Avatar m tn But usually pH is around 7.0. In case acid from my stomach is coming back to my mouth, should it appear on a pH test? Or buffering is so strong that it would very quickly neutralize any effect of the acid? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I would be suspicious of the PH specialist’s alleged statement that “it can’t be PH because the RHC back in 209 couldn’t be wrong.” Perhaps you misunderstood what he/she said but what was found (or not) then is much less important than what is going on now, with the reduced diffusion capacity, the “dry cough” the elevated ECHO PA pressures and your having become “increasingly symptomatic”.
Avatar n tn Before going down the Proton Pump Inhibitor, or pH Blocking Medication highway. I would suggest that you get a pH Diagnostic test, not one that uses a naso-gastric tube, which can be higly traumatic. It is very possible that you are suffering from Hyperchlorhydria, or the over Production of HCL by the Guts Parietal Cell. This condition will lead to Delayed emptying, or marked delayed emptying of the Gut. Patients with Hyperchlorhydria will retain nutrients in the Gut.
1134500 tn?1260875857 after reaserch on my machine i was exposed to ammonia gas given off from sodium nitrate in the water, the ph level was 12 when i found out after ph of 7 ammonia gas is given off,i was not protected by any ppe.the question was can this chemical cause my cluster headaches,as i know ammonia can trigger them off but dont know about causing them...thanks glen.
Avatar m tn I'm a 29year old female with no prior history of lung or heart disorders. I've never smoked. I've always been extremely athletic. Before April 2010, I would work out 4 hrs a day doing varies training regiments. I would run over 20miles/week plus train muay thai and rock climb. I'm 5'6" and I've always been around 130-135lbs. In April 2010, I was unable to walk to the kitchen w/SOB (gain 20lbs), chest pains, dizzy, HR <46 and fatigue.
Avatar n tn I smell ammonia. No one else can smell it. This happens off and on and in many different locations. I have read that this happens to people after a weight training session but I don't work out. It has happened when I was just sitting reading a book. I have seen my GP secondary to ill feeling for a year. The only abnormal labs are slightly elevated sed rate and slightly elevated WBC. I have muscle pain and weakness and extreme fatigue. My Doctor says he has no idea what is wrong with me.
Avatar n tn In the context of advanced liver disease, elevated serum ammonia is often a product of protein metabolism, or the lack of it. Protein, and particularly meat protein produces ammonia in the colon; and while a healthy liver can manage this, a cirrhotic liver is often incapable of removing it. This results in ‘brain fog’, or hepatic encephalopathy. It can often be effectively managed with the drug ‘Lactulose’; a laxative that encourages frequent bowel movements.
Avatar f tn Anyone else have this? I'm 35 weeks and my urine smells like ammonia. No burning when I go no fever...
Avatar m tn Most ammonia is produced in the intestine by colonic breakdown of nitrogenous compounds and enterocytic catabolism of amino acids. Other sources of ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized in the liver and promptly excreted through the kidneys or colon. Formation of glutamine from glutamate, by glutamine synthetase, in the liver and brain is another means of detoxifying ammonia.
Avatar f tn As it turns out, the feuding over whether or not to ****** is still somewhat alive, although I gather the concensus is that sparingly and in moderation, using a slightly acidic pH (hence dilute vinegar in water) is not terribly harmful. Most medical experts seem to agree that the healthy female internal genitalia are indeed self-cleansing, and it is not difficult to upset a rather delicate balance of pH and beneficial microbes.
Avatar n tn I am afraid to go to sleep this evening as he might not be responsive in the am. He has been in the hospital 3 times this month already for high ammonia levels.
Avatar m tn This Ph lowering is done through a system you have called the PH buffering system. It can be stimulated in a few ways to raise back up to a high PH, which leaves your body more alert and awake, and feeling of more energy. If this PH remains too low for too long your blood remains on the acidic side "Low ph" and that is called acidosis. Cancer thrives in that environment, along with others, but others haven't been proven yet.
1008841 tn?1293598960 Hi there, I once had the same question you have now. I believe that the lactulose reduces the ammonia in your gut and brain and that's why it is important to take, if the ammonia gets too high it can cause you to have problems thinking, driving, cooking etc. I am not as good as explaining things as Hector so I have taken one of his explanations and am pasting it here. I also just read an explanation that the lactulose helps your body do the job the liver would do if it was working right.
Avatar m tn I know this sounds gross, but try drinking some apple cider vinager once a day. I had the same problem that u have. What u have is high ph levels and high ammonia levels. I had a nurse tell me about the applecider vinager. Also try wearing painty liners that r deorderant type. Hope this helps you.
Avatar f tn OMG! I am having the same issue. The discoloration and the ammonia smell. It seems like it started pretty recently. Do either of you happen to have an IUD? I thought maybe that would be where it comes from. Does anyone know how to help this?
Avatar n tn During the day, you stand more, and your immune is up along with your PH balance. At night your bodies own Buffering system buffers your PH down. This is so that you become tired and slow down and sleep. Lower PH means less oxygen to the brain and body. Less of that means the brain begins to strain and become tired for lack of oxygen to keep it running on high. Exercise brings PH up and is why you think clearer after a good workout. Simply by more oxygen to the brain.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. Ammonia interferes with brain function at many sites. Ammonia crosses the blood-brain barrier and directly depresses the central nervous system.
189269 tn?1189755825 "I will get up to get something from the living room to the kitchen, in that short period of time stand there forgetting what I was doing. " ---------------------------------- When I find myself in that situation, unfortunately, I have to blame it on the onset of age (or dementia), as I can't blame it on either HCV or treatment!
Avatar f tn at the same time it would itch inside my vagina, I also had an ammonia smell every morning I wake up to pee but doing the day it has a normal smell. Can anyone tell me what could it be?
Avatar f tn He was admitted Monday night with severe confusion. His ammonia level was 152 and WBC/RBC and hemaglobin were extremely low. Treatment was started immediately to lower the ammonia level. Wednesday was 149, yesterday was 230 and today was 190. The doctor said it isn't responding to treatment, although the medicine definitely is keeping him cleaned out. They gave him platelets last night, but the level dropped even lower today.
Avatar f tn By using lactulose and rifaximin in the proper amounts the levels of ammonia and other toxins are reduced. The ammonia is created when food such as animal protein is not being digested properly. The rifaximin modifies the breakdown of food in the intestine. Lactulose keeps the digested food from staying in the intestines and creating ammonia and other toxins. I have had various levels of HE and when my mind is clear I can think as well as ever. Many friends have been comatose from HE.
3138931 tn?1350940318 I wouldn't worry about it if I were her, although this is only my 2nd, I felt her MUCH later than I felt my son. She could have her placenta in the front this time, too, buffering the movement, or her baby could be facing her spine so she's not feeling the movement.
Avatar m tn Most painkillers seem to have Tylenol added as a buffering agent. Your Dr. could change you to Percocet 10/325. Better pain relief with less Tylenol. Best to find the cause of the pain, however as narcotic pain relievers have a high rate of abuse & addiction and over time your body builds up tolerances to them.
