Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia and menopause

Avatar f tn I took a pregnancy pee test just at the 2 months after last missed period and it was negative. Anyone just go into menopause at 46 from being regular to just having periods stop?
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of any connection between anorexia, the pituitary gland and levels of ACTH or cortisol?
Avatar n tn With your history of anorexia, you may still have a low percent body fat and when that occurs (and even when not) the anorexia may have suppressed the signals from your hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls ovulation). Having said this, of course it is important to make sure you are not one of the 10% who have premature ovarian failure, and the hormone tests will tell the answer.
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
4742865 tn?1358632836 No, it is not impossible to lose weight after 40 yrs, but yes, it is slightly difficult due to hormonal changes of pre-menopause. Since you have been struggling with weight issues and are not eating much, there is a chance you have problems like PCOD, diabetes, hypothyroidism or anemia, which are making it difficult for you to lose weight. Please get this investigated. Also, please consult a psychologist dealing with eating disorders.

7429086 tn?1390769769 But are you sure you are at that point? Even severe anorexia, bipolar and upcoming menopause together are not beyond the help of a good therapist (and of HRT). If your therapist has not been helpful, find another one. There is no rule that you have to stick with the same one. And talk to your doctor about HRT; it will help ease your mind a lot.
Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
Avatar m tn Mostly it appears to be thinning and I began to notice it about a month ago and to me it seems to be getting worse by the week. There is no history of hair loss in my family men or women before menopause. I have been experiencing irregular periods for the past two year but they have recently been regular. It seems strange to me that a female of my age would be having hair loss. Do you think its permanent? What should I do?
Avatar f tn Normally, in cases of actual Anorexia. In most cases, symptoms do start to show up at puberty. They can come and go, and the weight fluctuates until the final illusion of control is in place. It doesn't just go away. I never had it. I looked as though I did, but had a seriously low fat diet, low carb and worked 24/7. I do have a panic disorder and it flared up during this time due to lack of calories and rest. The Psychologist diagnosed Anorexia.

785277 tn?1244324809 I can only speak for myself. I had beautiful teeth when I was a teenager. Now from my twenties on....43, Infections!!!!I have had all my teeth root canaled, bonded, pulled, bridged, and now finally all pulled and I'm working on implants. Its not worth all the pain and suffering, I will tell you that right now. I have spent over 35,000 on my teeth over the years. Infections in the mouth can lead to death...the infection can go straight to your heart or brain.
Avatar f tn first of all your periods stop because you are starving your body, and messing up all your hormone levels and plus you have no body fat. i have had an ed for almost 12 years and i didnt get my period i think till i was 18 it is not healthy to do. i have tremendous amounts of knowledge of this disease and if you ever need someone to talk to please just leave a message for me.
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.

Avatar n tn Dear kate306, Your gastrointestinal system could definitely be thrown off from your anorexia. Your current anxiety could be the culprit for your diarrhea. Anxiety and Anorexia often go hand in hand. Seeking medical attention for your diarrhea is recommended. Getting to the root of your anxiety and decreasing your anxiety is critical. Avatar f tn I am 49 and have not had a period in 1 1/2 years. I also am hypothyroid and take 88 mg of Synthroid. I started having pelvic pain 2 weeks ago with some back pain and over last few days pain was radiating down my leg. I was set to see my family doctor but then today I had some light vaginal bleeding. I was told by my doctor to go to the emergency dept. I had a pelvic exam, intravaginal and abdominal ultrasound and X-ray.
