I believe that we emit ammonia from our bodies due to to the imbalance in our stomach and digestive track. Are bodies cannot get rid of the excess ammonia properly so it comes out through our pores causing people to sneeze and itch. I'm not a doctor, but I've had this long enough to know this is part of our problem.

My 88 year old father has a very very strong ammonia smell to his urine. We know he has kidney stone (that can't be remove due to health issues). I hate to take him to the doctor's for nothing, but could this be an infection?

My first suggestion would be to go see your regular doctor (not the OB) a regular general practitioner so that you can have a full physical. The urine smell is probably an ammonia smell and there are some causes for an ammonia smell including a skin infection with Helicobacter (this is a bacteria), a high protein diet, liver problems, etc. If everything checks out with your regular doctor, I think my next suggestion would be to see an endocrinologist. Try cutting back a little each day and try having hard candy to suck on when you get the craving to smoke one.

the first thing you do need to do is get the urine smell out, kitty will continually be attracted to his scent on the area. I have had the same problem with one of mine. A product that comes well recommended by Vets on this forum is called 'urine off' you will have to pretest the area before using...than follow with a product by Natures Miracle called 'no more marking'......

The smell that is coming from you is ammonia. Our body is releasing ammonia through our pours since our liver cannot flush it all out. Hence why people react with the itching, sneezing, and coughing.

Unfortunately, a place a cat has peed once is likely to become a potty in her mind. It's difficult to get out the smell to where her sensitive nose won't still detect it. It is made worse by an accelerated sweating and sometimes lack of hygiene. One of my buddies is a crackhead and he can't smell it on himself.

This is unlikely to result in any kind of infection. If the couch leather were teeming with dangerous bacteria, you'd be getting skin infections. Also, since you didn't harbor it in your anus for days, there's no time for bacterial growth to occur. I'd forget about it completely.

would be nice to be off these meds. But I am wondering about the ammonia smell.. I have read it could be my diet ? or my kidneys failing ? I am at a loss and just cannot get rid of this smell.. anyone have any similar symptoms or ideas ?

Hello punchumgum, Personally, I would get rid of this chair. Some leather is treated with strong chemicals that may be toxic to inhale. If your friend has to keep putting it outside to get rid of the smell, to me that's a sign. If in doubt, throw it out. That's the rule in our house. That applies to food as well. You say it was a gift from a family member. She could tell the family member that she was concerned the smell could be toxic and dangerous to herself and her family.

When the liver is struggling it can’t convert protein properly and it ends up as ammonia that passes out into the blood stream and makes our body toxic. Ammonia is an irritant that causes dry throats, coughing, sneezing etc. This theory ties up with people who have stopped eating protein and moved to a plant based diet, giving up alcohol which damages the liver, and more recently someone saying tamarind had helped them. Just a thought that this could be worth further investigation.

It seems that the smell of urine is a strong indicator for diabetics, the ammonia smell in a diabetic is usually due to dehydration, so yes not drinking enough can be the reason for your urine smelling like ammonia. There are other causes too, and i would hope that it wasn't just assumed to be because you have diabetes and that you have had tests to rule them out eg urinary track infection. I notice this ammonia smell with my sweat.Now I always sweat heavy when I work out. But this ammonia smell new. Other than this smell aim fine losing some weight.

so I looked for a regular doctor ,he told me to go to a dermatologist,the dermatologist asked me to wear leather shoes and to buy some anti bacteria meds to apply but didnt made anything..after him i went to foot doctor,she asked me to buy some chemicals and apply but still nothing...

Our daughter was allergic to something in leather and has never been able to wear leather shoes. You could smell when she came into the house!

I was on Effexor for 6 months and the sweating was terrible. I also gained about 20 pounds. I decided I couldn't take any more of the sweating so I just stopped taking it. BAD IDEA!!! My husband was ready to have me commited. My doctor has put me on Pristiq. And it is much better. No more sweating, thank God.
