1475202 tn?1536270977 Also a couple of days ago due to my ammonia level being high (68) I took a zinc sulfate 220mg prescibed by my specialist to help with the ammonia. In less than a hour I was experiencing the worst pain I ever had. It was in my entire abdominal area and all the way across my lower back. Finally I tried a warm bath and it took the pain away. My specialist even called in some pain pills for me called Dicyclomine 20mg. which also helped relieve the pain.
Avatar n tn can also be attributed (in some cases) to zinc deficiency...and that they are starting to give zinc supplemenation, in addition to lactulose. Interesting stuff. Funny thing is that he told me I should transfer on over to the liver transplant center. Anyway, best of luck to you, bro. Hope this helps. If nothing else, it is something to discuss with your doctor. Maybe you should consider seeing a hepatologist...just a thought.
Avatar f tn For me my patm start when I was around 15 Going through puberty, I had been on anti depressions at the time. I then started to notice people begin to sniff, couf and rub there noses alot and I knew it was me.And had lasted for mouths and still going strong.
Avatar m tn Ammonia and zinc levels are measured from blood samples. They must be asked for. They are not common blood test that are performed routinely. Ammonia is listed as Ammonia on my blood tests. The normal range is 7-35 UMOL/L. Since you have some blood work you may want to look at his Platelet count, INR, Bilirubin, and Creatinine. This can help give you an idea of your husband's liver ability to function. NOTE: Ammonia levels don't always correlate with HE. Or the Grade of HE.
Avatar f tn Zinc is a mineral and as such is water soluable (your body takes what it needs and excretes the rest), and it is also good for your baby, so if you're not feeling well, go ahead and use those lozenges. Hope you feel better soon.

Avatar n tn as I read about the study reported in the British Journal of Dermatology about using oral zinc for recalcitrant warts. but my doctor told me no that hes never heard of that and too much zinc is dangerous..the clinical trial they used up to 600mg of zinc a day..but Fourteen of the 23 zinc-treated patients had complete remission of their warts after one month of treatment. Still hepc free. just started xfaxin for ammonia levels and hoping it helps. Im actually minimizing my health problems, because I know that there are many of you in worse shape then me. Avatar m tn My liver disease also caused my serum sodium level to drop off (a condition known as Hyponatremia) and a low sodium level can produce a dementia similar to high ammonia levels but is more difficult to treat (at least in my experience).
Avatar f tn I have undergone several tests as per my health checkup, and Physician has confirmed nothing seriously wrong, and advised me not to worry and continue to remain sober However, because of my minor symptoms and the ammonia level, and information on the web worries me for encephalopathy.Could you help me in: -If Encephalopathy is suspected, then also suspect is associated cirrhosis, and portal hypertension? But USG says No portal hypertension. -What could be the reason of high ammonia?
1008841 tn?1293598960 that is to say, some patients who have hepatic encephalopathy (HE, or confusion due to liver dysfunction) do not have elevated ammonia levels, and sometimes ammonia levels can be elevated without apparent HE -- docs usually use the guidelines Hector provided above to diagnose HE as opposed to just declaring it based on ammonia levels. Avatar n tn But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty. And of course he does sleep alot.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar f tn The first time they found the problem he lost 30 pounds and it went away well he has since gained that back and a little more and the fatty liver popped back up so now he has to go on a diet again although he does not drink the dr told him not to drink at all it could be very harmful because of the state his liver is in now.
Avatar f tn I copied and pasted this info from WebMD. IUn used "urine and ammonia" in the search field. Within the article was a subsection dealing with smell. Here it is. I hope it helps: Odor Changes Urine normally doesn't have a very strong smell. If you get a whiff of something particularly pungent, you could have an infection or urinary stones, which can create an ammonia-like odor. Diabetics might notice that their urine smells sweet, because of excess sugar.
Avatar m tn If you have decompensated cirrhosis, with elevated ammonia levels and hepatic encephalopathy I have see many patients say they have been prescribed Lactulose http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682338.html But you definitely need to have this conversation with your liver specialist .
12757438 tn?1433673730 I agreed, however now Belle’s health keeps yo-yoing back and forth. She was fine and tolerated some water and a few bites to eat and then the next time I talked to them she had peed bright orange was turning yellow and needed a blood transfusion. She is in the middle of her 80 ml. blood transfusion right now. They promised me she did not seem to be in pain and that other than the discoloration and declined labs she seems to be okay.
Avatar m tn ve found that excessive zinc levels can deplete copper levels, causing neuropathy, heaviness and weakness in the extremities, and stabbing, itching and heat sensations in hands and feet. I have all of these symptoms and more. Is there anyone else out there who is experiencing this same thing?
Avatar m tn Note that many zinc products also contain another metal called cadmium. This is because zinc and cadmium are chemically similar and often occur together in nature. Exposure to high levels of cadmium over a long time can lead to kidney failure. The concentration of cadmium in zinc-containing supplements can vary as much as 37-fold. Look for zinc-gluconate products. Zinc gluconate consistently contains the lowest cadmium levels.
Avatar n tn I smell ammonia. No one else can smell it. This happens off and on and in many different locations. I have read that this happens to people after a weight training session but I don't work out. It has happened when I was just sitting reading a book. I have seen my GP secondary to ill feeling for a year. The only abnormal labs are slightly elevated sed rate and slightly elevated WBC. I have muscle pain and weakness and extreme fatigue. My Doctor says he has no idea what is wrong with me.
1323278 tn?1298122488 Too much copper can cause neurological damage...and death! On the other hand, if you are healthy and take too much zinc, you will have copper deficiency - which is also not good! A great zinc source is Gluzin - zinc gluconate. Gluzin is fast adsorbing and less irritable to your stomach i.e. nausea and possible vomiting at high dose. If you do not have WD, it is recommended that you NOT take it on an empty stomach. Gluzin comes in two dosage form, 25 mg and 50 mg.
190885 tn?1333025891 Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status. High ammonia levels can also be caused by... *Reye syndrome. *Heart failure. *Kidney failure. *Severe bleeding from the stomach or intestines. Good luck!
