ammonia

Avatar f tn Are you talking about Magnesium Hydroxide/Aluminum Hydroxide? Are you taking this to help with w/d symptoms from opiates or have you been taking this separately & feel you've abused it?
Avatar f tn Yes, it is safe to take Advanced Maalox while pregnant. Aluminum hydroxide magnesium hydroxide; simethicone is classified in FDA pregnancy risk category C. When used occasionally at recommended doses not exceeding package labeling, aluminum and magnesium containing antacids have not been found to produce teratogenic effects and are generally considered safe for use during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Mellie has been taking Aluminum Hydroxide (10 ml) with food each meal, but today she had violent diarrhea and vomited last night's steak. She doesn't have long - I finally coaxed her to eat some boiled chicken and drink at 10 pm - but I am afraid to give any of these meds - she feels so bad. I gave her Cerenia. No more vomitting/diarrhea today, but there nothing inside her...
19691093 tn?1488194069 On January 3, I started giving him Aluminium Hydroxide gel powder as a phosphorous binder. (His bloodwork from February 3 showed phosphorous at 4.4, which was previously at 6.3 on December 19.) Today is February 24, and 4 days ago on February 20, I stopped giving Bebe the Aluminium Hydroxide because of suspected allergic reactions. On February 8, Bebe started pawing at his face more than usual.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar n tn Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors.
Avatar f tn I would stay away from liquid antacids such a Maalox, Mylanta, Gelucil, etc. as they contain aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone and may affect absorption.
190885 tn?1333025891 I am assuming you have cirrhosis? (I have a list of cirrhotics but I know it doesn't include everyone with cirrhosis here). Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and brain fog are two different conditions. "Brain fog" has nothing to do with ammonia levels. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.
Avatar m tn Ammonia odor can be associated with H. pylori. Ammonia can also be associated with urine and fecal material and not due to H. pylori.
Avatar n tn Yes it does. High levels of ammonia cause hepatic encephalopathy which in turn can cause confusion, sleepiness and forgetfulness. There are medications to help lower those levels. Speak to your hep doc.

1475202 tn?1536270977 Which is why patients with overt HE are advised to avoid red meats which during digestion create a lot of ammonia. Other sources of serum ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized by the liver. When the liver function is impaired, shunting of blood around the liver, and increased muscle wasting all lead to increased serum ammonia levels in cirrhotic patients. But ammonia isn't the only toxin involved in HE.
Avatar f tn sorry i hav no idea on ammonia etc i am wanting to know more now. why do we get ammonia build up?does every1 with hep c hav to get tested regulary?
