1158511 tn?1262554942 At 5'4" and 87.4 pounds, your body weight would qualify for anorexia. Low body weight is one of the criteria for anorexia. By visiting the bella vita website you could take our free eating disorder survey and also read more about anorexia to help you understand more.
Avatar f tn This is not a direct question about health insurance.... Hi I'm a 21yr old female I'm 5'4 and weigh like 106lbs. I'm very solid and tone (naturaly) so I look smaller than what I weigh. I would like to get some kind of information on a healthy way of gaining some weight. I would like to put on at least 8 pounds.
1479003 tn?1287429481 It's very hard. I didn't start getting recovery until I was able to let go obsessing on the weight. It's hard to do without help. Good for you on seeking help, and let us know how it goes.
869670 tn?1239964618 You are right, you think if only I get to this weight everything will be good. But then you reach it and it's not good and the obsession just gets stronger. It is an enormous realization for you that you were happy at your "heaviest", because it isn't about the weight at all. It's about feeling okay with who you are and the life you live. You are very lucky because you are young and you haven't been doing this for long. That makes it easier to recover.
Avatar m tn t mention your weight, you do mention severely restricting your food which is a hallmark sign of Anorexia as well as your fear of gaining any weight. Please understand that Anorexia can be very serious and lead to eventual death if not dealt with. This information may be helpful for you to understand all Anorexia entails https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/anorexia-nervosa/mental-health-anorexia-nervosa#1.
Avatar f tn m no expert but I would say your in the begginging or middel stage. You are one pound under weight and I take you by what you said you want to lose weight so my guess is yes. But I would talk to your doctor because no one online can diagnose you. You need to see a profeshanal doctor. And try posting this in the eating disorders fourm!!!
Avatar n tn I am 28 and have had an eating disorder for several years. I now want to start trying for a baby, but I'm worried about my fertility and capability to fall pregnant. I am trying to put on some weight and have put on a few kilos but still haven't got my periods back (I haven't had one for 2 years- which is when I stopped taking the pill to see if I would menstrate normally). Is there any way to know if I'm still fertile (as terrifying as that question is)?
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn Is it possible the anxiety is driving the eating problem? ( and yes stim meds can be a factor). More importantly what does she think about the weight loss. Is she open to supplements like protein drinks, etc.?
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm new and terrified for a friend who says she's been diagnosed with Lyme disease. At first, I had no reason to believe otherwise. However, I'm not sure now. She has lost an extreme amount of weight. A couple of years ago when this all began, she was losing weight quickly and couldn't eat anything unless it was pureed. Without going into all the details, she presented all the signs of anorexia and still does.
Avatar m tn Before this ever happened I ate a lot and had no trouble eating im a petite girl and I really dont gain weight...
Avatar n tn I continued eating about that much and exercised a bit more (but not much), and by spring 2006, my weight had dropped for some unknown reason to about 83 pounds. I was secretly pleased but disturbed. In the summer of 2006, while I kept my calorie intake at about 1850 and continued exercising for 45 min/day, my weight started to inch back up. After it got to the high 80s, I couldn't help myself---I started to restrict again.
Avatar f tn So best of luck to you, i hope they can come back and that you can continue to gain weight and become a healthy bmi again. Just remember to think positive, it is scary and hard at first but it really pays off! You will be so much happier!
5061022 tn?1363018223 its a constant battle and I hate it....I am trying so hard right now to fight losing weight the right way....I am having a very hard time.....
Avatar m tn Muscle mass is from protein, not carbs. Carbs are for quick energy and antioxidants, but the carb category includes a vast array of foods -- fruit, vegetables, grains (which are a blend of protein and carbs). There are simple carbs and complex carbs. Her weight may be what's right for her, but if she does put on muscle that will put on healthy weight.
Avatar n tn my daughter was on lexipro for over a year and she gained weight like crazy!!! she gained 100 pounds (but it looked more than that) and she can no longer fit through the door.. it has turned out to be quite pricey. we had to have new toilets installed, a new bed ( because she broke hers), a new couch, basically new everything because of her weight problems. she lost all of her friends..
Avatar f tn Obsessing over food and losing weight is silly to be honest. Skin and bones are not attractive. Conult a therapist and nutrionist to get it worked out before it becomes a bigger problem. The best advice I heard was get a life. Eating should only take up some of your day not your whole life. There are plenty of other things to do. Be happy.
Avatar n tn the thing is she has been trying to lose them normally through exercise and diet but since her metabolism is so shot from her bad anorexia its extremely difficult for her and that only makes it worse. i really don't like seeing her this upset. any advice?
Avatar f tn So I'm a 16 year old girl, about 5'5' and 110lbs. I'm on a calorie restricting diet and exercising a lot to lose weight. My family doesn't know and I can't talk to them about it due to circumstances i cannot discuss. My one friend who knows about this tells me I'm on the verge of anorexia and people at school are talking about me saying how skinny I'm getting. When people originally told me this I took it as a compliment, now I find it embarrassing.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from anorexia and bulimia for 12 years now. I am currently at an over weight weight but started losing massive amounts right before I found out I was pregnant. Same thing happened with my daughter. Its going to be hard. I'm not going to lie to you but don't deprive yourself. Remember, restricting yourself is restricting the baby. talk to your doctor and see a psychologist that specializes in eating disorders and try to do some yoga and writing therapy.
1310561 tn?1285863461 Anorexia is an eating disorder and is very hard on you body. While you are young now and it might not seem important, anorexia will cause issues as you get older, such as trouble with your periods, difficulty/inability to have children, as well as others.
Avatar f tn Here is some information from the March of Dimes regarding anorexia and pregnancy. It talks about the risks and encourages women to work with their doctors and therapists especially during pregnancy. https://www.marchofdimes.org/complications/eating-disorders-and-pregnancy.
Avatar f tn It begins to become a habit and soon, when you are recovering from anorexia and bulimia (if you started throwing up) you would hardly be able to keep your food down at every meal. At 90 pounds, you are close to dying. If you start throwing up you can rupture your esophagus and possibly an organ, bleeding to death internally. It sounds like your combined anorexia and self harm is a form of seeking control. Although I can always be wrong, it's likely a main cause.
Avatar f tn In addition, their LH and estrogen levels were higher than those adolescents with anorexia only. PCOS occurs in 10% of females during reproductive age. The cause is still unknown. For more information about anorexia, visit the bella vita website. Dr.
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
