maybe she thinks she is still fat. the only thing that you can do in this situaion is to give her a bit support, like going out with her but also taking her to the therapys. only doctors and specialists can help her.
Avatar f tn And finally, mental hospitals sound scary. But they really are not. I was forced to go to our local mental hospital almost two years ago and i was scared ******** but it really helped me a lot! For the first time i met people who were my age struggling with the same problems that i was. And the thing i hated the most was not being able to go outside for a week which really isn't that bad.
Avatar f tn I have had anorexia for about 3 years now but am in recovery. For a while now I have still been having stomach pains. They are right below my rib cage or even farther up. It feels like stinging and wakes me up now at night sometimes. It usually gets worse when I haven't eaten like I should. Also, I have been having sweats even though no one else in the room is hot. It is like dripping sweat. I have gained weight so I'm 5'8" and 120 and trying to get to 125.
Avatar f tn Your saying you dont have a psychological condition but I think even you would agree that you are quite anxious about your health and you are dealing with anorexia with add on bulimia, all of which have a psychological component and not so easy to ignore in your overall picture.
Avatar f tn Yes, that is what it is. You are showing anorexic symptoms and it will only get worse. Talk to a counselor at school, your doctor, or another trusted adult and have them refer you to a therapist experienced with eating disorders. Your ED is related to how you feel about yourself and you need help working through both so you can go on to live a good life. Please do it soon.
