anorexia

Avatar f tn t eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight. Though technically, part of the clinical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa is losing 15 percent or more of what your normal body weight should be, you do not need to be super thin in order to have an eating disorder. Most of what an eating disorder, such as Anorexia, consists of is the emotional/mental aspect..
179856 tn?1333547362 Most people don't think of 'anorexia' as a serious disease, but prolonged anorexia (the most common being nervosa) can be life-threatening. Because it generally leads to severe malnutrition, the host of 'complications' anorexias present can be quite varied -- but prolonged deficiencies in necessary proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids can indeed result in almost anything from bone loss to anemia to organ failure.
Avatar f tn Self evaluation is unduly influenced by body shape and weight. The disturbance does not occur exclusively during episodes of anorexia nervosa. Type Purging type: During the current episode of bulimia nervosa, the person has regularly engaged in self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a college student working on a research project on orthorexia nervosa for a Health and Illness class. I was wondering about the medical and social differences between patients with anorexia and patients with orthorexia, or if generally they are felt to be the same disease?
Avatar f tn how you feel about your body is what gives you the disorder, the behaviors the define which kind. there are two types of anorexia, restrictive and binging/purging (which doesn't always include binging). it sounds like you have anorexia nervosa b/p, but i am not a doctor and you should really see one so you can get better. long term purging has terrible effects on your body, everything from sore throats to cardiac arrest.
Avatar f tn I was in it for 13 years, and am still fertile, but it depends on how your body reacts to the malnutrition that it withstands for so long. Have you asked your Dr? Be brave, hang in there!! Be blessed!
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?
Avatar m tn And I am wondering where i can check if she might use pills to stimulate diarhea. Maybe someone has some information on the treatment of this illness in the netherlands, or maybe information of docters in my country or abroad that could possibly help me with this situation.

Avatar f tn / Also as a result of these events I have been diagnosed with Insomnia, Depression and (unfortunately) Anorexia Nervosa. The only diagnostic that I am currently struggling with is Insomnia. I am under a great deal of stress due to some issues with family business. I am currently not on medication and I am trying to quit smoking. Any idea on what I might be going through right now as well as any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated. Thank You! S.
Avatar m tn I think it is always a find line with eating disorders but airing on the side of making sure is really important. Anorexia as with all mental health issues can get worse. I had a 'sort of' issue with it when I was a work out maniac and controlled my food in a way that wasn't healthy. Every bite was measured and I didn't take a lot of bites. I was very thin. Was I anorexic? Well, not fully probably but on my way. I had a lifestyle change that kind of switched things for me.
Avatar n tn The fact that you feel better when you get enough sleep tells me you are probably just sleep deprived. It's amazing what lack of sleep can do to the body. I know for myself, if I don't get enough sleep I feel completely worn down and depleted of all energy. My body aches, my skin suffers, and my brain is in a fog where concentration is nearly impossible. I'm not good at interpreting blood work, but it is obvious your numbers are a little off.
Avatar n tn Ok so my girlfriend has what has been classified as anorexia nervosa by her doctors that was much worse in the past than it is now. She has raised her calorie intake but she is afraid to bring it up to completely normal levels. Right now she is at a healthy body weight but she would still like to lose some pounds.
Avatar n tn The eating disorder could be causing her depression. If the body is deprived of nutrients, it will affect the person emotionally and physically. My cousin has an eating disorder and she kept quiting employment and getting new employment and was crying a lot at work. It was not the job, it was the starving of her body causing her to cry at work. She wasn't able to handle any problems that came up. When children do not eat for awhile, they cry because they are hungry.
Avatar m tn Yes I did take some mood stabilizers in the past that caused weight loss (what that term means, the term anoxeria nervosa is what is used to describe the psychiatric disability people might be more familiar with). Some medications have that potential more than others but each person responds differently to each medication. If you have had any unexplained weight loss after starting a specific medication or at any time it would be essential to discuss this with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn etc..you might consider counseling in the near future if you continue to have anorexia nervosa..good luck..

In the last year, this condition has exacerbated tremendously. HR 184/5 with moderate daily activity (I am a home Mom) together with low BP. A 48 HR ECG monitor showed at night sleep my HR is close to 80. Upon waking up shoots to 126 then shoots to 184 without effort or exerting myself. Cardio advised increase sodium, magnesium and calcium intake.

5221069 tn?1366618397 The rate of embryo implantation varies in every woman. It depends on many factors like the quality of the IVF program, age of the woman etc.IVF failure is usually due to problems with the quality of eggs in most cases. Uterine causes can affect implantation but in very few cases. For making uterine lining receptive it should be exposed to the ovarian steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone in sufficient amounts and at proper timing. Do consult your infertility centre for more details.
Avatar m tn There are many causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.

701581 tn?1279136038 It may be the doctor in Miami felt the previous positive ANA test(s) was/were sufficient (provided that isn't one of the things that came out negative in latter testing?) There are doctors that are concerned about costs when ordering tests, so perhaps she was being judiciously frugal when it came to ANA? I think if you feel you have the symptoms of lupus, it is worth pursuing getting that re-tested- to see what comes out as two out of three- positive or negative for the illness.
