Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia symptoms bmi

anorexia

Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.

Avatar f tn BMI is a useful way to determine a healthy weight. You can find a BMI calculator and other tools for determining a healthy weight on the CDC or NIH web sits. But healthy weight is only part of recovery, as I'm sure you know. I hope you're working on the other aspects, from good nutrition to the mental side of EDs and monitoring for anorexia sequalae.
Avatar n tn I am 28 and have had an eating disorder for several years. I now want to start trying for a baby, but I'm worried about my fertility and capability to fall pregnant. I am trying to put on some weight and have put on a few kilos but still haven't got my periods back (I haven't had one for 2 years- which is when I stopped taking the pill to see if I would menstrate normally). Is there any way to know if I'm still fertile (as terrifying as that question is)?
Avatar m tn Actually you're not. The adequacy of your weight for your height is calculated by your bmi or body mass index. It's basically weight in.kg divided by the square of height in meters. Accordingly you are 23.5 and you're doing ok.Maybe you just need to get fit.
18663 tn?1198171815 The signs you are reporting are all possible symptoms of anorexia such as, rapid weight loss, intense fear of getting fat, being less than 85% of ideal body weight; distorted body image, restrictive eating, possible purging (through vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, excessive exercise).
Avatar n tn hi im 18 and 5 foot 7. i only weigh 7stone and my bmi is 15.3. i would just like 2 know how serious this is and if its risking my health.
Avatar n tn i am 27 and have suffered with anorexia for eight years, i have been at a stable weight now for over a year, my bmi now stands at around 18 and is calculated every month by my nurse. i desperately want to get pregnant but havn't had a natural period for over six years, i have recently come off my contraceptive pill, purely to find out if my body would kick start itself with no chemical influence, but no luck. what do i do now? could i ever carry a child? and will i ever have a period again?
Avatar f tn Should you count calories or just eat what your body tells you? I didn't count calories before, I'm scared that STARTING during recovery will make me obsessed. But I worry If I don't, I won't be eating enough. My plan is just to generally eat more until I see the scales climb at a rate of around 1-2lb a week until I reach a bmi of 19-20, Then I'll stop and maintain intuitively. Is this a good idea?
Avatar f tn d pretty much missed two already. I got scared and checked online. Immediately, the red light of ANOREXIA NERVOSA began flashing everywhere. I panicked. It took me almost no time to tell myself to stop exercising and add some weight. I've improved my diet, eat a lot, attempt to squeeze as much fat into my diet as possible. My BMI is not too bad: 17.5-17.7 right now. This "recovery" has been going on for a week. What really scares me is not getting my period back.
Avatar m tn s not that then hopefully you can find a healthy way to diet! Also, in order to be diagnosed with anorexia, you have to have a BMI of I think 17.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/anorexia-nervosa/mental-health-anorexia-nervosa#1. Diagnosis of eating disorders requires you to step outside of it and ask for help. The best place to start may be to have a physical and express your eating practices and concerns over your weight at that time. If your physician agrees you have an unhealth relationship with food, they may suggest the next step for help.
687561 tn?1238400426 I consider myself a recovering anorexic. I am 22 and I spent nearly 4 months in a facility to help me overcome my eating/weight issues. I'm honest about everything... I know I still have a long mountain to climb as far as becoming completely healthy but I am really working on myself and I am following a healthy Raw Food diet and I exercise everyday. I love babies and children and I always dreamt that someday I'd be a mom... but I have NEVER had a period.
Avatar f tn Can someone give me some advice to overcome 'anorexia'(that what my doctor says). I guess you can say im jealous of my big brother because he can eat anything without getting fat. Which is really annoying since I always watch what I eat and I still am fat. My big brother is 17 and he 6,4 and only weighs 122 pounds. Im 15 and 5,5 and weigh 92.5 pounds. And believe me when I say my brother doesn't have a eating disorder.
5393281 tn?1371094461 I have read about magnesium. And the symptoms that you describe could possibly be that your body is too low on magnesium. Anaemia will also cause lack of appetite. I do not know what the recommended dosage would be for you to take magnesium supplements, but as you are not eating enough, your body is not absorbing all the vitamins and minerals it requires to keep healthy.
Avatar n tn It delves far deeper than the two above it. Are you under weight? Or at a healthy weight and under eating significantly? Do you have any other kind of non-diet related HPA-Axis disruption? Lots and lots of studies out there on cholesterol and anorexia. Buuut there are also lots of studies re: huh "bad" cholesterol just from a partial fast diet (i.e. Eating 1500 calories) out there on NCBI.
Avatar f tn Does anybody feel this way. I am literally alone. I don't have physical contact with the world. I talk to nobody. I'm alone always in my flat unless I need to do errand or go doctors appointments... I want to die. I've wanted to die for so long. I have anorexia - actually I'm not sure but they tell me I am anorexic - low weight low bmi etc etc etc ... I don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn I am severely underweight due to intestinal ulcer and i have a BMI of only 13 .
3180868 tn?1344521798 I know that you can gave the anorexia mindset despite your BMI but textbook diagnosis with your psyc/MD you have to have a certain BMI. Mine is 20.5 I would have to be around 18. Until then they diagnose me with EDNOS with anorexic symptoms. I also do know how badly your brain body etc need the nutrients. Despite my disorder I am actually very well educated about health..
Avatar m tn Orthorexia nervosa is a sister disease of anorexia (i looked it up). it says that a person stops eating several nutritional factors because they think it is bad for them. it is progressing, mostly starting with not eating nutrion that has fat or glucose in them. I was wondering if anybody here has heard or knows anyone with this condition (better explanation on wikipedia). And I am wondering where i can check if she might use pills to stimulate diarhea.
1379808 tn?1279327710 m a 16 year old girl) so my BMI is like 20 or something. Anyways my mother has terrible eating habits she eats basically nothing and I have adapteded to this the only difference is I am replacing food with non-nutrious objects such as plastic, paper, cardboard ect. I just don't know what to do to stop this I don't wanna bring my self to eating because I don't wanna put on weight but I wan't to stop this because I'm scared the chemicals might hurt my body.
Avatar n tn Hi i am an 18 year old girl roughly 5ft10 to 5ft11 and my bmi is within normal range. I really hate my body but i've never really had any problems with eating in the past except becoming ectreemly intolerrent to nuts over night lol Recently i have become very obsessed with calories and its never bothered me before. I am currently consuming on average 460 calories a day. I know this is bad and i know the risks so i don't know why i am doing this !!!
Avatar n tn When you say that she displays many symptoms of anorexia (in spite of eating three meals/day), what do you mean? What are the symptoms you are noticing?
Avatar f tn my period has stopped and im scared that i have anorexia. im really trying to eat more and gain weight but i havent been very successful. any tips on how i can be healthier? and when do you think my period will come back?
3058654 tn?1340500646 I think I may be anorexic. I am 5'4 and weigh 100 lbs. People constantly look at me and say things like you are so skinny and some people even say I look sick. I don't think I am that skinny honestly. I did lose 15 lbs after my husband left for Korea 9 months ago, I think that was partially because I miss him but mainly because I know he is unhappy with my body. I would binge eat a couple of days then for the next 4-5 days I would hardly eat at all. I would also exercise a lot.
