Avatar f tn Hi there-- What a good question! I'm afraid I can't give you a solid date, as each person's journey is a little different. What I do want to do is explain why it will take time. Here comes Mrs. Science! The pleasure center of the brain is concentrated primarily in the area of the brain called the limbic system. This includes the sex drive AND the effects of drugs that produce euphoria, including opiates! The limbic system is also the center of memory and emotion.
Avatar n tn I had breast cancer in my right breast 7 yrs. ago, had a lumpectomy, & had chemo. & radiation therapy for that. I couldn't follow up with Temoxaphen because of negative receptors. Cancer was found in my left breast now, so I had a bilateral mastectomy and no cancer cells were found other than in the new cancer site when pathology was done on the removed tissue and nodes. this cancer had positive estrogen receptors. The diagnosis is good and was rated as a "0".
Avatar m tn would there be similar cause and effect to CSCR? Even if CSCR was present prior to androgen therapy?
Avatar f tn Hi everybody, I'm a 20 yr old women who's been dealing with this problem for about 4 months now and it is genuinely making me depressed so I need answers. My hair is stringy, greasy, and sticky (like clumpy) in the back no matter what I wash it in. It is also seems to be spreading. I've tried ketacozonale, t-gel, acv, baking soda, dish soap, nizoral, matrix scalp therapy, and clarifying shampoos. I'm at a loss. My derm was no help.
505677 tn?1263948093 Denosumab Shows Bone Benefits in Two Pivotal Studies Denosumab increases bone mineral density (BMD) and reduces the risk of vertebral fractures in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis as well as men treated with androgen deprivation therapy for non-metastatic prostate cancer, according to the results of two pivotal studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Denosumab is an investigational drug that targets a protein known as the RANK ligand.
Avatar m tn You cited the SWOG 8794 study as showing adjuvant radiation reducing the need for androgen ablation. Are you aware of any evidence that hormone therapy combined with adjuvant radiation therapy increases the survival rate or extends the time to biochemical failure, local recurrence or metatastic disease? Is there any preparation that you recommend prior to treatment that can minimize side effects? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi. Although your androgen (male hormone) levels are normal you are probably very sensitive to their effects. You could take an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Dianette (Diane35 in the USA). Rather than shaving, have you tried facial hair removing cream? It will be a more pleasant experience for you, and the results will last much longer than shaving. Laser treatment carried out at a skin clinic can permanently remove hair.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Chris is right when it comes to advanced prostate cancer. There is no permanent cure but you can beat the odds. To answer your question, you still have PSA-only recurrence. Such increases are not accompanied by symptoms, signs, or imaging evidence of locally recurrent or metastatic disease.
2061409 tn?1330954895 This implies that both factors (interferon-induced depression and functional androgen deficiency) may independently affect the extent of male sexual dysfunction in patients with chronic hepatitis C and therapy with interferon alfa-2b. It is important to note that we do not postulate a causative relationship for each single factor (depression, androgen deficiency) – in contrast we propose that both may be permissive with respect to symptoms of sexual dysfunction.
Avatar m tn Hi, I do understand that the testosterone levels are low in your case and there are several guidelines developed by several groups who recommend the testosterone therapy in the ageing male. However, It has not been definitively established that the decline in testosterone seen in most aging men results in an androgen deficient state with health-related outcomes that can be improved by testosterone therapy. Hence, I’ll not recommend the same.
Avatar n tn Have you had your androgen levels checked? It is unwise to prescribe anti-androgen birth control pills to a patient over 50, but you could take an anti-androgen medicine like Spironolactone. Would you consider taking Accutane again? Why was a second course not prescribed after the initial one resulted in failure or relapse? I wear Dermablend make-up by Vichy. It offers full coverage without looking false (see my pictures). Eloise.
Avatar m tn I’m on testosterone replacement therapy since August of 2009 but I’m afraid of the possible side effects like prostate problem. My question, is it possible if I decide to discontinue my testosterone replacement therapy? I really need your opinion.
Avatar m tn Hi - as noted, I'm trying to get information about androgen deprivation therapy - but I have no primary care physician, and no prescriptions. I'm a 47 male in pretty good health otherwise. The issue relates more to extreme sexual frustration than anything else. I've been to multiple therapists/counselors over the years, but I just can't take it anymore.
Avatar n tn It is embarrassing and I am looking for suggestions of what to do ...medications? chemical peels? light therapy? anything?????
Avatar m tn Could I have an androgen secreting tumor since all estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid levels are within normal range? Or is there something else I am missing? I am scheduled for an appointment with GP in two weeks, but I cannot stop thinking that something more is going on.
Avatar f tn If over the counter products are of limited benefit, have laser therapy, a chemical peel, or microdermabrasion at a skin clinic. To prevent future acne switch to an anti-androgen birth control pill called Diane35 (also called Dianette). Talk to your doctor about its features and benefits. Eloise.
1332551 tn?1275658929 Acne is caused by high androgen levels. Androgen levels are commonly raised during times of hormonal change including puberty and after delivery of a baby. Face washes alone will not heal acne. Your doctor can prescribe a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily and a topical retinoid cream called Differin (adapalene). Female acne patients may also benefit from taking an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Yasmin or Diane35.
1208452 tn?1266336929 The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level than is normal in females. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. You need to consult an endocrine specialist to rule out these problems. Treatment can be laser removal, hormone therapy and local creams. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn According to the brochure the drug should be out of your system, a month after ending the therapy. Has there been any research done regarding prolonged effects and the birth of children. Please help. Would you recommend taking the medication or not? Thank you so much for your help!
Avatar m tn Temporary hair removal can be achieved through depilation or epilation. Drugs like androgen receptor blockers, androgen suppressing agents and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors are also used. Permanent means of hair removal by electrolysis and laser treatment are also useful. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and discuss all the pros and cons of these methods so that the best treatment for you can be decided.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm taking spironolactone 50mg per day + Brenda 35 pill & minoxidil 1mg capsule form each day all for fphl that started in my early 30s after having my only child.... Avatar f tn my husband is 50 he underwent RP in Feb this year and is currently on anti-androgen Casodex which he is to take for 2 years.
1562716 tn?1295008950 Since one ovary and uterus was removed, chances of hormonal imbalance are always there. Thyroid problems and abnormal levels of FSH, LH, prolactin, androgen hormones or male hormones and estrogen hormones can be the cause and hence get this tested. If there is pain on right side, then possibility of gut disorders like colitis, IBS, kidney stones etc should be looked into. The pain can also be due to adhesions formed post surgery. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar m tn 1) Is this your first line of anti-androgen therapy, have you been on a LHRH agonist 2) what are your testosterone levels 3) what is your age 4) did you have surgery or radiation or any other interventions? Avatar n tn Female acne patients can take an anti-androgen medicine called Spironolactone and/or an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35 or Yasmin/Yaz. Severe acne which does not respond to conventional treatments may warrant Oral Isotretinoin. Unfortunately, you will have to avoid direct exposure to UV light (sun/sunbed) whilst using any of these medicines as severe sunburn or hyperpigmentation may occur. Best Wishes, Eloise.
Avatar m tn After that it becomes ineffective.Have you monitored the PSA during therapy? Hormone therapy is just an evasive procedure to slow down the cancer so that other methods have time to act. Your other questions can only be answered by your doctor. I am 64 and went through radiation for my prostate cancer (Gllison Score 8). After radiation PSA is 0.02 before it was 29.
