Avatar f tn This is a very debated topic, technically yes it is safe as long as you use ammonia free and have good venting, I would say get it done professional...
Avatar n tn Normav, I'd encourage you to ask your father's doctors these questions. I know it's often difficult to get them to spend 5 minutes with you answering questions in language that you understand, but insist on it. An ammonia level of 400 is extremely high. If your father has been in the hospital for 3 weeks with liver failure and his ammonia is still this high, it sounds pretty grim to me.
Avatar m tn The most recent has been memory loss...confusion like. We have conversations and he asks questions about thing he previous knew. Or forgets things we talked about before. And there has been a pugent smell of ammonia in the house. And it is gone when he leaves. This just started after the past weekends binge. For example...last night he came home early wanting something he had already eaten over the weekend. He told me several times before he had eaten it. But last night...
Avatar n tn My labs according to my Dr are usually close to perfect, yet my ammonia level does fluctuate up and down. I am on Lactolose (sp?) I was a heavy drinker, and went in to renal and hepatic shut down. I was told that my liver looked like someone rubbed it with glass sand paper. I quit drinking over 500 days ago, but what worries me is that in most cases of cirrhosis the liver shrinks, but mine is swollen causing me severe upper right quadrant pain. I am on a Fent patch and dilaudid as needed.
Avatar f tn No, fish oil needs no refrigeration if it's in gel caps. It's the flax seed oil that needs the refrigeration.
Avatar f tn I have a question, my mother passed away a couple of days ago and all I can think of was her last days at the hospital, my question is, when a person that is awaiting a liver transplant and has many other problems that are going bad and her ammonia levels keeps rising and out of a sudden they can't respond back to any questions, can they understand what you are saying to them?
Avatar f tn she has continued to take the Lactolose for the past two weeks but today her ammonia level is 150. I would like to find out how high ammonia level can go before it is considered toxic and will cause her to go into a coma? I am also wondering in end stage cirrhosis will the lactolose eventually be uneffective in bringing down the ammonia levels? My final question is what kind of life expectancy is there when the cirrohsis remains at that level?
Avatar f tn sorry i hav no idea on ammonia etc i am wanting to know more now. why do we get ammonia build up?does every1 with hep c hav to get tested regulary?
Avatar n tn Hi there, Tammy is right. But, specifically the guidance says "Room temperature storage up to 30 days, if refrigeration is unavailable" Note: if refrigeration is unavailable Personally, I feel this does not include varying room temperatures and I would not advise anyone to leave it out in hi (hot) temperatures. But, that's my personal opinion. Would only feel comfortable to do something like that if I knew the temperatures at which the forumula/medicine would change.
Avatar m tn Most ammonia is produced in the intestine by colonic breakdown of nitrogenous compounds and enterocytic catabolism of amino acids. Other sources of ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized in the liver and promptly excreted through the kidneys or colon. Formation of glutamine from glutamate, by glutamine synthetase, in the liver and brain is another means of detoxifying ammonia.
Avatar f tn He was admitted Monday night with severe confusion. His ammonia level was 152 and WBC/RBC and hemaglobin were extremely low. Treatment was started immediately to lower the ammonia level. Wednesday was 149, yesterday was 230 and today was 190. The doctor said it isn't responding to treatment, although the medicine definitely is keeping him cleaned out. They gave him platelets last night, but the level dropped even lower today.
Avatar m tn My wife suffered another high ammonia attack that put her on a ventilator and intensive care for 10 days. she has end stage liver but was doing fine until this. Now she cant talk or control her body in the hospital now 11 days. We think she knows us and can answer simple questions with her head but that is it. Will she recover ? or does this mean she is close to dyeing or remaining like this the rest of her life ? We don't know what to do at this point and we are very worried.
10064121 tn?1415176073 The lactation specialist at my hospital said it's good for 12 hours no refrigeration. 36 hours refrigeration. 1 month in the door of a normal freezer. 3 months in a deep freeze.
Avatar f tn After refrigeration, if my baby does not finish all the breastmilk, how long is it good for at room temp???
Avatar n tn My sister has liver failure, but I feel like I am getting more questions than answers, what are the right questions to ask to find out where she is in the process, she is currently in a rehab to get back on her feet after spending 30 days in the ICU restrained do to confusion, she has a very disteneded belly and has alot of diarrhea also using a walker to get around, this is her 3rd time in the hospital for drinkig and ammonia levels so high she was out of her mind, there is no talk of a drainin
219241 tn?1413537765 s FDA) say that it should be refrigerated too. Australia is the only country to decide that refrigeration is the best way to store under 25 C. (77 F) There are many arguments about whether this correct. It is a hormone, a very sensitive one so it makes sense to me. I know that we are about to get 'blister packs' which will be much better for dispersing and avoiding condensation problems from in and out of fridge, and contamination from handling.
Avatar n tn There is a slight advantage to Pegasys (alfa-2a) The Pegasys needs refrigeration.
Avatar n tn I am afraid to go to sleep this evening as he might not be responsive in the am. He has been in the hospital 3 times this month already for high ammonia levels.
867748 tn?1239475891 I just signed up here online and have questions that my Doctors either are not answering or don't know the answers. The most important one is about higher than normal ammonia levels. They happened to have admitted me 31 times to the hospital because I get so loopy and confused. Are they as dangerous to my health as I assume they are?
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar n tn My husband's ammonia level is @ 68; 2 weeks ago was @ 60. He is currently taking Lactulose 15 ml twice a day; 2 weeks ago he was lethargic, confused and had extremely poor coordination, was diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy. He has dramatically improved but his ammonia level continues to rise. He was advised to increase the lactulose to 30 ml twice a day for 5 days and then resume back to 15 ml twice a day. Is there any other medication for elevated ammonia?
