Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia toxicity rats

ammonia

Avatar f tn When offspring were tested as adults, neurobehavioral abnormalities (decreased auditory startle responding) were observed at ≥250 mg/kg and reproductive impairment (decreased fertility and litter size) was seen at 1250 mg/kg. The no-effect dose for pre- and postnatal developmental toxicity in rats (50 mg/kg) produced a plasma exposure approximately 2 times human exposure at the MRD. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Avatar n tn If I expose lab rats to lead in their water supply, will they contract lung cancer? For a science experiment, I need to induce rats with a carcinogen that will cause only lung cancer.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me yes at my last visit when I asked, just ammonia free and a well ventilated area...
317787 tn?1473358451 Monitoring of food consumption, gain in body weight and physical observations did not reveal any treatment-related toxicity in any of the group of rats. Terminal autopsy also did not reveal any signs of toxicity. Further, no significant alterations in relative organ weight, serum biochemistry and urinalysis were observed up to 1% lactulose supplementation level. The results suggest that supplementation of lactulose in the diet does not produce any toxicity at the doses tested.
Avatar f tn she has continued to take the Lactolose for the past two weeks but today her ammonia level is 150. I would like to find out how high ammonia level can go before it is considered toxic and will cause her to go into a coma? I am also wondering in end stage cirrhosis will the lactolose eventually be uneffective in bringing down the ammonia levels? My final question is what kind of life expectancy is there when the cirrohsis remains at that level?

Avatar n tn According to what you posted, he was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome - which is a genetic disorder. There is no cure. From the symptoms you describe, that seems to fit. Other than physical therapy and other care that is similar, I don't really have any other ideas.
163305 tn?1333668571 Michael Antoniou’s team at King’s College London was a followup investigation of the long-term (2-year) toxicity study in rats of Roundup conducted by Dr. Gilles-Eric Seralini and colleagues (Seralini et al., 2014). The Seralini investigation administered a commercial Roundup formulation at 0.1 ppb (parts per billion)/50 ppt (parts per trillion) glyphosate via drinking water for 2 years.
925572 tn?1246540031 e., 500 mg/day). However, maternal toxicity and secondary fetal toxicity producing reduced fetal weight and/or delayed ossification were seen in mice and rats, but not in rabbits at these doses. Teratology studies were also conducted using bolus intravenous administration of the isethionate salt of lamotrigine in rats and rabbits. In rat dams administered an intravenous dose at 0.
Avatar n tn In February 2000 researchers in Madrid announced they had destroyed incurable brain tumors in rats by injecting them with THC, the active ingredient in cannabis. The study was later published in the journal Nature Cancer Review. Chances are that you have never heard of this study, the same as you likely never heard of a previous similar study because there has been a virtual news blackout as well as a concerted government effort to suppress such stories and studies for over thirty years.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category C Tramadol has been shown to be embryotoxic and fetotoxic in mice, (120 mg/kg or 360 mg/m2), rats (≥25 mg/kg or 150 mg/m2) and rabbits (≥75 mg/kg or 900 mg/m2) at maternally toxic dosages, but was not teratogenic at these dose levels. These dosages on a mg/m2 basis are 1.4, ≥0.6, and ≥3.6 times the maximum daily human dosage (246 mg/m2) for mouse, rat and rabbit, respectively.
Avatar n tn I go for allergy shpts every week in the summer time which usually help. I am quite allergic to cats and rats and some dog hairs. an d probably more but I am not around any other animals. My son brought a non allergetic cat ( Korat ) into the house about a year ago and i have a small amount of reaction to it..and now he brought in 2 rats. They are upstairs in his room and in a cage all the time.
Avatar f tn s not the problem. The problem is the pee and ammonia in the poo. If you use a mask like dentists use and gloves. Or just cover your mouth and nose with a plastic bag. (Don't suffocate) and clean it. Then you're fine. Otherwise you'll have to send the cat out. Eventually I did. I always refused to take my cat out but it became a hassle to be taking extra caution.
1008841 tn?1293598960 In terms of diet, I believe you should be avoiding as much salt as possible, and at least for the short term, reduce animal proteins to avoid complications of ammonia toxicity. Try to limit your protein intake to things like legumes and soy products; they are less likely to metabolize into ammonia in your gut. Protein is an important component of your diet though; be sure to confirm any info you gather here with your doctor.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. These ammonia toxicity theories have been supported by studies demonstrating increased ammonia levels in patients with both fulminant hepatic failure and chronic liver disease.
Avatar m tn Reproduction studies, conducted in male and female rats, found no evidence of impaired fertility or reproductive performance at oral doses approximately 15 times the maximum human dose on a mg/m2 basis (MHD) (1). No teratogenic effects were observed in rats, rabbits, and monkeys at oral doses approximately 6, 4, and 3 times, respectively, the MHD, although maternal toxicity was evident at these dose levels.
233616 tn?1312787196 Groups of male and female inbred Leeds strain rats were fed diets containing either 0.5% or 1.0% paracetamol by weight for up to 18 months. At the 1.0% dosage level, 20% of rats of both sexes developed neoplastic nodules of the liver, a statistically significant incidence. These rats also showed gross enlargement of their livers and an increase in foci of cellular alteration, the latter also being observed in the low dosage male rats.
Avatar m tn CCl4-treated rats (0.5 ml of CCl4 twice a week ip) fed standard chow for up to 12 weeks (Group A); treated rats fed chow supplemented with 25 mg/kg folic acid from weeks 6 to 12 (Group B); treated rats fed a standard diet but with CCl4 discontinued after 6 weeks to allow for tissue recovery over 4 weeks (Group C); rats as Group C but fed a diet supplemented with 25 mg/kg folic acid from weeks 6 to 10 (Group D).
Avatar m tn This approach results in high-potency knockdown of a target gene, validated in mice, rats, and non-human primates and it has demonstrated a low toxicity profile in primates enabling long term dosing. "The promotion of ARC-520 as a clinical candidate, so soon after acquiring the Roche RNAi assets, represents an important milestone for Arrowhead," said Dr. Chris Anzalone, President and Chief Executive Officer of Arrowhead.
208764 tn?1249429657 Chlorine dioxide is also superior to chlorine when operating above pH7, in the presence of ammonia and amines and/or for the control of biofilms in water distribution systems. Chlorine dioxide is used in many industrial water treatment applications as a biocide including cooling towers, process water and food processing. Chlorine dioxide is less corrosive than chlorine and superior for the control of legionella bacteria.

Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
