Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia and refeeding syndrome

anorexia

Avatar f tn ve been having severe constipation despite increased food portions and taking stool softeners. Is this normal in refeeding? Thank you for any help you could give. This constant hunger has me at the end of my rope.
Avatar n tn I also told her about not ever being hungry and the feeling of fullness and she also mentioned refeeding my body. She told me that I have lots of "tissue edema" or tissue fluid and that is a lot of my weight. She explained that all the testing I have done over the past month or two would not revealed the screwed up metabolism my body is in.
Avatar f tn Probably not. That's not long enough to be starving. Although you aren't doing any favors to your metabolism. I would try not to binge and then not eat for so long and control it more?
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years I have been working very hard at recovery.I had a relapse last January and started refeeding about 2 months ago.I am in therepy and see my doctor for blind weights once a week.My main problem now is that I have started to binge eat.The way I feel after is very triggering for me.I try to journal or busy myself or try to sit with my feelings instead of eat but I just cant control the urge to eat.I always crave desserts.I wish I could just stop this.
823968 tn?1245061618 s doing, which I will assume she does, then she is the one to rely on for the refeeding process. Everybody is different and has a different story, so comparisons might make things more difficult for you. Generally though the idea is to eat meals and snacks through the day, but the amounts might start smaller and increase with time depending on what they can handle and how they're doing, etc. etc.
Avatar f tn I have never had anorexia but a good friend of mine did and she went through the same problem of becoming a binge eater after recovering from anorexia. One thing I want you to remember is that both anorexia and binge eating are eating disorders. One is not better then the other and both can take a toll on your health. Your weight seems to actually be pretty healthy for your height but if you are unhappy because your weight gain is not through healthy ways, I can understand your concern.
Avatar n tn Refeeding is definately the most painful experience that I have gone through in the past (several times). Tums are my best friend. Brown rice, saltines, and any fish product are easier to digest than many things. If you have been purging for that long, you will want to stay away from anything too acidic. Apples, most fruits (other than bananas, those are easiar to digest and LOADED with potassium, a great way to help heal your heart).
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
Avatar n tn Rasha-OMG I went through the same thing! I was 70 pounds and gained up to 165 and I HATE IT when i binge my veins swell up and I dont know what is happening. All I know it's from when we both starved ourselves. I'm thinking it could be from uric acid still in the blood but im nnot sure. it happens when I eat too. It's making me want to go back into my eating disorder. Someone else told me it's hormones btu I don't know.
Avatar f tn Am I ok? How long does edema/refeeding syndrome last? I am determined to not go back to being bulimic but am so scared that there is something really wrong.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar n tn I have noticed within the past 3-4 days that when I am on the Ellipitcal Trainer, my toes, finger tips and lips go numb and my lips turn purple. I have read about Reynauds and did not know if this is what I had or not. The symptoms seem to go away when I take a hot shower, but my lips stay slightly numb throughout the rest of the day. What do you think?
Avatar n tn Biochemically, anorexic patients have a constellation of thyroid hormone abnormalities similar to sick euthyroid syndrome with notably low T3 levels and low to normal T4 levels due to decreased peripheral conversion (21). Patients with AN generally have normal to below-normal thyroid-stimulating hormone levels (22).
Avatar n tn I stopped eating gluten, started a very healthy diet with lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains (non gluten) and now feel fantastic, with one problem. I immediately gained 25 pounds (in the first two days). The doctor says I have refeeding edema because I had malnutrtion. He has prescribed patience and a low carb diet.

Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
