Avatar f tn By the way HE is not diagnosed by ammonia levels. Not all patients with HE have high ammonia levels. It is diagnosed by observation as it is a Hepatic encephalopathy is defined as a spectrum of neuropsychiatric abnormalities in patients with liver dysfunction, after exclusion of other known brain disease. Hepatic encephalopathy is characterized by personality changes, intellectual impairment, and a depressed level of consciousness.
Avatar f tn No, fish oil needs no refrigeration if it's in gel caps. It's the flax seed oil that needs the refrigeration.
Avatar m tn Most ammonia is produced in the intestine by colonic breakdown of nitrogenous compounds and enterocytic catabolism of amino acids. Other sources of ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized in the liver and promptly excreted through the kidneys or colon. Formation of glutamine from glutamate, by glutamine synthetase, in the liver and brain is another means of detoxifying ammonia.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Tammy is right. But, specifically the guidance says "Room temperature storage up to 30 days, if refrigeration is unavailable" Note: if refrigeration is unavailable Personally, I feel this does not include varying room temperatures and I would not advise anyone to leave it out in hi (hot) temperatures. But, that's my personal opinion. Would only feel comfortable to do something like that if I knew the temperatures at which the forumula/medicine would change.
10064121 tn?1415176073 The lactation specialist at my hospital said it's good for 12 hours no refrigeration. 36 hours refrigeration. 1 month in the door of a normal freezer. 3 months in a deep freeze.
Avatar m tn my eleven year old nephew is still having number 2 accidents, we asked his doctor about this and he said it is diet related. We have tried changing his diet but he is still having accidents, my sister thinks it is due to laziness. I think it is psychological or a physical problem. No one seems to be as concerned with this problem as myself.
Avatar f tn I am concerned about my 8 yr. old. We have been trying to work with him on his responsibility. Up until now he has taken very little responsibility for his actions, but I've figured that is normal, and a progress, but lately it has been worse than ever, and he has started having poopy underwear. I've asked if they are accidents, or a lack of bathroom hygiene, but I don't really get an answer. He has always had trouble keeping his underwear dry, but very rarely clean.

219241 tn?1413537765 s FDA) say that it should be refrigerated too. Australia is the only country to decide that refrigeration is the best way to store under 25 C. (77 F) There are many arguments about whether this correct. It is a hormone, a very sensitive one so it makes sense to me. I know that we are about to get 'blister packs' which will be much better for dispersing and avoiding condensation problems from in and out of fridge, and contamination from handling.
400358 tn?1320234443 I have read that if the cleaner you use has ammonia in it that puppies can mistake it as urine smells. I would be thinking uti except for that she is holding it all night. Some puppies take longer. I am right here with you as I have a 17 weeker. Some days it goes beautifully, others there are a few accidents. But, the crate should only allow him/her enough room to go in and turn around. That is the most secure for them.

Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar n tn Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors.
190885 tn?1333025891 I am assuming you have cirrhosis? (I have a list of cirrhotics but I know it doesn't include everyone with cirrhosis here). Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and brain fog are two different conditions. "Brain fog" has nothing to do with ammonia levels. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.
Avatar m tn Ammonia odor can be associated with H. pylori. Ammonia can also be associated with urine and fecal material and not due to H. pylori.
Avatar n tn Yes it does. High levels of ammonia cause hepatic encephalopathy which in turn can cause confusion, sleepiness and forgetfulness. There are medications to help lower those levels. Speak to your hep doc.

1475202 tn?1536270977 Which is why patients with overt HE are advised to avoid red meats which during digestion create a lot of ammonia. Other sources of serum ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized by the liver. When the liver function is impaired, shunting of blood around the liver, and increased muscle wasting all lead to increased serum ammonia levels in cirrhotic patients. But ammonia isn't the only toxin involved in HE.
