Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia exposure

Avatar f tn I was never thought to have ADHD but it feels like I do now. I am wondering if I exposed myself to inhaling ammonia/clorox while cleaning and these symptoms are the longterm effects, two or three years later. It has been suggested that I have neuropsych. testing done to pinpoint the memory and cognitive deficits but I am afraid of what I will find out.
Avatar f tn Ahhh, didn't know the varices and elevated ammonia went hand in hand. I'm a stage 3-4, genotype 1a. So did you have any problem with the treatment because of the varices? Any bleeding at all? I'm still having a problem getting a handle on all of this. We're figuring I could have had this since about 1969 when I had blood transfusions following a car accident and this is the first time any of my labs have been other than normal. No signs of this at all.
Avatar m tn When these waste products are not expelled from the body, they create the product of ammonia. Too much ammonia can lead to disorientation and swelling of the brain. If your problem is liver related, you will need to go to a gastroenterologist for exam and bloodwork to measure what is in your blood - including ammonia levels and your liver enzymes. I have had a liver biopsy 2 years ago and found out I had the cirrhosis.

Avatar n tn About 5 months ago I was on vacation in the caribbean, and got far more sun exposure than I normally do. I developed small flesh covered bumps (looks like acne w/ minimal redness) across my forehead. Otherwise, my face is clear of any acne. While there has been improvement, they have not gone away. I was in the sun this past weekend, and again they have gotten worse.
Avatar m tn Also, my breathing was a little strange as though there was a slight chemical ammonia-like almost each time I inhaled. My concerns are about the above coupled with strange stinging, burning pains I've gotten off and on over the last few weeks on the sides of my legs, and on my back near my shoulder blade and some similar type of pains around my fingers. I'm also experiencing some calf cramping in both my calves more so after walking or going up the stairs.

Avatar f tn Chlorine bleach, or sodium hypochlorite, is a lung and eye irritant. If mixed with ammonia or acid-based cleaners (including vinegar), chlorine bleach releases toxic chloramine gas. To be on the safe side, don't mix chlorine bleach with anything -- or just avoid chlorine bleach altogether.
396207 tn?1201538430 When I smell fumes such as chemicals (especially acetone or ammonia) or smoke from cigarettes, the discomfort mainly occurs on the uvula or the tonsils. When I inhale dust, tickling occurs on the throat. This discomfort has also caused me to stop eating tomatoe sauce, spicies and pepper because I feel it worsens if I eat them. However, last Sunday I ate salted popcorn and I've had a tickle in my throat as well. Usually I do not get fever with these discomforts.

Avatar n tn Stay away from wet laundry and paint solvents. And, sadly to say kittens and fur bearing animals. Goldfish are O.K. A tiny exposure of mold can cause a suceptible person to wheeze all day long. So keep your bathroom well aired and if you have mold have mom or dad clean it up. Don't do this yourself.. The best way is to spray a solution of chlorix bleach, perhaps 5 percent. But this is VERY toxic.
Avatar m tn What cleaner did you use ? Does this cleaner have ammonia as one of it's ingredients ? Is this cleaner you use a liquid cleaner or something like Ajax or Comet in powdered form ? Also the fact your vision became blurry, your eyes were hurt and your skin was itching.

Avatar f tn Lactulose is also used to reduce the amount of ammonia in the blood of patients with liver disease. It works by drawing ammonia from the blood into the colon where it is removed from the body. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. That would be entirely irresponsible of your doctor to not tell you if you have HE. Did you not ask why your were taking lactulose?
