Amlodipine benazepril lotrel

Common Questions and Answers about Amlodipine benazepril lotrel

lotensin

Avatar m tn I am not sure if the amlodipine portion of the lotrel is the best drug for you now. I would recommend an ace inhibitor (the second part of lotrel) combined with a beta blocker.
Avatar m tn she is taking benazapril and amlodipine bid and plavix once at nite her last she also gets ranitidine every 12 hours her latest bloodwork had her bun at 48 and creatine at 2.5 , we have her on a senior diet with low protien .
Avatar f tn I was disqualified from a job process due to this medical condition called left ventricular hypertrophy. I take benazepril & amlodipine besylate for high blood pressure, and for migraines atenolol. I didn't know they were also used for heart problems. Is this condition treatable or cureable?
Avatar m tn The doctor still saw the need to put me on another medication, so now im taking Benazepril and Amlodipine. And at times checking my BP myself it has been down to like 127/80. Im only 24 and thats what worries me. I have a family history of High Blood Pressue big time. My Grandad and Dad both had it. My Dads was so high, at the time they couldnt even maintain it. Im also overweight. During my first visit to the doc I weighed about 250 at 6 feet tall.
Avatar m tn I have a 3.5 year old yellow lab that was recently limping, so she was taken to the vet and they did blood work and the blood work suggested Kidney Failure. Her creatine level was 4.1 and BUN/UREA 64 mg/dl. She spent 2 days in the ER getting fluids and medication. She's on amlodipine Besylate, Maropitant, prednisolone, doxycycline. She has struggled to eat, been very tired and isn't herself at all. Its been 4 days since she came home from the ER and she's slowly gotten worse.
Avatar f tn For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me from Lotrel to Valturna for my high blood pressure, however, it's not working for me. In fact my BP went from 138/88 to 160/100 while taking Valturna. I asked my doctor to add HCT, however, because I developed a rash from taking a sulfa antiobiotic 10 years ago, he doesn't want to take the chance. So he put me back on Lotrel along with the Valturna. He said as my BP comes down, he'll adjust the meds.
Avatar f tn Hello, I've been taking Lotrel 5/20 for the past 5 years to control my hypertension. However, based on my latest blood pressure readings, I think I may need a stronger dose. My question is...how does the doctor determine which would be more effective for me: increasing my dose to 5/40 or increasing it to 10/20? Is there a rule of thumb to determine which of the meds in Lotrel should be increased? I thank you for your assistance.
Avatar m tn I take a diuretic and lotrel. Lotrel is a combination of 2 meds for blood pressure. One is an ace inhibitor that is supposed to help with left ventricular hypertrophy. I think you are right about the beta blocker. They might improve the LVH. I will ask the Dr. I am sorry I took so long to respond.
Avatar m tn A week ago I had an episode of high blood pressure (180/110) and palpitations. I called my doctor the next day and he prescribed me Lotrel (5/20mg). My BP came down to ~120/90. I stopped taking the Lotrel after the first day, BP shot up to 170/122, went to emergency. Saw my doctor yesterday, he checked blood and urine work (all clean), did EKG and said I have a fast heart rate (~90-95bpm) and hypertension. He prescribed me Coreg CR 80mg. Is the Coreg CR necessary?
Avatar n tn I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed amlodipine for my gastritis how ever I can't seem to find any info about it being helpful for that. All the info I have found is about blood pressure. Is this a common prescription? Should I be concerned if I already have low blood pressure?
Avatar f tn It really depends on why your vet put her on Benazepril? Is it for diagnosed high blood pressure - or is it to help the kidneys function better through increased blood flow? Benazepril is a good drug for either, but if it is merely to help the kidneys (in other words, if your dog does not already have high blood pressure), then extreme caution is needed.
Avatar n tn I have taken Lotrel 5/20 for several years. I have also taken Prilosec OTC each day (directed by gastroenterologist) for 3 years ( +/-) I have had strange feelings in the bottom of my feet for about the same time that I have taken Lotrel. Was told it was from Morton's Neuromas. For the last 2-3 years my lower legs have felt "like tree stumps" and are getting progressively worse. I have fallen 3 times in the last two months because my left foot was not where I thought it was.
Avatar m tn I was on Losartan 50mg which was working fairly well then the nephrologist suggested I switch to Amlodipine 2.5 mg. which he says is better for creatinine levels. I had been taking Amlodipine for a few weeks and BP rose. Doctor has increased to 5 mg. Not sure how long it will take to reduce BP. Has anyone any experience with Amlodipine? How is it? Any adverse side effects?
Avatar m tn I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
Avatar f tn I forgot to tell you my blood pressure meds. I've been taking Lotrel 5/20 for years (Amlodipine 5/Benazepril 20) and within the last year added 25 mg Spironolactone (potassium sparing diuretic). Also around the same time I started the "low carb" diet, I started taking 500 mg of SloNiacin, which I know can cause an increase in glucose. However, I am taking a relatively low dose. If this is being caused by my meds, there's really nothing I can do, correct?
Avatar m tn Blacking out and dizziness can be caused by a too low blood pressure or heart rate, or both. You say you are on BP medication, what is you resting BP? If it is real low, not likely given you normally have high BP, the medication may be too strong a dose or type. BP medication may also lower you pulse. I have had problems in the past adjusting to high dose beta blocker, e.g., 100 mg of Metoprolol twice a day. In the beginning by BP would go down in the range of 80/65, best I can recall.
Avatar n tn Are you aware about the combination Valsartan and Amlodipine to treat hypertension in high risk patients? How its is better than Telmisarton and Amlodipine combination?
Avatar f tn They started me on losartan 50 mg and amlodipine 5mg. And for some reason it seams like it is not going down, so I went to the ER and they increased my amlodipine to 10mg and adv me to contact my primary dr that following week. Called the dr that next week and he increased my losartan to 100 mg and amlodipine to 10 mg, 1 each per day. However it seems like my bp is still hanging out around the upper 180's.
