Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia and paint

ammonia

Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn There is more than one variety, and a specialist is needed to determine the specific type. Generally ammonia will destroy this kind of mold. I know people recommend other liquids, but ammonia is the way to go. Before using the ammonia the room should be "dewatered" with use of one of more dehumidifiers. These molds like moist places.
Avatar f tn This is a very debated topic, technically yes it is safe as long as you use ammonia free and have good venting, I would say get it done professional...
598816 tn?1219542566 org/wiki/Volatile_organic_compounds There are synthetic VOCs as well, which are commonly used in paint and some cleaners. Paint is a real biggie. I have asthma and migraines, and paint can set off an attack of either. There is a low or no VOC paint available now, in several brands. There is still some smell, but the smell is much less, lingers a lot less, and doesn't usually set off asthma/migraines if you have the room ventilated. I also read VOC is also in some dry cleaning solvents.
Avatar f tn t turn the way you wanted or hoped also you can paint your nails and cut your hair...... i have acrylic nails and never have once had a problem!!! Don't believe everything you hear i hope that helped!

Avatar m tn Any chance you could get her into a detox center? Alcohol turns into compounds like paint thinner and finger nail polish remover in the body. A healthy liver can detox or neutralize some alcohol, and sick liver cannot...if she keeps it up she'll be gone soon, if she got help she could cure and live another 40 years....you can commit a loved one to get them into detox. Call your local detox center and they will tell you how to go about this. You don't need insurance to get detoxed. mb.
1694467 tn?1306349372 If you do it yourself, keep all windows open, take abreath and hold it, and go in and swab an area three feet by three feet. Then leave immediately and release your breath outside. Come back an hour later and do another area. Even so, the fumes may cause irritation. This is the best way to remove black mold from a bathroom, using ammonia. In the case of black mold, do three square feet before leaving for work every morning. By evening the fumes will be gone, as well as the mold.
619345 tn?1310341421 And please whatever you do do NOT get a Brazilian Hair Straightening - they contain FORMALDEHYDE .... I work at one of the biggest beauty biz companies in the world and my boss is the Chairman of the Professional Beauty Association. He champions against this stuff CONSTANTLY yet people go out and pay $600 for someone to poison them. Every time thereafter you blow dry your hair particules of the formaldehyde will get into the air and into your lungs. THEY ARE CARCINOGENS and cause cancer.
Avatar m tn What can cause a ammonia smell in sweat and colon? and raw skin lines on each side of the scrotum between the inner thighs and pus bumps.
945369 tn?1320829437 thanks a lot everyone.. the paint smell is not very overwhelming.. its only the smell of freshly dried paint.. and the paint used is the household paint, the one used for regular house walls. I just called my doctor to be on the safer side, and he says its nothing to worry! :) thanks again, I am just trying to be cautious of anything that may harm my baby.. its a relief to know that bit of paint smell is ok :) love all the support I get here!
Avatar m tn What can cause a ammonia smell in sweat and Colin? the girl had the same smell.
Avatar m tn An autoshop about 30 feet behind my apartment, and at my front door and if I leave it open spray paint fumes will come in, and these fumes linger outside my front door. They spray seemingly every damn day. There is also a freeway about 80 feet away as well. So the air quality here is shifty. 2. Black mold, small patches can be seen between the wood paneling on the ceiling, and in the cracks in the bathroom. 3.
Avatar n tn Stay away from wet laundry and paint solvents. And, sadly to say kittens and fur bearing animals. Goldfish are O.K. A tiny exposure of mold can cause a suceptible person to wheeze all day long. So keep your bathroom well aired and if you have mold have mom or dad clean it up. Don't do this yourself.. The best way is to spray a solution of chlorix bleach, perhaps 5 percent. But this is VERY toxic.
Avatar m tn My liver disease also caused my serum sodium level to drop off (a condition known as Hyponatremia) and a low sodium level can produce a dementia similar to high ammonia levels but is more difficult to treat (at least in my experience).
1839630 tn?1346513783 we are decorating the nursery this weekend and they didn't have an low VOC paint, the guy at lowes assured us as long as i wasn't painting it was fine and my husband is doing it so we went ahead and got it. My question is how long do the fumes hang around? Also if i can't actually smell the paint im not inhaling fumes right? they aren't like lingering throughout the entire house are they?
Avatar f tn Lol if you get "prego-proof paint" its non-latex paint and its safe. Go to home depot or lowes. Tell them youre pregnant and want the paint you can use while pregnant with no fumes. They will get it.
Avatar f tn No it not safe to paint while pregnant unless you buy that 20 dollar mask and vent the room out. And arent in the room for a long time.
Avatar f tn I have undergone several tests as per my health checkup, and Physician has confirmed nothing seriously wrong, and advised me not to worry and continue to remain sober However, because of my minor symptoms and the ammonia level, and information on the web worries me for encephalopathy.Could you help me in: -If Encephalopathy is suspected, then also suspect is associated cirrhosis, and portal hypertension? But USG says No portal hypertension. -What could be the reason of high ammonia?
Avatar f tn Thank you <3
Avatar f tn 6 weeks. My company is going too paint there office. Is out safe for me to be in the store or should i take a couple days of!?
1008841 tn?1293598960 that is to say, some patients who have hepatic encephalopathy (HE, or confusion due to liver dysfunction) do not have elevated ammonia levels, and sometimes ammonia levels can be elevated without apparent HE -- docs usually use the guidelines Hector provided above to diagnose HE as opposed to just declaring it based on ammonia levels. Flowerchild: you can calculate your own MELD score if you have a copy of your lab reports from bloodwork by using this site: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar n tn But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty. And of course he does sleep alot.
Avatar f tn The first time they found the problem he lost 30 pounds and it went away well he has since gained that back and a little more and the fatty liver popped back up so now he has to go on a diet again although he does not drink the dr told him not to drink at all it could be very harmful because of the state his liver is in now.
Avatar f tn I copied and pasted this info from WebMD. IUn used "urine and ammonia" in the search field. Within the article was a subsection dealing with smell. Here it is. I hope it helps: Odor Changes Urine normally doesn't have a very strong smell. If you get a whiff of something particularly pungent, you could have an infection or urinary stones, which can create an ammonia-like odor. Diabetics might notice that their urine smells sweet, because of excess sugar.
Avatar m tn If you have decompensated cirrhosis, with elevated ammonia levels and hepatic encephalopathy I have see many patients say they have been prescribed Lactulose http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682338.html But you definitely need to have this conversation with your liver specialist .
