Avatar n tn I had breast cancer in my right breast 7 yrs. ago, had a lumpectomy, & had chemo. & radiation therapy for that. I couldn't follow up with Temoxaphen because of negative receptors. Cancer was found in my left breast now, so I had a bilateral mastectomy and no cancer cells were found other than in the new cancer site when pathology was done on the removed tissue and nodes. this cancer had positive estrogen receptors. The diagnosis is good and was rated as a "0".
Avatar m tn would there be similar cause and effect to CSCR? Even if CSCR was present prior to androgen therapy?
Avatar f tn Hi everybody, I'm a 20 yr old women who's been dealing with this problem for about 4 months now and it is genuinely making me depressed so I need answers. My hair is stringy, greasy, and sticky (like clumpy) in the back no matter what I wash it in. It is also seems to be spreading. I've tried ketacozonale, t-gel, acv, baking soda, dish soap, nizoral, matrix scalp therapy, and clarifying shampoos. I'm at a loss. My derm was no help.
Avatar m tn You cited the SWOG 8794 study as showing adjuvant radiation reducing the need for androgen ablation. Are you aware of any evidence that hormone therapy combined with adjuvant radiation therapy increases the survival rate or extends the time to biochemical failure, local recurrence or metatastic disease? Is there any preparation that you recommend prior to treatment that can minimize side effects? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Chris is right when it comes to advanced prostate cancer. There is no permanent cure but you can beat the odds. To answer your question, you still have PSA-only recurrence. Such increases are not accompanied by symptoms, signs, or imaging evidence of locally recurrent or metastatic disease.
Avatar f tn Hi. Although your androgen (male hormone) levels are normal you are probably very sensitive to their effects. You could take an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Dianette (Diane35 in the USA). Rather than shaving, have you tried facial hair removing cream? It will be a more pleasant experience for you, and the results will last much longer than shaving. Laser treatment carried out at a skin clinic can permanently remove hair.
2061409 tn?1330954895 This implies that both factors (interferon-induced depression and functional androgen deficiency) may independently affect the extent of male sexual dysfunction in patients with chronic hepatitis C and therapy with interferon alfa-2b. It is important to note that we do not postulate a causative relationship for each single factor (depression, androgen deficiency) – in contrast we propose that both may be permissive with respect to symptoms of sexual dysfunction.
Avatar m tn Hi, I do understand that the testosterone levels are low in your case and there are several guidelines developed by several groups who recommend the testosterone therapy in the ageing male. However, It has not been definitively established that the decline in testosterone seen in most aging men results in an androgen deficient state with health-related outcomes that can be improved by testosterone therapy. Hence, I’ll not recommend the same.
Avatar m tn I’m on testosterone replacement therapy since August of 2009 but I’m afraid of the possible side effects like prostate problem. My question, is it possible if I decide to discontinue my testosterone replacement therapy? I really need your opinion.
Avatar m tn Hi - as noted, I'm trying to get information about androgen deprivation therapy - but I have no primary care physician, and no prescriptions. I'm a 47 male in pretty good health otherwise. The issue relates more to extreme sexual frustration than anything else. I've been to multiple therapists/counselors over the years, but I just can't take it anymore.
Avatar f tn Symptoms of hypogonadism would be expected to improve with testosterone replacement therapy, but erectile dysfunction may persist to some degree because of psychological factors or co-occurring medical conditions. In such cases, prescribing FDA-approved erectile dysfunction medications could be appropriate There has been far less research regarding opiate-induced endocrine deficiencies in women than in men.
Avatar m tn Could I have an androgen secreting tumor since all estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid levels are within normal range? Or is there something else I am missing? I am scheduled for an appointment with GP in two weeks, but I cannot stop thinking that something more is going on.
1208452 tn?1266336929 The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level than is normal in females. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. You need to consult an endocrine specialist to rule out these problems. Treatment can be laser removal, hormone therapy and local creams. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar m tn Temporary hair removal can be achieved through depilation or epilation. Drugs like androgen receptor blockers, androgen suppressing agents and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors are also used. Permanent means of hair removal by electrolysis and laser treatment are also useful. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and discuss all the pros and cons of these methods so that the best treatment for you can be decided.
Avatar f tn my husband is 50 he underwent RP in Feb this year and is currently on anti-androgen Casodex which he is to take for 2 years.
1562716 tn?1295008950 Since one ovary and uterus was removed, chances of hormonal imbalance are always there. Thyroid problems and abnormal levels of FSH, LH, prolactin, androgen hormones or male hormones and estrogen hormones can be the cause and hence get this tested. If there is pain on right side, then possibility of gut disorders like colitis, IBS, kidney stones etc should be looked into. The pain can also be due to adhesions formed post surgery. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar m tn 1) Is this your first line of anti-androgen therapy, have you been on a LHRH agonist 2) what are your testosterone levels 3) what is your age 4) did you have surgery or radiation or any other interventions? Avatar m tn Hirsutism is defined as the excessive hair growth in an androgen dependent pattern where hair growth in women is usually minimal or absent (eg: face, chest, and areolaeas) as a result of increased androgen production, increased skin sensitivity to androgens, or both.

Avatar f tn Is this stage 2 as they have indicated with T2c, or stage 3, based on their comments? The recommended treatment is hormonal therapy (total androgen blockade) and radiation. Is this the best treatment to start with? Will this just slow the growth of the cancer or is there a possibility of curing it? If this treatment does not work, what would be the next step?
1715257 tn?1308732738 Thyroid problems and abnormal levels of FSH, LH, prolactin, androgen hormones or male hormones and estrogen hormones can also be the cause. Hence consult your gynecologist. May be you will benefit with hormone replacement therapy. Numb peripheries can happen due to peripheral vascular disease or disorder of the circulatory system outside of the brain and heart.
Avatar f tn Hello, An elevated circulating total testosterone level and dehydroepiandiosterone sulfate (DHEAS) level have been proposed as screening methods for detecting ovarian and adrenal androgen-secreting neoplasms and PCOS. PCOS is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. So ovaries develop more follicles than normal every month.
Avatar f tn I am thinking of going back to my practice nurse. I am guessing I cannot take a combined pill that contains an anti androgen and I looked up POPs in the BNF and they don't seem to have one containing an anti androgen. I am currently trying so called natural anti androgens (buckwheat and spearmint tea) not sure on what affect they have? Does anyone have any experience of these?
Avatar n tn Were any other androgen tests run - like bio-available testosterone, estrogen, LH, FSH, dhea-sulfate or SHBG? Were any tests run on your heart to determine the skipped beats? Is that a perception, or have you worn a halter monitor to see how things are?
Avatar f tn The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. However your prolactin levels are normal. Sometimes the cause cannot be found out. Check if according to the lab where it was done the testosterone level is inn normal range or not. The normal range varies from lab to lab.
Avatar m tn I have had my adrenals checked using a 4 times per day saliva collection that insurance is now paying for (at least mine is), and also had my thyroid checked as I found I was very low on testosterone and if you have thyroid or adrenal issue, testosterone replacement therapy may not work you. Adrenal fatigue - caused by stress both physical and mental - can cause general and sometimes profound fatigue. The same with hypothyroidism and low androgen levels.
Avatar n tn Were any other androgen levels tests - LH, FSH, dhea sulfate, any testosterone levels, or SHBH? Estrogen and testosterone are related and estrogen comes from multiple sources.
