680807 tn?1304496587 Hey Rita, Your question has come through to the MS community, and not the diabetic community, so ammonia smelling urine may not be something many have experienced. I'd heard of it but couldn't remember much, so I did a simple google search "diabetic urine smells of ammonia", there is a lot that comes up that you might find helpful in understanding it.
Avatar m tn Aim playing racket ball three times a week for well 2-3 hours. I notice this ammonia smell with my sweat. Now I always sweat heavy when I work out. But this ammonia smell new. Other than this smell aim fine losing some weight.
Avatar n tn 5 and 275 pounds. His sweat has began smelling like STRONG ammonia. It is sickening to me. I read where this could be a problem with the liver. Should he talk to the doctor about having a liver test. Is this drug broken down through the liver?
Avatar n tn It would be a good idea for you to drive him as he is a hazard to other people not only himself, I dont know about smelling ammonia but I wondered if he eats before he goes out as it could be low blood suger or even diabetes he should have a sugar test done, does he take any meds as sometimes there are side effects, any anti histimines that are not non-drowsy? If he passes out he definatly should go back to the Doctor and tell him and DO NOT let him drive ...
Avatar f tn Bacteria that contaminate the urine will convert chemicals in the urine into smelling chemicals that are responsible for the distinctive smell, such as ammonia. You can give his urine sample for testing. With a kidney stone chances of infection are high. Some foods like proteins cause the excretion of nitrogen compounds (ammonia and urea). Hence these foods can be reduced in diet. Hope these tips help. If symptoms persist consult an urologist.
12773 tn?1328913186 but sent it off anyway, and will get back to me, one thing I didnt mention to her was the smell of Ammonia I had started smelling the day before. Its not on my skin, or anything, I do bathe everyday and use soap. But just in my nose. I have been a bit snuffy and hoarse the past few days, as a sick co worker refuses to cover her mouth. , but doc says there is alot of that going around.
Avatar n tn For example, a person with a failing liver or kidneys may smell of ammonia...A diabetic with blood sugar problems may smell like Juicy Fruit gum...Someone with a throat or lung infection may have horrid smelling breath..Someone with a yeast overgrowth will smell sour...Hopefully this helps...
Avatar f tn I was taking Nature Throid but discontinued because of a weird side effect- strong ammonia-smelling sweat while exercising. Has anyone heard of that before? I was concerned about my kidneys... And had to wash exercise clothes several time to get rid of the smell. What would cause this?
Avatar f tn Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. A routine urine examination along with a urine culture will be able to detect the problem. Drink plenty of fluids and water and see if that helps. Also if you are on crash diets etc then protein breakdown can cause an ammonia smell. Also diet rich in protein can be the cause.
Avatar f tn ^^ ammonia free hair dye is safe : )
Avatar n tn I've noticed that from time to time, but becoming more frequent, my urine has a strong ammonia smell. The color is fairly normal - clear to golden - but the smell is there! I don't have pain or burning while urinating nor do I go to the toilet more often than usual. So what can be the cause? Thanks for any ideas.
Avatar n tn Dear Sir, I'm not sure if this is the best forum, but it seems the closest fit. I'm a 30 year old British guy, 5'11", 175lbs. At the moment I'm working overseas, and likely to be doing so for at least the next 6 months. For a few weeks now I've been noticing wafts of what I can only describe as the smell of Ammonia. I cant be sure where the smell is coming from - it's quite obvious if I breath in really deep through my nose a few times.
Avatar f tn When I do any cardiovascular exercise and start to get winded, I get a very strong ammonia like smell in my nose, like it is coming out of my lungs. This smell is not coming from outside my body, but internally. It's almost like the alcohol smell that goes up the back of your nose when you drink a shot of liquor. I have had this all my life and just sort of assumed it was the same for everybody, but apparently other people don't have the same thing. What could be causing it?
Avatar f tn Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Usually the odor from a UTI is described as like ammonia. Glad your daughter is OK. My daughter and I have history of UTI's too.
Avatar n tn Lately when I urinate, it smells very strongly, but not of ammonia or of any of the other common complaints; more like animal urine (a very strong urine smell). I drink a lot of water, urinate regularly, and have no other symptoms. What could this be, should I be worried?
Avatar m tn The last blood draw, the blood looked like a purplish bloody marry. Any ideas as to why the blood discoloration and high ammonia. I'm also on my own low sodium/low protein diet. Thanks for your consideration in this matter.
Avatar n tn Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown. With increased frequency of urine UTI, bladder infection and diabetes have to be ruled out. Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Avatar f tn A good way to know is smell it. If its sweet smelling its prob your water but if its more ammonia its pee. Also ur water would continue to leak more so when your laying down then when u stand. I would go in and get it checked out if u haavent already u dont want an infection and u dont want babe arriving this early.
Avatar f tn and thats her way of telling you that she loves you very very much! and the ammonia smelling pee yes it will dye down but there will still be an ammonia smell!!
Avatar n tn increased ammonia in urine - occurring as a result of dehydration or a bladder infection, infection with trichomonas vaginalis, hypermethioninemia, and Trimethylaminuria. As the last two are uncommon conditions, it would be better to rule out the initial two causes. If your urine is very pale yellow, it is unlikely that you are dehydrated. However, it would not hurt to ensure that fluid intake is maintained over 2000 ml.
Avatar n tn Recently, I have been smelling something similar to urine that is nonexistent, walking through the grocery store (different grocery stores), in the pool, in the yard, one minute it is there stronger than life and the next it is gone. Today when it happened I was in the pool with my sister, she didn't smell anything. I have actually had to leave stores because the smell was so overpowering, yet no one else seemed to notice. Is this just my imagination? Should I have it checked out?
Avatar n tn If you are smelling it every where then definitely the odor is strong and needs to be investigated. There could be something wrong with your husband medically. Please do not ignore it. Generally bad odor is due to infection, mainly by E coli. This can be diagnosed by urine culture. Strong fruity odor is due to uncontrolled diabetes. Urinary bladder infection and kidney infections do produce strong smelling urine. Another reason is dehydration. Strong ammonia smell is due to protein breakdown.
