Avatar f tn t eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight. Though technically, part of the clinical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa is losing 15 percent or more of what your normal body weight should be, you do not need to be super thin in order to have an eating disorder. Most of what an eating disorder, such as Anorexia, consists of is the emotional/mental aspect..
Avatar f tn However, in my 28 year of clinical experience, I understand it as a subset of Anorexia Nervosa. This is my professional opinion. The underlying dynamics are quite similar to what we have seen in anorexia for years. It's only in the recent years as our society has focused on pure, organic, and raw foods has this new obessive compulsive form of restriction emerged and is has now been coined orthorexia.

Avatar f tn I tend to be the same as leftcoastchick - doctor is the person you need, I know anorexia needs serious help and counselling but id also wonder if it is anorexia which has fairly specific symptoms and behaviours as opposed to not eating which is indeed possibly an attempt at suicide. Is the person physically ill?

Avatar m tn Since she is already an older female (~50) it is not likely she has anorexia, also she acknowledges she is too thin, but she still keeps making comments on other peoples feeding behavior. Example: i take a slice of bread and put , in her eyes, to much sprinkles on it. Then she always says I had enough on my bread (I am aged 20+ :S) and she always tells me I am fat, she did that previously also with my little brother.
Avatar n tn Ok so my girlfriend has what has been classified as anorexia nervosa by her doctors that was much worse in the past than it is now. She has raised her calorie intake but she is afraid to bring it up to completely normal levels. Right now she is at a healthy body weight but she would still like to lose some pounds.
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?

Avatar m tn Celexa is used to treat depression. This drug is also used to treat eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa) and other mental conditions (obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder). All the other medications you mentioned are from the same family(SSRI's).
Avatar f tn The aim of treatment is to restore a healthy weight and cultivate healthy eating habits. Make her eat small frequent meals. Gaining weight it is one of the cures for anorexia nervosa. Consult a psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders. If she is depressed it also would need to be treated side by side. Please try and see a therapist as soon as possible. Patience and determination are very important while handling an anorexic person. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn Yes I did take some mood stabilizers in the past that caused weight loss (what that term means, the term anoxeria nervosa is what is used to describe the psychiatric disability people might be more familiar with). Some medications have that potential more than others but each person responds differently to each medication. If you have had any unexplained weight loss after starting a specific medication or at any time it would be essential to discuss this with your psychiatrist.

Avatar n tn I have a friend right now that is suffering from Anorexia Nervosa. She is at the state where she is in need of immediate medical attention, and i am fighting for that right now. She is only 5 feet tall, 17 years old and wieghs only 69 pounds. She was never really fat, but that is how she sees herself because of a disorder called body dysmorphia. I hope I at least helped a little with your question.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, feel depressed a lot of the time and cut regularly. I go for therapy with the NHS but I still feel terrible. Does anyone know how I can start to feel better?
554703 tn?1227497870 I never had an eating disorder per say, but years ago during a hard time with my Ex-husband, I didn't eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa.
Avatar m tn It also was hard to go, but i have no had any food at all so i am not sure if that is why? The pain gets worse with activites Like at my Starbucks job the other day i was dying but trying to hide it. (Didn't work) When i sit/bend down it gets worse. This is driving me crazy i have to work all day today from 8Am-10pm.
Avatar f tn actually OSFED (otherwise specified feeding and eating disorder) is only a temporary diagnosis. how you feel about your body is what gives you the disorder, the behaviors the define which kind. there are two types of anorexia, restrictive and binging/purging (which doesn't always include binging). it sounds like you have anorexia nervosa b/p, but i am not a doctor and you should really see one so you can get better.
Avatar n tn There are many other causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
Avatar f tn etc..you might consider counseling in the near future if you continue to have anorexia nervosa..good luck..
Avatar f tn The root cause of the tachycardia is from suffering with Anorexia Nervosa for far too long. Doctors picked up the physiological condition when I was 15 (when the anorexia was at its worst in my adolescent years). What has happened is that my heart's natural pacemaker is firing too early and hence the fact that there is not enough blood circulated throughout the body as well as oxygen. So the heart is working hard all the time. Cardio said it is as though I am consistently running.
Avatar f tn I am 14 years old, and I am developing anorexia nervosa. DO NOT starve yourself, it can lead to anorexia which I can tell you will take over your life. I understand the pressure to be pretty/perfect/thin. It is a hard thing to deal with psychologically. Try to eat health, but make sure that you are getting a health amount of calories- again, don't starve yourself. Try to exercise 20 minutes a day, and as time goes by ramp up the number of minutes you spend on moderate physical activity.
