Avatar m tn My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet. 1. Why should I agree to experiment with reducing my primary blood pressure medication and what are the risks? His response was "let's see what happens". 2. How long should it take before I see changes (if any) in typical blood pressure readings?
Avatar n tn Are you aware about the combination Valsartan and Amlodipine to treat hypertension in high risk patients? How its is better than Telmisarton and Amlodipine combination?
Avatar f tn I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
Avatar m tn About me: I'm 32 years old, male and have had mild Vertigo symptoms for 9 months now. The symptoms of feeling like I just got off a boat are constant and happen 80% of the day, all day every day. I have never fallen over from it but it does greatly affect my quality of life. About my medical past: Had Bells Palsy in April 2014 on my left side of my face (MRI, CT, Xrays done to make sure it wasn't a stroke), cleared up by June/July 2014. Vertigo like symptoms started in August 2014..
Avatar n tn Hi. I have had high blood pressure for years. Like really high -- 190+over 90 very often. So I'm working on taking medication but I have a question about amlodipine. I start with Lisinopril 40mg, but my doctor added amlodipine. It helps but my ankles and legs swell up really bad. Thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. thanks.
Avatar m tn I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
20003202 tn?1488258062 Lisinopril 10 mg. (cough), Valsartan 160 mg. (stopped working), Medoprolol 25 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg. (stopped working), now just Amlodipine 10 mg. Since taking the Amlodipine 10 mg. for about a week, my blood pressure keeps going higher and higher. Today readings were between 160/90 - 165/125. Also, my lower legs are sore, I have dizziness and feel light-headed, and are extremely lethargic. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?
Avatar m tn My medication is Diovan 160mg and 12.5 mg valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. And yes this was a typo should read 121/71 This whole thing drive me crazy---- blood pressure keeps going down as I further into the squash game --- then I get dizzy.......
Avatar m tn Actually, is Diovan belongs to a class of blood pressure medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It is a combination of Valsartan and the same diuretic as Hyzaar. It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.
Avatar f tn I was put on BP medication in January 2012. I started off with Amlodipine and Lisinopril and the Lisinopril darned near killed me. The prescribing doctor WOULD NOT take me off it so I just stopped taking it and made an appointment with another doctor. I have been taking 12.5 mg of Metoprolol and 10 mg Amlodipine for about 3 months. I have COPD and something was aggravating my breathing problems. I went to the doctor yesterday and he took me off the Metoprolol and put me on 100 mg of Losartan.
1355431 tn?1369975306 Im really worried about my husband he is 35 years old and he is on 4 different blood pressure meds. He is on Lisinopril 10mg , Atenolol 50mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg and Amlodipine 10 mg. Even with all theese meds his blood pressure is still way to high! It seems every doctor visit they add more meds. Ok I guess my question is, is it nessasary to be on 4 different blood pressure meds and is it safe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn You could also try various calcium channel blockers such as Amlodipine (norvasc). Make sure to quit smoking and take care of your cholesterol. Start with a heathy diet and exercise and if that doesn't work start taking a statin.
Avatar f tn Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum but i can't anything in the more general field of endocrinology. I was diagnosed with very high bp and tremor at the age of 19--bmi was about 21.5. Was given the full battery of tests (pheochromocytoma, cushings, conn's, thyroid, adrenal hyperplasia) but docs couldn't figure out why. They finally treated it as essential htn and essential tremor but said we'll keep an open mind.
Avatar n tn -( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril. Called the dr, he told me to stop the valsartan, don't take anything for 2 days and then back on the benazepril and see him next week.
459164 tn?1206363843 Hi, there is no such information which conclusively states that valsartan may cause cellulitis or increase its intensity or duration. Have you taken valsartan and also have a concurrent skin infection? If yes, have you talked to your doctor about it and taken any medication for it? Please keep us posted and let us know if you have any other queries.
Avatar n tn I've taken Valsartan since 2010 successfully. It controls my BP well.
Avatar m tn No, I am not on statins. My medicines are for BP (amlodipine, metaprolol, sprionolactone, valsartan) and niacine (for low HDL), and ASA.

Avatar n tn I was just prescribed amlodipine for my gastritis how ever I can't seem to find any info about it being helpful for that. All the info I have found is about blood pressure. Is this a common prescription? Should I be concerned if I already have low blood pressure?
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar m tn I was on Losartan 50mg which was working fairly well then the nephrologist suggested I switch to Amlodipine 2.5 mg. which he says is better for creatinine levels. I had been taking Amlodipine for a few weeks and BP rose. Doctor has increased to 5 mg. Not sure how long it will take to reduce BP. Has anyone any experience with Amlodipine? How is it? Any adverse side effects?
