Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia recovery gaining weight

anorexia

Avatar n tn Hello there, I have been battling various forms of Anorexia/Bulimia since my mid teens and now I am 26 years old. I am about 5'2 and weight around 78lbs. I am in the care of a physician and a therapist, yet I still feel a little lost on how to get started on my recovery, with what to eat, how much, etc. I think this is because I haven't eaten normally in so long my body doesn't know how to tell me what it really needs or when its had enough or not enough.
Avatar f tn It´s also weird because I have no team to direct me, and my body started gaining weight all on it´s own, even before I upped my cals. So does my calorie intake still matter, or can I just eat intuitively now?
Avatar n tn Anorexia is an eating disorder where the victim refuses to eat in the fear of gaining weight. They see themselves as being overly fat, when really they are just underweight. The victim may sometimes purge if forced to eat. A person with Anorexia cannot cope with it themselves. They require counsling and doctors to help them through it. There is always recovery though. I have a friend right now that is suffering from Anorexia Nervosa.
Avatar n tn From anorexia to bulima the bast 5 years my head is spinning from gaining and losing 20kg each way. I'm eating soo much and binge all the time. I try to get help, i'm seeing a psychologist but can only afford 2 times a month and isn't helping because sometimes goes to once a month. I'm a dissapointment and trying so hard to get back on track.
Avatar f tn I would like to get some kind of information on a healthy way of gaining some weight. I would like to put on at least 8 pounds.
Avatar f tn I eat healthy igot to the gym 4days a week and im gaining weight not too much but im 5'2 and weighed 163 before iwas pregnant but my dr said my weight gain is fine.
687561 tn?1238400426 Thanks. I appreciate your input... I know that I need to gain some weight but isn't there anything I can do to make my period come now that I have gained enough to have a bmi of 16? Aren't there any natural things I can take to help? Someone on here recommended taking "the pill"... will that work? I am really scared that I am going to do all this work to gain 13 lbs and then nothing is going to happen and I'll just remain infertile - I need to know if this is an option.
Avatar f tn s good that you realized what was going on! i also lost my period when i lost weight. even after gaining weight back, it still took some time for my period to come back. so if you're eating right and not putting too much stress on your body from extreme work outs, then i am sure it will come back very soon considering it wasn't gone for long.
Avatar m tn t mention your weight, you do mention severely restricting your food which is a hallmark sign of Anorexia as well as your fear of gaining any weight. Please understand that Anorexia can be very serious and lead to eventual death if not dealt with. 6811971 tn?1385557755 This can be quite stressful as it makes one feel full and gaining weight. I found that mixing some natural ginger in a tea or water helped. Also, digestion was a little slow for me. To help that along, I used papaya and pineapple. They both contain digestive enzymes called papain and bromelain respectively. This helps particularly to digest proteins and I still use it after a meal sometimes.

Avatar f tn I have been in a nasty cycle of restrictive and purging behaviour since I was around 13, but in the past two years I have been primarily restricting, resulting in my weight dropping significantly. It has taken over my life...a bittersweet existance where I now hate the eating disorder, yet cannot live without it. My friends do not know the severity of my condition as I am embarrassed. My family force me to eat...they make it sound easy.
1496456 tn?1288877552 Talk to a Certified Personal Trainer. They can help with adding lots of protein to your diet, healthy calories, and weight gaining protein shakes and lifting weights. Stay away from cardio. Make sure you are ok physically , that something isn't keeping you from gaining otherwise the above shoudl do the trick.
Avatar f tn t eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight. Though technically, part of the clinical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa is losing 15 percent or more of what your normal body weight should be, you do not need to be super thin in order to have an eating disorder. Most of what an eating disorder, such as Anorexia, consists of is the emotional/mental aspect..
Avatar m tn She cycles to work, works 3-4 jobs and manages to find time to workout or swim 1-2 times a day plus consumin considerable amounts of water and eating light meals here and there. I believe these habits contribute to her insecurity of gaining weight. My first instinct was to coach her to eat more regularly and implement more carbs no I'm trying to have the right food groups she needs and enjoys available at her convenience with hopes that she will eat.
Avatar f tn The Eating disorder has nothing to do with Your weight it should not go on Your current weight, overweight people and people at a normal weight can be anorexic and bulimic and have other eating disorders while someone underweight can experience overeating. I understand what You're saying about doctors sometimes not knowing it but it is not right perhaps try finding a therapist You're able to talk to who recognizes the problems You're having.
Avatar f tn So I'm a 16 year old girl, about 5'5' and 110lbs. I'm on a calorie restricting diet and exercising a lot to lose weight. My family doesn't know and I can't talk to them about it due to circumstances i cannot discuss. My one friend who knows about this tells me I'm on the verge of anorexia and people at school are talking about me saying how skinny I'm getting. When people originally told me this I took it as a compliment, now I find it embarrassing.
2215229 tn?1339342648 s because of past trauma or self loathing and depression and you need to deal with that before even thinking of recovery. Recovery is impossible without tackling why you had the ED in the first place, what you were trying to use it to.cope with. Therapy. Very important.
Avatar f tn People who suffer from anorexia nervosa end up having such a vicious cycle of weight gain and weight loss weight gain and weight loss. This is called the binge fasting dangerous dieting (I read it in the book)...from what I notice about my eating disorder is that my eating disorder will make me binge at a certain point so that eventually I won't ever eat again and I'll be sooooo pissed off at food that I'll end up starving myself again. Trust me...
Avatar f tn I've had anorexia nervosafor almost three years, and I'm in recovery. Is it possible to gain 5 lbs in 3 days? I was not stuffing my face or sitting on my ***, I'm just hoping the scale was off because this is giving me a lot of anxiety.
Avatar f tn Don't worry, weight gain can be a sign that you are recovering! I gained 15 lbs in the beginning of my recovery from bulimia and then as I started eating meals and snacks regularly (that I figured out with my nutritionists help) and stopped using bulimic symptoms my weight balanced out to my body's needs.
Avatar f tn I used to get accused of this all the time. Except I was 5'4" and 100 lbs. Believe me, my super skinny days are over, but as a teenager I used to get accused of anorexia all the time. Here's the main thing: are you obsessed with not gaining weight? Do you think about food 24/7? If the answer is no, you're fine.
Avatar f tn resulted in my gaining too much weight too fast (I left an inpatient program for anorexia in February)..I have been battling edema, my muscles and joints hurt, I have problems digesting food (spontaneous reflux)....it's as if my body has forgetten how to respond to food properly, refuses to believe I am finally feeding it over 500 kcals/day, and chooses to store all "fuel" received into water and fat reserves. I too wonder if there are insulin..
1347708 tn?1276603191 Can someone please help me with ways to maintain my weight, i am terrified of gaining, but I do recognise I have problems. I am not asking for ways to lose more, just staying the same. Anyone?
Avatar f tn ve been doing well with my recovery the last three years. However, I still monitor my weight closely. Last summer I was feeling fatigued, I went to the Dr. and had bloodwork done. I was anemic and my TSH was normal at 2.9. I started a course of iron supplements and was feeling better until the beginning of March. Suddenly my weight started creeping up despite my careful diet an exercise regime. I also started to feel very tired again, but my iron levels are normal now.
