The doc has me set up two days after my stress test for a heart cath. How many stents can be put in? He seemed concerned but I have had no discomfort, chest pain or shortness of breath or tiredness. How long do stents last? I heard that the medicated ones from Boston Scientific are not all that great.

With regards to your Obtuse marginal, if you get your stress under control, it probably will never get any worse. When stressed, the body increases blood pressure and heart rate, basically working the hell out of your arteries.
Angiograms are considered an invasive procedure, but they are very safe. I've had about a dozen with no more complication that a big bruise. You will be sedated, and won't remember much, and it will be pretty much painless.
Sharp pains are generally not cardiac in nature, but it is always wise to check out any chest pains, especially if you have high risk factors like obesity, diabetes, or certainly if you smoke.

absolutely he should go for an angiogram, there is no doubt about it. The Cardiologist needs to know which arteries are affected, and by how much. Angiogram is the gold standard. If you don't have an angiogram, you will be guessing that everything will be fine, and hoping he doesn't have a heart attack and die.
They can also check for vasospasm during an angiogram, which could be a cause of the ischemia. To be truthful, I could probably write a book as to why the angiogram is a much better choice. On a last, but important note. It is becoming the norm to do an angiogram through the radial artery in the wrist now. This reduces complications because you can't bleed to death from the wrist, not like you can from the femoral artery in the leg.
I think another angiogram is your best option personally. It will show how clear your vessels are but ask them to do a FFR on your coronary arteries. This is a tiny sensor which gives the cardiologist the blood flow rate. Without this test, they are simply going by visual signs which is an inaccurate method. I would like to know what your BP was to lower your EF to 15%?
An angiogram (CT or cath) test examines the coronary arteries for any blockage. Blocked coronary ateries compromise the blood flow to the heart tissues. A lack of blood flow to the heart cells causes chest pains. If there are blockages, a stent implant (usually done at time of angiogram) will increase the diameter of the occlusion/occlusions permitting more blood to the deficit area. Sometimes the area of blockage can not be stented because of location, tortuous segment, too long, etc...
In the past year I have had a 64 ct angiogram and several chest ct scans.do you think this radiation is excessive and may lead to future health problems?

My partner is having an angiogram after suffering chest pains a few weeks ago. NAD was found at the time from blood tests and ECG (done over 18 hours). Was kept in overnight. Had no discomfort since, but suffers from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol which are all controlled and low due to medication.
His chest pains were 4 weeks ago and he's had nothing since.
I saw a new cardiologist at a different hospital and he thinks I should have a CT Angiogram.. A CT Angiogram is a none invasive procedure, it takes 3d pictures of the heart using a ct scane 64 slice method. The scane can pic up blocked blood flow and narrow blood vessels.. But I would like to know witch one of the two is more reliable test.. Considering I had a negative nuclear stress test.. Will the ct angiogram be a more persised test at pinpointing and finding a possible problem..
Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.

Now my father is adamant for not having catheter coronary angiogram done. Would 2D Echo - cardiogram with doppler help. He takes walk and has medicines prescribed by cardiac regularly alongwith ayurvedic medicines.

I've had a CTA and because it's noninvasive I much prefer that option over a catheter angiogram. But first check with your health insurance carrier. Mine was willing to cover the angiogram but not the CTA. I opted to pay for the CTA out of my own pocket ($900).
You mentioned you had a stress test. Was an echocardiogram involved? If you haven't had one, I would opt for that first.
I have been dealing with chest pain for over a year now I have had several ekgs a stress test that came up abnormal so then they did an angiogram which came back normal yet I am still having chronic pain in the left side of my chest off and on and its sharp I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO !!!!!!!!!! I am tired of hurting all the time....what should I do next???????????
to find if there are blockages in the arteries. A MRI or 64CT / PET scan can clearly show how much of heart muscle or "myocardium" is still viable following a heart attack, of course it does show occluded arteries, if there is significant blockage. If you have / dont have blockages, the aforementioned tests may prove simply prove inconclusiv. Nuclear stress tests often have a 10% false positive. My friend, I too am in the same boat with you.
d certainly have an angiogram to verify or disprove the diagnosis. Angiograms sound much more invasive than they are, they are a very safe way to get answers as to the condition of your heart arteries. I've had the procedure six or seven times, the most difficult part is keeping your leg from moving afterwards for 5 or 6 hours.
