Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia nervosa kill you

anorexia

Avatar f tn Well, I had anorexia for quite awhile so I can probably answer any questions you have.. The questions you asked in your post are kind of basic, so I can't give very detailed answers but... Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason.
Avatar f tn However, in my 28 year of clinical experience, I understand it as a subset of Anorexia Nervosa. This is my professional opinion. The underlying dynamics are quite similar to what we have seen in anorexia for years. It's only in the recent years as our society has focused on pure, organic, and raw foods has this new obessive compulsive form of restriction emerged and is has now been coined orthorexia.
179856 tn?1333547362 t know anything about Portia. I had no idea she suffered from anorexia nervosa. I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.
Avatar f tn I understand that you do not feel you want help. And that you do not feel you are worthy of food, of being loved, and of deserving support. And these are the very reasons for you to reach out for help. Your screen name: “Stop hate, start love” is perfect for you. Stop hating yourself; start loving yourself. It begins with you. Wishing you’ll ask for help even though you don’t feel like it!
Avatar f tn I tend to be the same as leftcoastchick - doctor is the person you need, I know anorexia needs serious help and counselling but id also wonder if it is anorexia which has fairly specific symptoms and behaviours as opposed to not eating which is indeed possibly an attempt at suicide. Is the person physically ill?
Avatar f tn How many times do you have to puke yourself to be considered bulimic? Does anorexia or bulimia cause hair loss? And is there any possible way that any of this could cause my hands to shake?
Avatar m tn Are you still here? I dont want to post anything, and you dont frequent here anymore (since the post is pretty old). Let me know ok.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/anorexia-nervosa/mental-health-anorexia-nervosa#1. Diagnosis of eating disorders requires you to step outside of it and ask for help. The best place to start may be to have a physical and express your eating practices and concerns over your weight at that time. If your physician agrees you have an unhealth relationship with food, they may suggest the next step for help.
Avatar f tn Dear littleem, Do not blame yourself for your PCOS. Research shows that females diagnosed with anorexia nervosa had their polycystic ovary disease symptoms prior to weight loss. Their body mass index was higher when their menses stopped. In addition, their LH and estrogen levels were higher than those adolescents with anorexia only. PCOS occurs in 10% of females during reproductive age. The cause is still unknown. For more information about anorexia, visit the bella vita website. Dr.
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?

Avatar n tn I have a friend right now that is suffering from Anorexia Nervosa. She is at the state where she is in need of immediate medical attention, and i am fighting for that right now. She is only 5 feet tall, 17 years old and wieghs only 69 pounds. She was never really fat, but that is how she sees herself because of a disorder called body dysmorphia. I hope I at least helped a little with your question.
Avatar m tn Celexa is used to treat depression. This drug is also used to treat eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa) and other mental conditions (obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder). All the other medications you mentioned are from the same family(SSRI's).
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, feel depressed a lot of the time and cut regularly. I go for therapy with the NHS but I still feel terrible. Does anyone know how I can start to feel better?
554703 tn?1227497870 I never had an eating disorder per say, but years ago during a hard time with my Ex-husband, I didn't eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa.
Avatar n tn Ok so my girlfriend has what has been classified as anorexia nervosa by her doctors that was much worse in the past than it is now. She has raised her calorie intake but she is afraid to bring it up to completely normal levels. Right now she is at a healthy body weight but she would still like to lose some pounds.
Avatar f tn it sounds like you have anorexia nervosa b/p, but i am not a doctor and you should really see one so you can get better. long term purging has terrible effects on your body, everything from sore throats to cardiac arrest.
Avatar f tn etc..you might consider counseling in the near future if you continue to have anorexia nervosa..good luck..
Avatar n tn There are many other causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
Avatar f tn I am 14 years old, and I am developing anorexia nervosa. DO NOT starve yourself, it can lead to anorexia which I can tell you will take over your life. I understand the pressure to be pretty/perfect/thin. It is a hard thing to deal with psychologically. Try to eat health, but make sure that you are getting a health amount of calories- again, don't starve yourself. Try to exercise 20 minutes a day, and as time goes by ramp up the number of minutes you spend on moderate physical activity.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if her doctors have considered issues like bulimia/ anorexia in her. Other than this issues that may need to be considered are recurrent infections, food allergies/ intolerance, parasitic infestations etc. Without a clinical evaluation it would be inappropriate on my side to comment further. I would suggest a detailed evaluation by a gastroenterologist for the above mentioned possibilities. After a cause is diagnosed, it can be managed accordingly. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Hi about three or so years ago I went through a long period of anorexia nervosa, I was checking labels, eating barely any fat foods, always feeling terrible if i aint something unhealthy, and on top of that running 10 miles and working out every day because I thought i was fat. Once then period ended, I immediately began to binge eat at every meal, and would get incredibly bloated and distended (pregnant).
Avatar f tn I’m gaining weight on the abilify and I cannot take anymore. I am recovering from anorexia nervosa and have been at a healthy weight for a few months now so the added weight is unbearable. My question is if excessive sweating is a withdrawal side effect that anyone here has experienced and if so how long does this last? It’s really bad and I keep taking showers but I’m sweating so bad under my arms. It is disgusting. Also how long do Abilify withdrawals last?
701581 tn?1279136038 m glad you have gotten diagnosed- hopefully properly this time! Now anorexia is different from anorexia nervosa. The first simply means a poor/lack of appetite, whereas the second is an eating disorder. Do you have a problem with lack of appetite? How did they figure out you had chronic fatigue immune dysfunction? Did you have borderline auto-immune blood testing, as to why the question about lupus or not?
