anorexia

179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar n tn I'm recently in recovery from 11yrs of anorexia. I have severe osteoporosis as a result. I am 22 years old. I was put on birth control for the estrogen to help replenish my bones, and return my period. (I do not menstruate without the pill) I have doubts of my being able to actually carry a child in the future, but was considering a surrogate mother. Is there anyway to tell if I'm even producing eggs anymore? Is a surrogate, with my egg and husband's sperm possible?
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn I'm 17, somewhere around 115 pounds maybe (my scale at home is broken and that's just what I weighed when I went to the doctor three months ago) and I've been restricting for 2 1/2 years. The past several months, I've been able to restrict and fast more and have probably lost more weight, but I'm still not thin enough to fit the weight criteria for anorexia nervosa or even be considered underweight.
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.

Avatar f tn A little insight, I was a self harmer and I am a recovering anorexic and today, I have had a stroke, osteoporosis and have heart problems due to anorexia. I always said it would not happen to me but how WRONG I was. Your heart could give out at any time. The professionals can be supportive, give you tools and skills to help you. Iit is up to you to WANT the change to make the difference. It takes time to deal with what you have been through and not having the family support you need.
Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. Avatar m tn I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I have tried several times to take calcium supplements within the guidelines when taking Synthroid, (more than 4 hours before or after taking med), and I become almost immediately exhausted, and sleep for 8-12 hours. I take only about 250 mgs of calcium, and vitamin D as well.
231441 tn?1333892766 My TSH is now and has been for some time, at 0.01, my FT's are now slightly < mid range; and my doctors keep saying that it's going to cause osteoporosis; however, I've done some research and found that not to be true. In fact, I just posted for information about that a week or so ago and was given a couple of good sites. Here's the post: http://www.medhelp.

Avatar f tn Osteoporosis is the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time. If you do not get enough calcium, or if your body does not absorb enough calcium from the diet, bone production and bone tissues may suffer. As you age, calcium and phosphate may be reabsorbed back into the body from the bones, which makes the bone tissue weaker. And this happens with the bones of your entire body.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 2 years ago with Dexascan results having Z-scores slightly below -2.5. Recently I have been experiencing vague symptoms (fatigue, dry skin and hair, brain fog, etc.) that I attributed to recent menopause but my thyroid tests revealed the following: TSH = 4.24 (0.34-5.60) FT4 = 0.64 (0.62-1.12) TT4 = 3.9 (4.5-12.
1485696 tn?1312405527 My doctor had a bone density scan done and it showed early signs of osteopenia, not unusual for my age and for being postmenepausal. One year later, I was diagnosed with MS. Started on Copaxon, and seem to be keeping it at bay. Now, at 52, I suffered a pathological fracture of my sacrum, lifting a patient during my occupation as a paramedic. I should also mention that I have grade B spondilitis in my back at L5 and S1.
