Avatar m tn My weight loss is not much yet, but I was wondering if taking these birth control pills is actually the reason for my weight loss? I know birth control pills are supposed to help with hormonal imbalances, so would taking them also enable me to finally start losing weight, despite the fact that so many women say birth control pills cause them to GAIN weight?
Avatar n tn I will start looking immediately for specialists in this area. However, what is the next step if the birth control pills dont work. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions, i realize you are very busy.
Avatar f tn Hello, This looks like side effects of the birth control pills. However for irregularity in periods esepcially if you are overweight, get polycystic ovarian syndrome ruled out. This can also cause continuous bleeding. It is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. So ovaries develop more follicles than normal every month.
Avatar m tn ve been taking birth control pills (as a form of contraception in my long-term relationship and as a treatment in itself). Because I am very afraid of getting pregnant and really do not want kids, I take my pill religiously. I've been considering getting an IUD because I feel there are less things that could happen to mess with my contraception if I had one. The problem is: my PCOs was not controlled by life style choices.
Avatar n tn I was taking birth control for almost 10 years to control my acne in this specific area. The birth control was the only thing keeping the chin acne under control - it was great. Three months ago I stopped taking the birth control with concerns of being on it too long. Should I go back to taking an oral contraceptive or is there other options that can provide the same results? My chin acne is awful! The acne flares up during ovulation and hasn't completely gone away.
Avatar f tn Acne forms when androgens (hormones) stimulate the sebaceous glands. Anti-androgen or combined birth control pills therefore help in clearing and preventing acne. If you have a particular reason for not taking the pill (heavy smoker, overweight, over 35) speak to your doctor about other acne treatments. Oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline are helpful, as are topical retinoids such as Retin-A. Eloise.
Avatar f tn Sharma please do your research. Levonorgestrel is a cause of hair loss in women. Every single birth control that contains high androgen index progestins can cause hair loss. Stop telling women Plan B and birth control pills don’t cause hair loss. They do. The more doctors that understand this - the less of a problem women will have as they can make an informed choice. Please do your research. A simple search on any big BCP air IUD containing high androgen index progestins will show you this.
Avatar n tn You need to use two forms of birth control whilst on Roaccutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. After that the drug will have left your body and there is no risk to a pregnancy conceived after that time. I would recommend Roaccutane if your acne has not responded to adequate courses of oral antibiotics and anti-androgen birth control pills (Dianette/Diane35). I have taken it if you would like to talk. Eloise.
Avatar f tn Hi. Acne and allergies are two unrelated conditions which can co-exist together. Allergies can be treated with anti-histamine tablets such as Piriton. These are avilable without prescription but always read the label. The standard treatment for acne is a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily and a topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene). Female acne patients will also benefit from taking an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35 or Yasmin.
Avatar f tn Do birth control pills affect the outcomes of a herpes blood test? I can't find any information about it. Thanks.
145992 tn?1341345074 I just started taking birth control pills and I haven't been on them in like 10 years. I can't remember what it was like back then so I just don't know if what I'm feeling is normal. I'm going to be starting the third week of them but I feel so bloated and crampy. Is this normal? I feel like I'm going to get my af and it's been like this for a week now.
Avatar f tn I know with my pills it is recommended to make up the pills (take 2 pills a day) until back on schedule and if more than two days are missed in the 2nd week to discontinue packet and use back up BC. When I missed 2 pills I did have breakthrough bleeding but I finished out my pack and started the new pack as scheduled. You could ask your Dr what he/she thinks you should do.
Avatar f tn I hust started a new pack of birth control pills this month. I used to take tri-lo-sprintec tablet generic for (ortho tri-cyclen LO) for the past 6 six years, but in Michigan we do not have it in generic form anymore. Therefore this month i started taking Eth estradi/norgestimate and I feel very lazy and sleepy all the time and I see that I have been gaining weight. My question is is what I am taking now the same as what I was taking before because that is what the pharmacy told me?
Avatar f tn m going to have her try going on birth control pills to see if it will alleviate some of these issues. She is not sexually active and this was totally MY idea. She's very hesitant about it but wants to discuss the pros and cons with the gynocologist. I've made her an appt. for the middle of June but in the meantime I'd like to get informed since it's been years since I've been on the pill and I'm sure they are much better now.
Avatar n tn in my openion...baing a medical student i would suggest never ever take birth controll pills..they induce worse side effects on your reproductive system...and on your whole body..
