Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia and paint

ammonia

Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar f tn VOC emissions are usually due to the presence of chemicals in the paint such as the color pigments and compounds that improve durability of the paint and also enable the paint to be spread more easily. The "new-paint smell" can be related to the continued off-gassing of VOCs after the paint “dries.
Avatar n tn Yes you can dye your hair.
Avatar m tn My lungs just hurt. Went to my natural path and he told me that there was stress to my liver, lungs, kidneys and heart. He gave me some things and said it should clear out in a few weeks. Things gradually got better but before my next scheduled visit I was getting my tires serviced and they ruptured my gas line and I was exposed to that for about 20 minutes.
619345 tn?1310345021 Since heppers are even supposed to stay away from paint fumes and gasoline and the like.......well I'd say it's especially bad for us. Just an FYI - I saw it on the news again the other night and couldn't believe it is still legal to be sold / done in the USA.
Avatar m tn Any chance you could get her into a detox center? Alcohol turns into compounds like paint thinner and finger nail polish remover in the body. A healthy liver can detox or neutralize some alcohol, and sick liver cannot...if she keeps it up she'll be gone soon, if she got help she could cure and live another 40 years....you can commit a loved one to get them into detox. Call your local detox center and they will tell you how to go about this. You don't need insurance to get detoxed. mb.
Avatar n tn There is more than one variety, and a specialist is needed to determine the specific type. Generally ammonia will destroy this kind of mold. I know people recommend other liquids, but ammonia is the way to go. Before using the ammonia the room should be "dewatered" with use of one of more dehumidifiers. These molds like moist places.
Avatar n tn I'm SO sorry you are feeling so bad. I do have to agree with Kalio, because I also feel that way every day. The past 2 days were worse due to an extra virus I had but I'm feeling better today. That doesn't mean I feel "good" tho. I have vertigo quite often. In fact it makes me sick if I walk across the room with my reading glasses on..dizzy & lightheaded. Today in work I tried cleaning some paint spots off the floor and nearly passed out just crouching down & standing up alot.
Avatar f tn This is a very debated topic, technically yes it is safe as long as you use ammonia free and have good venting, I would say get it done professional...
Avatar f tn I personally still dye my hair i have asked my midwife and hairdressers about it and they all saw asking as you are in a well ventilated area it is okay the only thing is they say while your pregnant sometimes the dye won't turn the way you wanted or hoped also you can paint your nails and cut your hair...... i have acrylic nails and never have once had a problem!!! Don't believe everything you hear i hope that helped!
5002615 tn?1366017609 When i was pregnant with my first child i craved pine sol, bleach, ammonia, paint thinner, permanent markers the one thats fat and silver with the black top....and get this the doctor told me that i could sniff it just not drink it. SMH i was cleaning the house every chance i got. I also bought one of those dollar spray bottles and poured pine sol in it and sprayed my room like a air freshener.
Avatar m tn Does not really matter if Im right or not, GIVE YOURSELF A GOOD HAIR COLORING ALSO BODY AND PUBIC AREA, AND LEAVE COLORING MORE TIME THAN IT SAYS. It has ammonia and peroxide and hair coloring (I looked it up) actually penetrates the hair. OUR HAIR IS INFECTED. That is where PATM lives and releases from. Please all need to get a $20 USB scope and see what I mean, but for now, this will do it. PLEASE POST BACK.
598816 tn?1219546166 org/wiki/Volatile_organic_compounds There are synthetic VOCs as well, which are commonly used in paint and some cleaners. Paint is a real biggie. I have asthma and migraines, and paint can set off an attack of either. There is a low or no VOC paint available now, in several brands. There is still some smell, but the smell is much less, lingers a lot less, and doesn't usually set off asthma/migraines if you have the room ventilated. I also read VOC is also in some dry cleaning solvents.
1694467 tn?1306352972 If you do it yourself, keep all windows open, take abreath and hold it, and go in and swab an area three feet by three feet. Then leave immediately and release your breath outside. Come back an hour later and do another area. Even so, the fumes may cause irritation. This is the best way to remove black mold from a bathroom, using ammonia. In the case of black mold, do three square feet before leaving for work every morning. By evening the fumes will be gone, as well as the mold.
3060903 tn?1398568723 The most efficient way, if we have not succeeding in cleaning, as we mentioned in the beginning, with water and detergent or ammonia or bleach, is a solution of hydrogenperoxide and some drops of ammoniaand let it act. Paint and inks:These spots are more complicated to deal with. Both are cleaned with solvents or removers of layers of paint: there are several types, the most common are methylene chloride or mineral alcohol. Take care with methylene chloride, it is dangerous.

Avatar f tn severe abdominal and feet/ankle/let swelling, variceal bleeding, bacterial infections, frequent mental impairment including confusion, loss of memory, slurred speech and moody/difficult personality (I also think he doesn’t take his medicine as he should due to his memory, etc.) Bruises easily Tired, weak and doesn’t sleep well To complicate his health problems depression has lead to him beginning to binge drink and, obviously, further deteriorating his health issues.
419309 tn?1326506891 He's sleeping more than ever, and though he says he's comfortable, he's not awake for more than 10 minutes at a time, and running and breaking fevers on and off. In the past if he wasn't experiencing pain he would be up and about, doing something or other, but this is different. He's been distant, not eating, not asking for anything, not taking his meds, refusing phone calls, just saying that he wants to rest. Trying my best to just abide by his wishes.
Avatar n tn Stay away from wet laundry and paint solvents. And, sadly to say kittens and fur bearing animals. Goldfish are O.K. A tiny exposure of mold can cause a suceptible person to wheeze all day long. So keep your bathroom well aired and if you have mold have mom or dad clean it up. Don't do this yourself.. The best way is to spray a solution of chlorix bleach, perhaps 5 percent. But this is VERY toxic.
Avatar n tn Sometimes when I eat or drink certain foods, I get this strange, pungent taste. Kind of like horseradish, cilantro and ammonia mixed together. Has happened while eating: salad, cole slaw, clam chowder, chocolate and enchiladas. (Not every time, though). Once while drinking strong coffee and eating a scone. The strange smell problem I've noticed while urinating, and occasionally taste it in my mouth. Like roast beef gravy and ashes...yuck!
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Avatar m tn An autoshop about 30 feet behind my apartment, and at my front door and if I leave it open spray paint fumes will come in, and these fumes linger outside my front door. They spray seemingly every damn day. There is also a freeway about 80 feet away as well. So the air quality here is shifty. 2. Black mold, small patches can be seen between the wood paneling on the ceiling, and in the cracks in the bathroom. 3.
Avatar n tn Ammonia is the most common of these, although other substances can also build up. Ammonia is toxic to the brain and central nervous system, and too much ammonia in the blood can lead to impaired brain function, including changes in behavior and consciousness. There are successful treatments for HE, so anyone with these symptoms needs to be under medical care.
406107 tn?1219016200 Cross your fingers and wish me luck. I'm having another BT tomorrow to check Ammonia levels in my blood,(was 26 or 27 last mo.) The bruises have just started to fade from the last poking around to start the IV for my 3rd EGD, (Esophageal dilitation), they stick a tube down your throat, (with a camera and baloon on the end), find the narrow place, and blow up the baloon, to widen the esophagus. RE; am I going to participate, I'll let ya know on the 28th.
Avatar m tn Predominantly toluene.
2030686 tn?1351692148 I have a friend who does have epilepsy and did treatment and treated her epilepsy at the same time. If I were you I would try to do some searches on this subject. Have you treated before?
Avatar f tn I am a color specialist and yes you can color your hair. But if your really worried about it then there is ammonia free color which is semi permanent and it only lasts 4-6 weeks but that's what both my older sisters used during pregnancy Cuz they were worried as well. But it is ok. . I even colored a pregnant doctors hair and she even said it was ok.
