Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia and thyroid

anorexia

Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
Avatar n tn Biochemically, anorexic patients have a constellation of thyroid hormone abnormalities similar to sick euthyroid syndrome with notably low T3 levels and low to normal T4 levels due to decreased peripheral conversion (21). Patients with AN generally have normal to below-normal thyroid-stimulating hormone levels (22).
Avatar f tn What is the relationship of her having Amennorhea for 6 yrs, starting the birth control pill, her depression and now thyroid disorder?? What website is good for explaining the imbalance that we could educate ourselves in, and possibly bring articles to the Specialist when we go?
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar n tn You definitely want to have your eating disorder in good control during pregnancy, as you are going to have to gain 12-15 kilos for the baby to be healthy--this can be very difficult for some people! I would suggest that you have your thyroid levels and prolactin levels checked too, as they may be out of balance.
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
Avatar n tn I'm a 27-year-old female and I "recovered" from severe anorexia after in-patient treatment in 2005. I'm 5'3" tall and weighed in the low 70s before treatment. After treatment, I was eating about 1850 calories a day and weighed just under 100 pounds (still low, I know). I continued eating about that much and exercised a bit more (but not much), and by spring 2006, my weight had dropped for some unknown reason to about 83 pounds. I was secretly pleased but disturbed.
Avatar n tn Although that helped a lot with the fatigue, etc, I still felt awful - tired, muscles hurt, etc and I asked for thyroid test in Jun 08 and was dx hypothyroid. Now with the blood sugar issue, it's getting kind of scary as I've no idea where it will all end. No matter what or how little I eat, or exercise, I have not been able to lose weight - most of it put on tummy, but plenty to go around the whole body (approx 30 lbs total). Makes me feel fat, bloated, etc.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.

Avatar f tn I also ws in inpatient treatment several times for anorexia and bulimia. To my horror 3 months after leaving treatment and trying my best to follow my meal plan, I started gaining weight. I blow up and became over weight. I do not have health insurance so it is hard to get in to a good specialist. I have been on medication for a long time and my thyroid still is not regulated. I am not happy about my weight.
1247613 tn?1268785691 I live in Japan, and it is hard for me to get certain health care or prescriptions. My mother sends me my old prescriptions from the states, I am currently taking minocycline and budeprion xl, and last year, I had a kidney infection due to serious dehydration from anorexia. I've recovered from anorexia and have not had kidney problems since, but recently, I've had serious insomnia and anxiety/fear due to the idea that I may get that kidney infection again.
1440512 tn?1294471633 I saw my primary dr today and he has made me so angry. Since 2003 I was diagnosed bipolar1, borderline personality disorder, ptsd, and anorexia. I beat the anorexia by choice therapy and being on seroquel. I gained up to the three hundred mark. Before the eight months ago my life could not have been better. Mentally I was stronger than ever. I was in college pursuing my dream. My gf and I were getting along great. I enjoyed my alone time and going to town on my own.
Avatar f tn Your 400 calories on alternate days is flirting with an anorexia-like diet and is most likely stressing your body. Rather than cut your long locks, look to have a balanced diet each and every day. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi iam a female of 24yrs i feel heaviness and dizziness whenever i move my head in space (side to side) i dont whats the problem is the problem is with my vertebral artery or is it anorexia. Pl. guide me as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn but at the low end, my TSH had jumped to 3.77 and I tested NEGATIVE for thyroid antibodies. The Dr. Told me I was normal and my symptoms are stress induced. I like my Dr. but I think he is wrong in this case. I am not feeling well and it seems to be getting worse. I am moving in June and I don't want my health to become an issue when I'm far from home trying to find a new job, etc. Also, as a recovering anorexic, any jump in my weight is extremely difficult for me to deal with.
785277 tn?1244324809 I can only speak for myself. I had beautiful teeth when I was a teenager. Now from my twenties on....43, Infections!!!!I have had all my teeth root canaled, bonded, pulled, bridged, and now finally all pulled and I'm working on implants. Its not worth all the pain and suffering, I will tell you that right now. I have spent over 35,000 on my teeth over the years. Infections in the mouth can lead to death...the infection can go straight to your heart or brain.
Avatar f tn I'm on too much thyroid supplementation, I presume based on these numbers, is that correctt, whomever will answer this for me, please doctor? But my subjective s/s are calling it another way. My labs generated this: TSH-0.010; T4-13.7. Meds are 175 mcgs qd, synthroid, plus cytomel-5 mcgs. bid; however, I've been on this therapy for 38 years. Is there 1. a possibility I should be changed from a synthetic; and 2. the dose lowered? Would just love some feedback.
Avatar f tn When I was young I had anorexia and lost my periods completely, along with any sexual desires. When I finally came to my senses and told myself to have faith in my body to find a good weight and eat when hungry I slowly came back to a life. I then got married and had children and only then discovered how lucky I was as many anorexics can no longer have children. You may need to go and talk to a psychologist who will help you deal with the reason for your anorexia.
Avatar f tn I believe you have the same issue. Makes sense as thyroid might have been weak anyway and is affected by starvation extremely. And please do not do NOT go low carb, it will kill you. Carbs do not make you fat. Damaged organs make you fat and eating less will only cause further issues. I have hope of working it all out eventually, I am definitely on the right track now. Go to the healthunlocked thyroiduk forum and have a look round - lots of helpful people.
Avatar f tn first of all your periods stop because you are starving your body, and messing up all your hormone levels and plus you have no body fat. i have had an ed for almost 12 years and i didnt get my period i think till i was 18 it is not healthy to do. i have tremendous amounts of knowledge of this disease and if you ever need someone to talk to please just leave a message for me.
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.

5664897 tn?1375480696 Try the way you said and see, but you may still need psychological support and/or advice from a nutritionist about eating healthily.
