anorexia

179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar n tn If you are below that, yes you can get some serious problems from being underweight -- malnourishment, which can cause anemia, vitamin deficiencies, which can affect your heart and your reproductive organs. If you have a problem with anorexia you can die from complications because left untreated it will affect your internal organs. If it isn't anorexia and you can't gain weight you need to see a gastroenterologist to see if you may have a malabsorption issue or some other issue.
Avatar n tn I have noticed within the past 3-4 days that when I am on the Ellipitcal Trainer, my toes, finger tips and lips go numb and my lips turn purple. I have read about Reynauds and did not know if this is what I had or not. The symptoms seem to go away when I take a hot shower, but my lips stay slightly numb throughout the rest of the day. What do you think?
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.

Avatar f tn Side effects come and go, but have been anorexia, which seems to be better the last two weeks, bad rash at first and comes and goes now, anal issues, some nausea that also comes and goes, and headaches, not bad, just those annoying ones. Just plain tired and a bit short of breath (probably from anemia). Many of the side effects can be treated, and all and all have not been too horrible. I drink tons of water, at least a gallon a day.
1017480 tn?1303107824 I am 26 years old, 5'4", and 90pounds. I have suffered from Anorexia and Bulimia for the past 5 years. I recently have been experiencing severe weeping edema all over my body. My doctor has done blood tests showing everything is normal and a heart ultra sound also showing to be normal. No idea what is going on... any ideas?
Avatar n tn I have to reduce dose of Pegasys. Had severe sides of profound weakness and anorexia. Ended up in the ER. I am 5'1" 112 and wondering why I am recommended the same dose as a 300 pound guy. I googled for the rationale behind not weight-basing and can't find anything. I have read about Pegintron being weight-based but was wondering why Pegasys wasn't. Thanks!
1715257 tn?1308732738 Numb peripheries can happen due to peripheral vascular disease or disorder of the circulatory system outside of the brain and heart. Other causes are hypothyroidism, eating disorders like anorexia, Vit B12 deficiency, Addison’s disease, adrenal causes like pheochromocytoma, anemia, Buerger’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and Raynaud’s disease. You will need some tests like treadmill test, color Doppler, angiography, ultrasonography and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).
Avatar f tn Other causes of cold extremities are hypothyroidism, eating disorders like anorexia, Vit B12 deficiency, Addison’s disease, adrenal causes like pheochromocytoma, anemia, Buerger’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and Raynaud’s disease. You will need some tests like treadmill test, color Doppler, angiography, ultrasonography and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Avatar f tn Red palms and soles can be due cold extremities, as seen in hypothyroidism, eating disorders like anorexia, Vit B12 deficiency, Addison’s disease, adrenal causes like pheochromocytoma, anemia, Buerger’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome and Raynaud’s disease. You will need some tests like treadmill test, color Doppler, angiography, ultrasonography and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Drugs like beta blockers which are used as antihypertensives can also cause cold extremities.

Avatar n tn People with low blood pressure may have a feeling of dizziness, lightheadedness and feeling of passing out. Low blood pressure could be due to anemia, dehydration, drug induced etc. Anorexia and bulimia are both eating disorders that have been associated with a poor self-perception and body image. They can lead to depression and even suicidal tendencies.Depression, thyroid disorders, anxiety stress all can lead to such feelings.

Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
Avatar f tn The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Then proper referral for concerned specialist can take things further and get you proper treatment. Take care!
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
787406 tn?1339203183 Your low RBC, hemaglobin and HCT are due to the anemia. The high MCH is due to the B12 def and anemia. The anion gap is used to measure the concentration of cations (sodium and potassium) and the anions (chloride and CO2) in the extracellular fluid of the blood. A low level may indicate metabolic alkalosis due to the overproduction of alkaloid (a state of acidosis is in effect). - I have no idea what that means. Low BUN can mean liver disease or anorexia for several days.
Avatar f tn Burning feet is common among former prisoners of war, people with anorexia and bulimia, people who had long periods of inability to eat for some reason or another and people with a history of anemia.
Avatar f tn There are no good or bad foods don't give them that power. A lot of the fatigue is normal but I'd have your Dr check for anemia. If you aren't getting proper nutrition you'll be dead tired because baby is taking your nutrients. I've struggled with anorexia for 10 years and didn't even think I could get pregnant. Its very very hard to change your eating habits but having the support of your family can help.

Avatar m tn It appears that maybe you have developed anorexia and you really should talk to your doctor and/or get counseling in order to re-establish healthy eating habits. It's entirely possible to eat healthy and exercise and not regain the weight you lost.
