Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me what causes me to out of the blue once in a while, I get a hot feeling all over, and it is scary, like I think it is is a stroke, but a few minutes later, I am ok again, but scared that it was a bad sign that something is wrong. I asked my doc over the phone after describing the symptoms what it was, only to be told She did not know. Is there anyone here that have had this happen to them? How do I treat it if possible?
Avatar m tn Fast forward to now... I have experienced lactation (no tumors, no blood in milk, and Prolactin level was only 4 NG/ML) and chronic infections (shingles, UTIs, and yeast infections). I went to a dermatologist for severe acne and melasma on my face (dark discoloration on cheeks and forehead). My blood work results showed elevated testosterone(53 H total and 6.6 H free), elevated ANDROSTENEDIONE (260 NG/DL), low RBC 3.63 L), and SQUAMOUS EPI CELLS (6-10 H). Insulin was 3.
Avatar m tn i am a guy. but i there's a small lump in my right areola(??) sometimes it's painful when touch. do men get breast cancer? ... will the lump eventually disappear or need to be surgically removed. i appreciate any professional opinions.
Avatar f tn I am writing for a loved one who is incarcerated in a federal prison. The medical help available there is minimal and he is suffering from small itchy bumps all over his body. They are generally about 1mm in size. They itch, but are not a painful itch, as with scabies or shingles. When popped, there is white stuff that comes out, then clear liquid. Sometimes they scab. Sometimes the same bump will ooze white again. They are not clustered, and to not appear to be due to heat or reactions to food.
Avatar n tn Take an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Dianette (Diane35 in the USA) which provides birth control and clears acne and facial hair. Or take the combined pill Yasmin which is not based on testosterone.
1332551 tn?1275658929 Acne is caused by high androgen levels. Androgen levels are commonly raised during times of hormonal change including puberty and after delivery of a baby. Face washes alone will not heal acne. Your doctor can prescribe a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily and a topical retinoid cream called Differin (adapalene). Female acne patients may also benefit from taking an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Yasmin or Diane35.
Avatar f tn A main underlying problem with PCOS is a hormonal imbalance. In women with PCOS, the ovaries make more androgens than normal. Androgens are male hormones that females also make. High levels of these hormones affect the development and release of eggs during ovulation. Researchers also think insulin may be linked to PCOS. Insulin is a hormone that controls the change of sugar, starches, and other food into energy for the body to use or store.

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm taking spironolactone 50mg per day + Brenda 35 pill & minoxidil 1mg capsule form each day all for fphl that started in my early 30s after having my only child.... I'm tired of the weight staying on & want to stop Brenda pill as it makes my periods very heavy, makes my face all brown & blotchy & isn't letting me lose weight, is there another pill that's suitable with the anti androgen (spiro) that I'm already using?
Avatar m tn Temporary hair removal can be achieved through depilation or epilation. Drugs like androgen receptor blockers, androgen suppressing agents and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors are also used. Permanent means of hair removal by electrolysis and laser treatment are also useful. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and discuss all the pros and cons of these methods so that the best treatment for you can be decided.
Avatar n tn Female acne patients can take an anti-androgen medicine called Spironolactone and/or an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35 or Yasmin/Yaz. Severe acne which does not respond to conventional treatments may warrant Oral Isotretinoin. Unfortunately, you will have to avoid direct exposure to UV light (sun/sunbed) whilst using any of these medicines as severe sunburn or hyperpigmentation may occur. Best Wishes, Eloise.

Avatar n tn Stop drinking and smoking tobacco, make sure you're getting proper nutrition from real food with limited ingredients, cut down on dairy, try to get some exercise, and have sex every 1-2 days, especially when you're ovulating. After sex, try to lay with your hips elevated for 20 minutes. Also, make sure your partner isn't smoking tobacco or marijuana. Both of those are known to decrease the quality of sperm. Most importantly, don't stress about it. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hirsutism is defined as the excessive hair growth in an androgen dependent pattern where hair growth in women is usually minimal or absent (eg: face, chest, and areolaeas) as a result of increased androgen production, increased skin sensitivity to androgens, or both.
Avatar m tn I know laser treatment would be most beneficial but cannot afford it at the moment. What can I do in the meantime to help prevent ingrown hair and pimples in the hair follicle? I also was prescribed spironolactone for the hirsitism to block the androgen receptors but I dont want to disturb K levels and get hyperkalemia. Should I worry about K levels or if a low dose is prescribed it wouldnt be a problem?
1208452 tn?1266336929 The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level than is normal in females. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. You need to consult an endocrine specialist to rule out these problems. Treatment can be laser removal, hormone therapy and local creams. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn During the course of treatment I was perscribed Minocycline, Doxycycline, tetracycline, and sulfa based medications, all resulting in allergic reactions. I was finally placed on Accutane with positive results while taking the drug, however six months after completing treatment, the acne returned again. A year later I resumed taking Accutane, unfortunately, with the same results. At 18, I began a homeopathic course of treatment which consisted of taking a variety of vitamins each day.
Avatar f tn But have never conceived with any other partners in the past. Went to the dr. They say i have symptoms of pcos (facial hair and acne) they tested me and my DHEAS LEVEL and TESTOSTERONE were kinda high but all my other hormones were fine. So they started me on SPRINTEC N SPIRONPROLACTONE and i was wondering will this help or do i need to try METFORMIN OR CLOMID.... i also have a cyst on my right ovary. What is the next step for me.
Avatar m tn I have been having lower back pain, hip pain so i went to a physio. She did an internal exam to find i have a mild/moderate uterine prolapse. I am waiting on a gyny. appointment. I have been experiencing other symptoms also extreme fatigue and abdominal pain. I have autoimmune thyroiditis, hypothyroidism. I am on eltroxin. TSH is elevated Free t4 normal. Avatar f tn Hi, I am 29 years old and I have suspect that I have PCOS. I was overweight/obese as a child and teenager until my early 20s. Aged 21 I started getting excess facial/bodily hair and my weight increased to its highest (can't remember what but I was a UK size 18/US size 22). Then aged 22 my periods went from being 5 days long, 3 days heavy 2 light to lasting just 3 days, none particularly heavy.
Avatar f tn Does excess androgen show up in a simple blood test?
Avatar n tn Hi. The important thing is the active ingredient in this pen. Is it salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide? I agree that if you have isolated pimples with healthy but sensitive skin around them that you need a product you can apply precisely. I like ByeBye Blemish drying lotion. I also like the concealing pen Clinique make which both covers the spot and helps it to heal. If your skin is sensitive you might consider using an oral treatment instead of a topical one.
Avatar f tn Has anyone on this forum ever tried a chemical peel for back acne scarring? I'm taking my daughter to a dermatologist to find out what can be done for her scarring. She has her senior prom coming up in three months, and of course the dress in strapless. My derm doesn't do microdermabrasion. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thaniks.
