Can you and some family and her friends and her pastor do an Intervention and get her into treatment. Intervention is really an effective method to get people to change their behavior and get help. (Won't work every time, but it very frequently does.) Every Intervention I have participated in or heard about has worked and the person got help and stopped the addiction. Often times people are ready to stop. They just need help to stop. (And by help, I do not mean enabling.
I suffered from anorexia nervosa when I was 13 and 14 years old. After the 2nd hospitalization, I decided the only way to avoid relapse was to not diet at all. Following that realization, I recovered and have a lived a very full life. I am married with 2 children and have held successively more senior positions with a Fortune 500 company. Approximately a month ago, I had a very severe stomach virus that my daughter had picked up at school. Since that time, I have had absolutely no appetite.
She has also been in hospital in the past for 6 months recovering from anorexia. She has a long mental health history and is now 20 and is reluctant to speak with anyone about anything. A little over a month ago she started becoming more secretive with food not eating at all even in front of me. I caught her out a few times on not eating and having pretended she was.
I am fairly certain that my daughter is using oxycontin, maybe other stuff. I will have her back home next week. This is the plan we and other of the extended family are considering & I'd like your feed back. Have the family members get together with her for an intervention - (cept all I know is what they do on TV), i.e. basically telling her with our arms around her that we all KNOW but only after we have in place a place for her to go for rehab, if she chooses.
I watched an episode of intervention the other night and the guy was clean from presciption pain pills. He said that the Dr. told him after being on them for awhile, your brain will not communicate with your lungs and you can just stop breathing at anytime, I did not know about this, is it true?
Anyone watching Intervention on A&E now? You should see it, is about a woman who is addicted to prescribed drugs.
Help please-- Just found this site----we (family) are going to try to do an intervention tomorrow with a family member. I am afraid of what will happen. She is on Xanax and alcohol. She has alienated her family and is sleeping and drinking her days away. any advice (ASAP) would be appreciated.
I used to CRY when I would watch intervention, because I knew I needed help so bad! you're not alone on that one, during the last few months of my using I would cry ALL the time to my fiance, and my roomate about how badly I needed help and needed to go to rehab. they were supportive of me quitting, but not leaving to go to rehab. They were afraid that everything would fall apart if I left for even 30 days. you know, bills, house responsibilites, and all that!
Does any body ever tune in to the A&E show called Intervention? It's a tough show to watch but well worth it....
I'm sorry you are in a position to have to analyze this. I would venture a guess that a fair number of girls do not have a very good self image. And losing weight sometimes helps and sometimes not. That's a bit different than body dysmorphic disorder. Body dysmorphic disorder is a total preoccupation. It does often accompany an eating disorder such as bulimia and/or anorexia. You don't say how you lost the weight and if you actively are trying to lose more.

My 14 years old daughter 5'9" only weight 102lbs,she rapidly drop 30 lbs last year and she doesn't want gain any weight now.She has many anorexia symptom but she eats 3 health meals everyday(no fat).Her anorexia became after her right elbow injury 2 years ago(still didn't recovry yet).She deny has anorexia that's mean she refuse to see doctor.

t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.

Your gastrointestinal system could definitely be thrown off from your anorexia. Your current anxiety could be the culprit for your diarrhea. Anxiety and Anorexia often go hand in hand. Seeking medical attention for your diarrhea is recommended. Getting to the root of your anxiety and decreasing your anxiety is critical.
