Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure what is

angiogram

Avatar n tn Angiogram is when the doctors go up through your groin into your heart, use some dye, and checked for blocked arteries. Sometimes they check the pressure in the valves. A mild sedative is given before to relax you. It will definitely show if there is anything wrong with your heart and it is worth it. If they see blocked arteries they may choose to stent them to keep them open at that time.
Avatar n tn Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar n tn A CT angiogram is more sensitive than a straight forward angiogram. They both rely on a radioactive substance being injected into your blood stream and it's this which the scanners pick up. If a CT angiogram doesn't reveal a vessel, then no way will an angiogram. I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure what it'd be that's the scary part I don't no what would cause this pain. I didn't no if my ef was to high or not I usually hear them like 40 to 60. If you don't mind me asking why so many angiograms?
Avatar m tn Yesterday I was chemically stressed before I was injected with the radioactive solution before scanning. Scanning was done after an hour later. Today the subsequent procedure is called the Rest Test/scan and the final result is only expected in 2 weeks. I have not heard this type of procedure before and I am also not sure how reliable this type of scan can be. What can I expect from this test result.
Avatar n tn I'm having a CT angiogram Thursday. It avoids an interventional procedure that has some risk. X-ray exposture presents some risk for cancer, but my non-interventional cardiologist feels a CT angiogram is sufficient and I'm not disputing his recommendation. I had a cath angiogram and a stent 4 years ago, there was no problem as I was in a hospital setting for 3-4 days. However, some people experience a bleeding problem at the site of the cath insertion and pain that lasts several days.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar n tn There is no requirement for angiogram...that procedure is best for blood flow anaylsis. A valve problem (stenosis, regurgitation, structually abnormal, etc.) can be analyzed with an echocardiogram with the doppler software (color codes blood flow in realtime).
Avatar m tn Some people confuse the term 'groin' to mean the actual genitals. Is this what you are thinking? The catheter goes into the inside of your leg, near the top, to enter the femoral artery. If this is offtrack I apologist. The area is numbed of course and you are given medication to keep you relaxed. If I'm offtrack, some cardiologists can go through the wrist.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
Avatar f tn Anyone had bad experience with angiogram? What happens during angio like feelings sedatives I'm getting anxieties more and more the closer I get.
974371 tn?1424653129 No way could I get through that and understand they keep you awake? Wondering if there is an alternative and if anyone has had the angiogram done and what your experiences were.
Avatar m tn I understand your question is subsequent to the procedure, but if it occurs subsequent there could be a risk of having a coughing spell during the procedure. I have never heard the contrast dye or IV has caused a cough, but some individuals under specific circumstances could have the coughing episode as you describe. Thanks for your question, maybe someone else has an answer or the experience.
Avatar f tn But it has been made clear, that no one can find where the bleeding is coming from. It is being assumed it is coming from the varices that have formed in my stomach. Are their any other options if the bleeding continues? Does anyone have any other situations like this which resulted in a different procedure to fix? Thank you for your time and help!
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
1950425 tn?1452914516 to enter coronary vessels and look at the blood flow in them. The procedure has risks.. one is injury to a blood vessel wall and a blood clot may result. If the procedure involved placing a stent in the vessels then there are additional risks of blood clots with that as well. You should be discussing this with your cardiologists since no one else knows your exact medical condition.
Avatar m tn For a pain free 20 minute procedure it is worth it. Imagine if you have the procedure and nothing is found, you can relax for many years.
Avatar f tn Hi Suzy, I agree that an angio procedure through the wrist is often more painful. Once the procedure is done, the healing normally goes much quicker though. The angiogram itself will not cause symptoms like edema or chest pains, but keep in mind that the angiogram is made because there is reason to believe that something is not perfect with your heart. If the heart is not doing its work as it should, that can cause edema and chest pains.
Avatar n tn A nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate in finding CAD whereas a angiogram is 100% accurate. The angiogram also carries a 1 - 3% risk of complications, the most common risk, although very rare, is having an artery dissected during the procedure which results in emergency bypass surgery. Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present.
Avatar m tn There is a difference between an angiogram and angioplasty. Angiogram is a diagnostic procedure! Angioplasty is therapeutic meaning treatment. Usually, or almost always the diagnostic procedure (angiogram) is performed before there is treatment.
Avatar m tn i know this might be the right forum for my question, but i know many in here have implants that requier ongoing ct scans. Is 4 ct scans to many? i agree this ct angiogram is needed because my symptoms are not tolerable anymore. ill be paying for this ct angiogrm out of pocket because my health imsurance wont cover, and also i had a heated argument with the cardiologist from my inssurance. is 4 ct scans excesive?
Avatar f tn An arteriogram/angiogram is procedure with contrast dye to establish whether or not there vessel stenoisis (narrowing) that may effect the blood supply to specific heart location. The arteriogram can be an interventional procedure (cath moved through femur vessel) or non-intervention with CT scan that takes images. What procedure have you had to determine ischemia (low blood supply) to the heart's apex of a heart wall? Do you have symptoms for the ischemia?
