Avatar f tn I think with a nutrionist, a meal plan, an excersise plan, and a theripist that specializes in eating disorders you can RECOVER. I understand that your afraid by eating again, and not vommiting that you'll gain weight, and try to understand if your underweight you will gain some weight to be healthy. A meal plan may also make you initally gain weigh but in the long term you will loose that weight if you stay commited to your meal plan, and moderated excersise.
Avatar n tn At 5’2” and 78 lbs, your BMI is 14.3. The American Psychiatric Association Guidelines for Eating Disorders, 3rd Edition would say you need to be hospitalized for treatment. To learn more about anorexia and treatment levels of care, visit the bella vita website. Best, Dr.
4742865 tn?1358632836 Also, please consult a psychologist dealing with eating disorders. Controlling this eating disorder along with exercise, and eating right and treating any medical problem that you may have can help you lose weight effectively. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
6811971 tn?1385557755 I suffered from Anorexia for six years of my life and have been recovered for twelve years now. For me, I experienced some gas and bloating. This can be quite stressful as it makes one feel full and gaining weight. I found that mixing some natural ginger in a tea or water helped. Also, digestion was a little slow for me. To help that along, I used papaya and pineapple. They both contain digestive enzymes called papain and bromelain respectively.
Avatar m tn I have been weight restored for almost a year and I never miss a meal. I had anorexia for years, but like I said, it is absolutely not present anymore! But, I am struggling quite a bit with depression. I have researched a lot about various deficiencies, mainly serotonin and dopamine. I have found that I have low dopamine, and I would really like to try Wellbutrin as it seems to work wonders for major depression.
931175 tn?1244457804 Stress management tools, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and/or medication could help. Anorexia can be life threatening. To learn more about eating disorders, visit the bella vita website. There is also a free survey to screen for an eating disorder.
Avatar f tn "Why" is never a simple question when it comes to eating disorders. Eating disorders have many causes, some of them related to ideas and feelings about food and body weight, some of them having to do with other feelings and moods and ideas. What is important right now is not "why" so much as getting help. Neither bulimia or compulsive overeating are manifested with low body weight. Most bulimics have normal weight or a bit over.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 13 and I am 5'3 and I weigh 107 and I suffer from anorexia, NOBODY KNOWS, and I ate only one meal a day for the past week and sometimes nothing at all, I passed out in the kitchen a few minuets ago and I was only out for like 5 seconds and I ate a sandwich, I still am hungry I can't eat I feel too guilty. My family doesn't understand anything about eating disorders so I never said anything.
918035 tn?1274644533 I myself have 15 years recovery from an Eating Disorder; not Anorexia, but I have spoken with many people who have longterm recovery from that as well. Over time, your symptoms will get less and less frequent and when you are in recovery if something upsets you you will think about restricting, but will have other tools to handle your feelings. I think it is very much important for you to receive treatment for your Anorexia because it is very very hard to do it on your own.
Avatar f tn I was lucky to have such an amazing dietitian, who had experience in treating eating disorders and completed her internship at an eating disorder clinic. During my treatment, the nurses were trying and pressuring me to eat more and it made me worse. My Dietitian put a stop to that and set realistic eating goals that I felt comfortable obtaining. It was very gradual. I will give you this important piece of advice: get to the root of the eating disorder.
1223598 tn?1289968459 Okay, this community has been helpful to me in my recovery, I am grateful for Zoe responding to my first question at the beginning of my recovery from Anorexia, Bulimia and Over exercising for 11 years. I am fighting strong this time, so far I am doing awesome. I have never come this far in my life, and i know i am going to make it this time. I am going to overcome it all.
Avatar f tn I'm 14 and i've been suffering from Anorexia & Bulimia for a little over a year now. As much as i don't like eating, due to the disorders, i still wanna keep as healthy as i can. I do eat things i think are safe at times that appeal to me..i was wondering if there are any healthy low calorie foods you recommend? The more food i feel comfortable eating the more i will recover.
1207078 tn?1265825982 m glad you posted here. Unfortunately binge eating and anorexia are like different sides of the same coin. You have an eating disorder. The good news is you CAN become a "normal teenage girl" and get recovery from your eating disorder. The problem though is it's not something that can be achieved easily with "tips" or "tricks". Eating disorders are complicated and have many causes.
937868 tn?1570328281 Have hope! Your daughter is young. She has her life ahead of her. I'm delighted to hear you are supporting her to get help at her young age. Eating disorders are complex. They have a biological/genetic, psychological, social and spiritual component to them. I've personally have a history of anorexia from 11-15 and have treated eating disorders for 28 years. I am recovered; and I have seen many recover over the years. It may take some time.
Avatar n tn Is anyone out there a binge eater that would like to get into contact to help recovery? I've had eating disorders for the past 10 years...anorexia, bulimia, recovered on my own for a bit, but now after starting a career and having more stress in my life, I'm not normal anymore. I binge. I went on topamax for a bit and this helped but didn't like the weird side effects and I know I can't rely on drugs my whole life. I'm 26 and just want to be normal with food.

1612312 tn?1324791860 When we eat in a way that is good for us we feel good about it is easier to talk back to our eating disorders. Finding a healthy meal plan also keeps you from the dreaded binge/starve/binge cycle. While exercise is great, keep an eye on it. If you are worried about your recovery keep it limited to classes you enjoy. I like to attend hour long zumba classes 2-3x a week. I try and focus on making exercise fun and social so my eating disorder doesn't take over. I hope this helps.

1246367 tn?1271225330 You sound like you are really struggling with your issues and hanging on by your teeth. Food is not the enemy. Planning, cooking and eating healthy and satisfying meals is part of recovery. Are you completely off sugar? Sugar is very addictive and until you have at least a month completely off, you will crave it. For many people, white flour specifically and carbs in general can also be addictive so try and limit these things and eat fresh vegies, fruits, and protein.
5613711 tn?1370974671 I can understand your confusion around this issue as eating disorders is a complex disorder. Eating disorders can look many different ways including the symptom of over-exercising. How do you feel when you don’t exercise? Is it hard to tolerate? Do you feel like you NEED to exercise? The answers to these questions can give you some clue as to whether there is a dependency issue there. You say you were diagnosed with anorexia when you were 13 and you received no treatment.
1479003 tn?1287429481 Ask your doctor for a referral to a therapist who works with eating disorders and start working on your issues. Since you suffer anxiety as well, the therapist may recommend some medication. You might also try going to meetings of OA, look in the phonebook under Overeater's Anonymous; it is for all kinds of eating disorders and there are meetings in all large towns. Best of luck to you, and good for you for recognizing you need help!
1379808 tn?1279327710 m sorry but there is no doctor on this forum, just other people who have dealt with eating disorders. I can hear that you are very stressed by your eating and weight. I strongly recommend you get a referral to a therapist experienced with eating disorders. Unfortunately they tend to get worse with time not better, but you are young enough that with the proper treatment you could get into recovery. Best of luck to you! Life doesn't have to be such a struggle.
